in Being Grown Up Isn’t Half As Fun As Growing Up on Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates
You nailed it. Growing up is an ongoing process. I hope that I never stop growing, because when we stop growing, what are we doing exactly? I don't ever want to leave never-never-land, and while we may add more responsibility and 'structure' to our lives as we progress in life, it all balances out. If we're smart, if we play our cards right, we can be 'young again' in our old age.

As children, we are care-free, we get to play, take naps, do what we want (for the most part). Then we get older - we work, but it's important to still have that balance - you can either separate the two, work hard, play hard in your spare time, or, in my opinion, you should do everything you can to integrate the two - LOVE what you do during the week - because it occupies a huge chunk of your life.

Then, when we get older and retire, we can relax again; we can play and take naps. Is it really much different from being a kid? Our best years are ahead of us - sure, we had some good times in the past, but we're going to have some great times in the future.

Insightful post Sam - really enjoyed it!

in Blogging Is Like Therapy, Without The Couch on Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates
Great post Sam. There is no clear dividing line (at least for me) between the digital and the real world. It's all integrated - but the digital world, at least in my current situation, is my outlet - it's my release, it's where I can be creative, say what's on my mind, and network with people who share similar passions and ideas. Every time I post a blog I encourage discussion, I want that interaction - I don't need everyone to agree with me, but I want people to walk away having actually thought about something I said - I want to form that connection with people.

I try not to validate myself based on page views, comments, and numbers (as hard as that is at times). Rather, I write with the intent of saying what's on my mind, while inspiring, educating, or entertaining my audience. There's nothing better than having a discussion spark from some emotion I felt and decided to write down on paper. It is one of the best therapies out there!

The best way to network is to reach out. Great advice. It's little things like this that can really make a difference.

It's pop music. There are only so many melodies to go around. Relax. Coldplay's song is one of the most exquisite things I've heard in a while. Let it be.

in So, what’s the point of all of those social networking sites anyway? on Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates
As Jamie said, social networking is pretty amazing, in many different ways, as both personal and professional tools.

Facebook is a much more personal tool for me personally; I primarily use it to keep up with old friends and, of course, see who the latest person getting married is.

I recently jumped on the Twitter bandwagon; I'll admit I was reluctant for a long time because it appeared to be a glorified Facebook status update. Little did I know it is being used as a valuable networking tool and business tool. There are companies that use the power of social networking as an advertising and marketing tool - and the ability to connect with consumers is pretty incredible.

Other social networking communities such as 20SB and Brazen are great for building one's own personal network, and they are a great educational tool. I blog to educate, inspire, or otherwise entertain others, and I have that reciprocated to me through my online communities.

Great post and good thoughts. Social networking tools will only continue to mature and develop. Come check out my blog sometime: http://www.lifewithoutpants.com</br>

in Bad Move Frontier Airlines, Sean Menke on Andrew Hyde
Andrew, I have had a similar experience 2X at the PDX airport. The Frontier team there was very apologetic and suggested that I write a letter and/or email. I did both, but never heard back from Frontier. IT makes absolutely no sense to me. Especially w/ Southwest breathing down their necks. Frontier should really think about how they make there money. Business travelers are the life blood of any airline and screwing w/ them by not allowing them to fly standbye makes absolutely no sense. The one ray of hope b/c sometimes Frontier is just the only one w/ a convenient time is that I was told that sometime in the next month or two they will start allowing Ascent members to fly standbye again.

in A Working Knowledge of Wikipedia on Andrew McAfee's Blog
having seen that article(enterprise 2.0) in its infancy i too believe that it was a bit incoherent and vague, therefore a call for revision was in order rather than a call for deletion as the case rightly indicates that a topic having half a million hits should be covered on wikipedia. I guess the people worked on the principles of a 'weak delete' to solve the problem because the article is in a better shape now with a somewhat concise defination.

in THE FOX IS WRONG! (Obama version) on FOX Attacks!
There is no media in the US, only a series of PR firms that sell the official story delivered by the agents of power. Fox, NBC, and others are all part of the same propaganda machine.

in Howard Dean On The State of the Campaign on Jack and Jill Politics
I think Dean landed clearly on the side of following the rules laid out beforehand, and not favoring a specious argument by HRC and others about "enfranchising" people who didn't (at least in Michigan) have a choice.

I am an Obama supporter. Have some hope. I think Obama can pull this out.

in Derrick Ashong’s Powerful EMOTIONAL Response To His Obama Interview (video) on Jack and Jill Politics
Dear Anon,

I think Obama is pretty centrist (that is, in the center of the American people) at least regarding the war, the economy, healthcare, and poverty. I wish in fact he were more to the left, but right now we just need to stop the bleeding.

Your fellow Illinoisean (as I like to say),

I thought the video was quite moving and compelling. Thank you.

And anyone (this means you, Anon. #2) who takes Leon Wieseltier's* opinion seriously was never going to vote for Obama anyway.

*He thought thought the invasion of Iraq was a grand idea (see Committee for the Liberation of Iraq) because of all their WMD's and Saddam's connection to al-Qaeda- and we should pay attention to his judgement?
