in how to stick to a decision on brip blap
Steve,
More than ever I hope you take this opportunity to go where you want to go, and more importantly need to go.
In my short life span and business career, the one thing I've learned most is the importance of freedom. Never let go of that. Never feel bogged down.
I wish you the best of luck, and of success, somehow I know you will never need to hear that though my friend. You have built your skills and so now, you are truly independent. For an economy may slash companies and take away peoples identities(Their jobs) it can never do it to you. Because you took the time to get the skills such as writing, auditing and what have you, that are truly mobile in nature. Wherever you go, the skill goes with you.
Again, wish you the best my friend. And we will have to hang. I am planning on making 50g in my multi-level marketing company this year. Made 600 in last two days, so that was pretty sweet. Going buy a motorhome and go traveling again, this time in style!
All the best to you!

in how to judge compensation on brip blap
I agree.
The work you do in the short time we're here, is us. It is our identity. We're known as the artist, the carpenter, the accountant and so on. That is how people truly remember us the easiest.
It is important than to seek a high-paying job in a field that disallows you to separate your identity from it. When that happens, you most likely have found the profession that resonates the deepest chord in you.
That is something to be congratulated on. Most go after the $$ signs thinking the right life will follow. What they fail to see is that the right life needs to happen first, and then $$ signs will often follow them anyway.
Good post as always Steve.
PS. It turns out, network marketing is my resonating chord. Ohhh now if I was not so lazy... lol

in a zero-sum worldview on brip blap
This is one of the wiser things I've seen you post good ol' Brip Blap!
I am in the process of putting material together for a website that talks about things like this. The more wealth one has, the more they have most likely benefitted humanity. Wealth is not created by a single hand, rather created by a wanting world. Fill a need, get paid, help the world, move on to the next need.
Solving problems and adding value is what it is all about. Truly makes me a lover of capitalism haha.

in have MBAs been devalued by the crisis? on brip blap
Degrees have an extrinisic meaning to them I believe. Though an MBA degree may become less wanted or desirable, it is only so to other people. The things it teaches you is what you should be using, not what others think of it.
And perhaps now instead of an MBA student focusing on the Wall Street dream, they'll focus on other sectors of what an MBA can do. Wall Street, though famous throughout the world, is still just one sector of business. There is so many things out there for the creative mindset, and where there is a will there is almost undeniably a solution waiting to be birthed.

Evil yet sleeps in the lurks of the human heart even as the light contests for it's soul. It is in us all but like mud in the bottom of a lake it stirs the most violently feat of influence. Spelling intended. By the way broke a frugal rule and bought an iPhone from whence this comment comes!

in does innovation require desperation? on brip blap
It's not desperation as much as desire. Which, desperation can be a huge motivator for harvesting desire!
I think the best way of motivation is burning the bridge. By burning all methods of return, there is only forward. You must proceed into the daunting, haunting forests of whatever your endeavor may be.
Like Napoleon Hill says, one must become full of a burning desire.
Man, that book is so good. I still cannot believe it.

Haha I am sorry to hear this Steve! Corporations are a weird mix. At Halliburton when I worked in the office it seems nothing would ever be accomplished. I'd do one thing to have to undo it a few hours later which was undone later which by next week I was fixing the things that had been done that needed to be undone so we could do the thing that was the same thing to it again.
Overall, pretty exhaustingly pointless.
I am honored to be on your linkings! Never thought I'd get there : )
Hope all is well my friend!

Hey Steve
You know since you like writing, maybe you should also look into freelance writing commercially? You can use your blog here as part of your portfolio. When I get done with my trip along with Visalus I'm starting Elfwords back up.
I love self-direct jobs. Perhaps tis why I have such a fascination with being a salesman.

in invest in what you know on brip blap
Though this may be sound advice Steve, I don't think it is.
Maybe it's from my personal growing up. My father is a real estate agent and he's often showed me statistics that 90% of all wealthy people got that way via real estate investments. Even Ray Croc that founder of Mcdonalds said his business was not selling hamburger, it was real estate.
Real estate does tie up a lot of money, but then again without debt there cannot be great gain (Unless you win the lottery or something along those lines).
If you're feeling uneasy about investing in the real estate game I suggest you take what knowledge you have now and buy a small apartment, or maybe a duplex and rent them out. See how you fare for a while and then move up from there.
All things being represented, I think having tried a bit of everything best suits the fuel to get up the road of wealth. Not saying diversifying your portfolio to the point of flimsy ridiculously small amounts invested in every little thing, but also saying that one should not always eat at one table primarily.
Haha long comment, sorry man!

in The Cambrian Explosion on brip blap
I like this idea. It goes well with how I describe my skill in fictional writing.
I often tell my friends that it is like a dam set on a slope holding back all these grains of sand. With each new skill or ability comes a new grain of sand. Eventually all the sand crushes through the dam cause it weighs so heavy, and it burts forth in one cataclysmic rush of revelation.
To me, that's how I seem to improve. I absorb all this information and nothing really happens, and then, BAM. It all hits. It all makes sense. The world is clear and I move on how I can delve deeper into literature or whatever task is at hand.
Speaking of this Cambrian explosion... I should look it up. Sounds interesting.

It's okay man, I know you're worrying about replying to my email/comments all the time. I understand, so stop worrying. As I am rather important, I know there is going to be some hair pulling no matter what, but I am just trying to be a motivational speaker here.
You know. A lot of hype with no substance.
Have you notice how my comments just always ramble off?
Man.

in 10 things to tell a graduating high school senior on brip blap
Brip Blap this article touched my heart.
I graduated high school last year (Almost exactly one year ago!)
I took college off because I was not ahead 90% of people with scholarships. Actually, I did quite horrible in high school, my grades barely floated above a D (Except in my college courses with literature, always a B+! lol)
Your advice hits home so much. And touches me even more, cause most of it, I have done or have planned to do. So, I'm honored we've come to the same conclusion you being my favorite blogger lol :P (Woo I'm smart!)
Keep on blogging Brip Blap, your nuggets of wisdom for my young age of 18 are motivational!
Speaking of motivation... I might slowly be becoming a motivational speaker... I really like the idea. You know, people like Jim Rohn or Zig Ziglar.
Off I go! (I am backpacking across America this May 27th! Landing in Seattle and going to the East Coastf or the first time ever! Any places of interest that are cool up in NY? Or in general?)
Sorry for the extreme longevity of the comment haha.

Dude. Wasting that water is way worse than the smell. Yeah it smells bad but look at our times. Water is considered a scarcity now.
Can you believe it? A planet almost SOLELY composed of water on its exterior, is now considered a scarcity. Water purifying jobs are going to boom in the next couple of decades at this rate.
Here I go! Jump the entrepreneurial opportunity bro!

in the gold rush of 2008 on brip blap
Yo Brip.
I disagree with this partially. Yes, gold is an abstract symbol from whence our abstract symbol was once based on. However, gold and silver are both good investments. Alas when people hear the term investment they think profit-grower, not so with gold.
With gold what you're doing is stabilizing your income. It's what you said. The American dollar and most other currencies today are based on faith alone and that is how the system works on their weird topsy turvy money religion. Alas, gold the faith is never shooked. They're the best church to subscribe to when it comes to times of currency paranoia (Such a flailing dollar before its new master the euro. Or canadian dollar even)
If you had bought gold your income would've stayed relatively the same and which you could've traded all that gold out for another currency such as the euro once it overpowered the dollar. Or if it did not overpower the dollar you still have tons of gold worth the same, which is exactly what the investment is for. Stabilizing the income, not growing it.
It's like life insurance, it's a shelter for your earnings, or a fail safe incase that special substance hits the fan.
My two cents!
Great post! And is that my golden drink in your picture? Oh the Aztecs would laugh now if they only could see...

in Can I tolerate my son’s religious education? on brip blap
Let him keep going souinds beneifically personally and economical to me. You might worry about his religion absorbtion but really, it's not a big deal as long as the parent is open-minded to the child. I grew up in a Mormon family but by the time I was 5 we had stopped going to church, throguh presumably, we all still were Mormon. My dad never made any forceful impression on believing in any religion or idealogy. In fact he made it a point for me to discover whjat I believe on my own.
Yes he would say he hoped I chose a form of Christianity cause that is what he primarily believed in, but ultimatly he realized you cannot force someone to be something that they are not. You can't force them to believe in viewpoints that are not theirs, least not forever.
The worse thing that could happen is your child becoming Catholic. Which, they're pretty cool cats at times (Jews are the coolest.) I'm suddenly feeling like I'm full of prejudice. OH NO.
lol Nah kidding kidding. But I seriously love Jewish ancient history.

Hey there Brip Blap
I think change can occur in a moment with people. All that it really takes is the mindset. Saying, "Okay. I'm going sit down (Or stand up in case of exercising?) and do this today. I am going to make this happen. I know I can and so I will succeed." It is in that discipline, that great and visionary things are achieved.
Thanks for the insightful comment on my site by the way. If you have time, could you hop over there and tell me if the tags are showing? I always see them in my preview... ohhh my techy uselessness... I want to hide those tags. They look so ugly lol.
Alright man, hope all is well!
