in Words of Wisdom From A Wise Bud on Alice Feiring
My take on it? The new generation doesn't want to read a 5000 word article. Us old school folks appreciate a well-written piece but today's generation is about the social media outlet and it's ability to give one's opinions in 140 characters or less. Fair? No. ADHD? Maybe. Retirement? Please don't go Alice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d49m6G9vOrI There's room for all – so adapt, conquer & prosper. Don't make me come find you and kick your butt. :) ~Pamela

couldn't agree with you more, enobytes. i think the wine blogger's conference is a great place to sort this out and given how passionate this community is, should also be fun and productive.
WineWonkette
That sounds like a great idea! It would make even more sense, to me, that the finalists were announced prior to the start of the 2010 conference, and that the winners be announced AT the 2010 Wine Blogger Conference.

Great post and comments!
Last year, we kicked around a lot of great ideas on how to modify and/or improve upon the wine blogger awards over at OWC, but I’m afraid not much activity happened after the lengthy discussion:
http://www.openwineconsortium.org/group/wineblo...
What about this – what if we have a Wine Blogger Award session at the 2009 Wine Bloggers Conference? We could get everyone in the same room to discuss improvements (e.g. adding categories), policies (e.g. 3 wins and you’re out), etc. etc. Everyone could come with their ideas, and we could have a moderator/facilitator to oversee the meeting and capture all the great ideas and then figure out next steps for implementing changes.
I know that Joel is usually open to suggesting session topics at this event, so I propose we ask Joel to support a session topic for said agenda. Heck, it might have to be a ½ day workshop! :)

Their site has a completely different look and feel than ours, but it's interesting that we share similar mottos and visions! Amazing! Our motto: Eat well, Drink well; Live well; promoting an exchange of ideas about food and wine that benefit professionals and enthusiasts alike... Is this where all of my "find competitor keywords" web stats are coming from? Seriously, best of luck to Eat, Drink, or Die.

LOL! I had not noticed that. However, for the record, I prefer to live well as opposed to dying. :)

Number X "Thou shall integrate a search mechanism on thy site". If users are forced to open a separate window to search on content from your blog, tis annoying! I won't name names, but several wine blogs don't incorporate a search mechanism. Shame on them!

Great top 10! I agree with Winehiker's #11 comment, "Thou shalt not require thy readers to log in to leave a comment.” Its an extra step most are not willing to take, so its always good to make it easy for users to comment.

in Good Wine for BBQ on Another Wine Blog
…and for those that are looking for inexpensive reds, how about a nice zinfandel (Cline Cellars under $10) with meats smothered in BBQ sauce. Or on a lighter note, a nice Cabernet Franc (Olga Raffault, a little more expensive at $20) or Pinot Noir (Lindemans under $10) with a grilled steak. Have a great holiday!

Thanks for the kind words! Since the Willamette Valley release, we’ve also completed a map for the New York Finger Lakes region, and our next map will focus on the Côte du Rhône region.
