Exactly. It lets you ignore Outlook's dated interface for many search and filtering tasks. It's extremely fast as well.

I wish I could manage email threads (conversations) rather than just view them. They need some right-click action as well. But I'm sure that's all in the works.

Thanks again for the tip, Josh.

Rod,
I just discovered it today so haven't fiddled with it much. However, I can see using this as an extremely lightweight information repository that I can port around however I like. For example, you can use it strictly off-line by keeping a copy on your USB drive. Or for a online/off-line solution, you can keep the "master" on a web-server but work off-line with the USB drive. Then synchronize when appropriate. No PHP or SQL to deal with. I'm sure there are ways to use with a group as well, but haven't looked into it.

I ran MediaWiki for a while and it was great but then I rebuilt my server and haven't set it up again. This seems like it will be a nice replacement considering I was using as suggested above.

Also, the interface is quite impressive upon initial examination. Especially considering everything is contained in a single html file (assuming you have Java already installed - who doesn't?).

PS.
Speaking of bleeding edge...have you seen this?

in Open Source Hardware for Engineers on SolidSmack
My question isn't about the open source nature of the software platform but the hardware platform and modules. Will the "community" have access to the "source code" of the hardware; meaning a documented design (i.e. schematics)? Can I (or better yet) a qualified electronic hardware designer propose design changes and or new modules? This would enable the hardware to grow with the open source communities needs/desires.

That's what I would call open source hardware. The only company I have seen that's even close to this is Neuros:
http://www.neurostechnology.com/
http://www.neurostechnology.com/community

I guess that the only people that can answer this are the folks at Bug. We'll have to wait and see if/when they speak to this question.

Josh,
Have you found the part where they tell you if the community can modify/improve the hardware? Are they planning on releasing schematics? Is this really open source hardware?

Regardless, this is a very interesting project!

Is SolidWorks a democracy whose citizens are it's users? I guess we'll find out...

This is by far the most useful new feature of 2007.

I've only been using this release for a month but most of the "improvements", as far as I can tell, were added to help newbies and not experienced users (i.e. Xpert this and that).

in When Are You Upgrading to SolidWorks 2008? on SolidSmack
I agree with Kevin, not "if" but "when". Considering my past experiences with upgrades, I will wait as long as possible. I'm sure the new features are great but not worth moving from a relatively stable/robust platform to one which is sure to be much less stable/robust for AT LEAST the first several service packs.

Our department just upgraded to 2007 SP4.0. Even at this stage of "development", it is significantly less stable/robust than 2006 SP5.1.

Josh,
Thanks for running the contest but more importantly, for drawing my entry.
I can't wait to load it up with all the portable apps I can get my grubby hands on!
