in Retired nurse wins school board seat on Nashua Telegraph
Ingrid is an important member of our community who cares greatly for all and I believe that's obvious. However, she represents a portion of our population that has been quite well represented on that board for 30 years already. And her answer about how she feels about the need to update our failing school building does not bode well for our chances to fix a building that needs to be fixed. Many of the great public works projects in history have been started in times of economic downturns, recessions and the Depression. This is the time to build but I don't see that Ingrid believes that.

I do not know the details of this case but it is unfortunate that taxpayers consider special education such a burden. When a child has a need such as a physical disability that affects education, like my child, then the districts need to provide LRE in an appropriate setting. We private school by choice but do not believe we shouldn't chip in to pay for public education. The heart of the issue in NH is no state income tax. Property owners pay the price for no state income tax and no sales tax. NH needs to look realistically at funding and make changes that would allow for proper free education.

I have to wonder if the Telegraph is trying to kill it's print edition, at least for those of us in your western coverage area. The overlap with the Cabinet has already forced me to cut my delivery to Sundays only. The shrinking news hole and the good news stories with no substance already have me thinking I should just stop delivery and now I have to factor in the merge of web and print editions.

in Nashuatelegraph.com: $8.3m expansion plan jettisoned due to cost, lack of options on Nashua Telegraph
As a taxpayer, I'm more than happy that the school board chose to present one option to the budget committee. The building committee worked for 18 months to provide options to the school board, which then decided which option was best to present to voters.
Decisions about education are the responsibility of the elected members of our school board. Having a budget committee, driven by the bottom line, make decisions that affect education seems to me irresponsible on the part of any school board. I commend the Wilton School Board for their decision.
More than one option splits votes, a lesson we should all learn from the recent Milford and Lyndeborough results.

There is also the matter of people who rent, not just homeowners. The neighborhood surrounding the school has a lot of rental properties with families moving in, bringing children with them.

Isn't it interesting that people on the budget committee who voted not to recommend the plan has children in private school and that the chairman is associated with High Mowing School?

To clarify, $8.349M is the amount of the bond that the building committee has been discussing in it's flyers and public discussions. The additional $279,753 is what the school district will pay in closing fees ($20,000), attorney's fees $6,500) and the first year's payment of $253,253, which will be made in February 2009. Just like a home mortgage there are additional funds needed at closing. Those funds were included the school's operating budget until the budget committee requested that they be included in the bond.

Building a school to current population needs is short-sighted and fiscally irresponsible. Wilton is growing. The planning board recently OK'd 100 new homes.
