HERE HERE!! Kudos for making this an issue to be confronted and one day conquered.

IF you are gone for too long, we'll have to start chanting and attack your new business with pitchforks and torches. Nothing says love like an angry mob with pitchforks and torches.

While I agree that women have the right autonomy over their bodies, and that idea should be a no brainer, I disagree that there is a social obligation to care for ALL children. With rights come responsibilities, and with choices come consequences. She choose to have the children, fully aware that she did not have the means to support them. That she had conceived them through artificial insemination is an indictment of her poor choice and is a disgrace to the doctor who took her money to do so. There is no social obligation to care for children that were brought into this world so that a woman can garner her fifteen minutes of fame.

If anything this woman, in my opinion, is a detriment to feminism and women's rights in that she has made herself a poster child for "freedom without responsibility" that old guard male perspectives want to perpetuate. She is the woman who wants society to pat her on the head and say "there there, don't worry your pretty little head" when women should be seen as more powerful and more profound and more responsible to shatter that "pretty little head" stigma.

She made choices, she should bear the weight of the consequences. I don't think she should do porn, but she should not be the recipient of a social obligation.

This is Georgia, the state that as recently as 1995 still had laws that made oral and anal sex illegal, even between consenting adults. This is not the state to be proud of in any way shape or form.

I applaud The Family Place for starting a conversation. It takes a bold and even offensive statement to open the eyes, to jar the status quo and make people realize there is a huge need in our society to end domestic violence. There is a loss of respect, decorum and civility in our lives, and we feel that unleashing our anger on whomever and whenever is justified because "that's just who I am".

I offended that the ads speaking in absolutes "my husband will kill me" and "I will beat my wife", but as a former volunteer at a shelter I am more offended by the fact that domestic violence is not taken more seriously. Penalties for domestic abuse should be HIGHER than assault, not lower. Police response to domestic needs to see the crime, not a "personal matter".

I do think there are areas where men's rights should be a point of discussion and conversation, but it starts with recognizing the humanity, that we are humans first, then categorized by genitals after. I hope the Family Place gets more people responding to their need and supporting thier work.
