Apple replaced my Powerbook and returned it to me on Friday 29th October (I sent it off to them on the Wednesday, 3 day turn around - awesome!). They also fixed the hinge problem that I was experience (hinge was very tight and screen was difficult to open - this was causing damage to the screen/hinge join) and a small dent below the CD slot (originally they tried to charge me $600.00 for the case replacement but ended up doing it for free).

The code only took two evenings to write - there are going to be bugs. I'll try and make it more robust (better error reporting at the very least) and release a new version in a day or two.
