in Viral on FriendFeed « My Thoughts On Social Media on Social Media Marketing Strategies
Jennifer - I couldn't agree more. Especially about the buzz-without-a-website bit. Although you do have to be willing to spend an inordinate amount of time 'shopping up a screenshot ;)

And the tag on post was "satire", not "prank", but yeah, not many seemed to notice that. I only point it out because I think there was hopefully valuable commentary hidden in the post, making it something more than an episode of Punk'd: Web 2.0 Edition ;) Hopefully.

No problem. Sorry for the typo in your name above. Oops.

Great post Mike. I commented on the FriendFeed thread too (see below) but just wanted to say thanks for being such a great sport and giving the story that little push into FF-viral territory. Nothing could have proved the point better.

By the way, I'm working on a post-mortem of my own and I'll drop by later and post the URL. Cheers!

@Shay Don't worry about it - you were in good company ;) I'll also point you here: http://friendfeed.com/e/f54f86ec-1262-4ead-8d05... in case you were worried about spam.

in My Hiatus From Twitter - Why You Should Join Me on Stay N' Alive
Jesse, Thoughtful article. It's nice to see someone give thorough reasoning behind the decision rather than just saying "Twitter teh suck, Friendfeed FTW!" and leaving it at that. I do agree with you that changes are needed at Twitter (in fact I just wrote an article yesterday on the top ten features I think they need to implement to stay relevant) but for some reason I still love the experience overall. I think it is the community. I wish Friendfeed had, for example, the ability to @ someone like you can on Friendfeed, so that you can pull people into a conversation who might not otherwise join. That's a cool feature of Twitter.

You also raise a good point about the community factor- it's difficult to leave Twitter, even if you want to, because you can't take your Tweeps with you (a point I made in my article yesterday as well.) I checked out Identi.ca and reserved by name, but I honestly can't see myself using it until it becomes a lot more mainstream. Along the same lines, I -want- to like Friendfeed as much as I do Twitter, but I just don't see them as the same. For me, Friendfeed is great for finding and commenting on new stuff online - Twitter is great for interacting with people in a meaningful way (in 140 characters or fewer ;)

Anyway, I won't ramble any more! Great post, and I hope Twitter does what it has to do to win you back.
I've followed you on FF btw

Cheers,

jessestay Thanks Daniel - I agree. FriendFeed is not quite a messaging tool at the
moment, perhaps it never will be (my hope is that it will). That's why I
think identi.ca is a welcome site in the meantime. I think the two can
compliment each other quite well if you can figure out a way that works for
you.

in louisgray.com: It Appears I Won an iPhone 3G from Social Median! on louisgray.com
Congrats Louis! I've been trying to like SM since I got into the alpha, but I didn't find it very intuitive at first glance. Maybe I owe them a second try. If I had known I could have won a 3G iPhone... ;)
