in The truth about traffic on the Internet on Scobleizer
My site is 10 weeks old, and 100 unique visitors is a good day for me. I think I have done the things I need to do to move things forward, I just have to keep delivering content and wait. It's disheartening but I guess everyone goes through this.

in Does McDonalds Count as Food? on LegHumped
No, McDonalds does NOT count as food. McDonalds belongs to the same pseudo-food group that cellophane wrapped gas station microwave hamburgers do.

I've been using Tiger and Slimstat ever since I read your article. Thanks for the tip.

I wish I was in a position to sue people for increasing my authority.

Sean P. Aune Wouldn't it be nice, mlankton? I mean, wow, I wish I could sue people for linkbacks. I would be the coolest blogger EVER!

Seriously, I have no clue what AP is thinking here. If they were going over the "fair use" limit, it would be one thing, but to sue for "LINKS"?!?

Insanity.

in Want a Faster, leaner Browser ? on VinodLive
For Mac users, try Camino (Mozilla based but built for Mac) and OmniWeb (Safari under the hood, but much more customizable). I used OmniWeb for years on NeXT systems, and it's fantastic on the Mac, especially since they replaced the innards with the Apple web kit.

My site is also not made for Digg. My host bans referrals from them! I rarely submit anything to social bookmarking anyway. Stumble can generate a nice amount of referrals for the right content.

Traffic doesn't mean anything if bounce rate and time on site are bad.

Actually I think your site is easy on the eyes. I've never seen this theme before.

Every blog has a plugins article, and they're always the same plugins we're all already using anyway.
I hadn't heard of Tiger Admin or Slimstat before, and I'm going to give them a try.
Thanks

I would think so too. I don't know, but I do know that while I comment on a lot of blogs, I make sure that my comments are relevant and contribute something to the discussion.

I could see it if all I was doing was saying "Great idea, nice site btw!" to get links, but I don't.

Akismet is great, I use it too. However, all akismet held comments should be viewed before deletion. If akismet catches your comment, for whatever reason, and the blog owner deletes, you are now on akismet's blacklist. It happened to me, fortunately I caught it fast and akismet took care of the problem immediately.

in Google reader; I finally understand how to use RSS (sort of) on Todds Tips
rss is awesome for keeping tabs on sites that rarely update, or that have too many updates. Google reader is what I use at work, but I like to use an rss reader app at home, I just find that a dedicated app displays nicer and is more configurable.

in Some Web Design Basics 1: XHTML on Webomatica
I got my site to validate last night. Actually, after hunting down all the things that were causing me errors, and seeing how many errors some of the other sites I use around the web have, I was pretty proud of myself. So much so I even put the w3c button in my left sidebar. Geeky, I know, but having valid code doesn't hurt.

in What is a Good Bounce Rate For a Blog? on Pingable
I experienced my first big jump in daily traffic about three weeks ago. It stayed at 3x my previous average for a week, then dipped down and stayed at a steady 2x my previous average. I can't complain, I doubled my readers. It didn't help that I am in a post tradeshow hangover for my niche, and news is very sparse.
I need to get back to luring people to the site after a week and a half spent on a design change and link building.

in Sidebar decluttering on Patchlog
I have a big, over monetized right sidebar, but only because I am still experimenting to see what works. As far as I'm concerned, my left sidebar is for navigation, and I'm not going to annoy my readers by putting any ads in it, but the right is for monetization, and is easily ignored for web savvy users who aren't interested.

in New DoFollow Rules - Thanks to Andy Beard, Spam Catcher. on Free Traffic Tips
Dofollow bloggers are doing you a favor. Show some manners and contribute something relevant. Pay for your link, if that's all your there for.
I have actually become a reader of several blogs that I admit I only first visited because they were dofollow. Dofollow benefits the host too, by increasing comments. However, I certainly don't blame anyone for deleting posts that serve no purpose other than to get the link.

in I’m Thinking About Quitting Blogging on Jim Kukral
Don't hang up the gloves just yet. Post when you are really driven to, not just when you haven't done so and you feel obligated to. The written word gives you a chance to express yourself in a way that you won't be able to on video. Maybe hire a contributor or two to write articles to keep the content on the site flowing.

Hilarious. You are absolutely on the money. #1 should be Needs TLC, you see that all the time and it means you better have some time and money to make this house inhabitable. Nice list

Sorry about the multiple posts, but your comments freeze on long posts.

So what's the problem, am I a spammer or is the dofollow community not practicing what they preach?

in Give Out Some Link Love and Remove NoFollow on Instigator Blog
I can understand intolerance of comment spam, but don't punish commentors who take the time to seek you out, find and read one of your articles in it's entirety, and take the time to participate in your discussion.

The results? Not one single dofollow from the dofollow blogs. I don't know if that was due to my using the screen name AV Enthusiast, which I have also used in web forums, and is incidentally the name of my site.

in Give Out Some Link Love and Remove NoFollow on Instigator Blog
He advised to get as many as possible, since my site is less than a week old. I told him that I wasn't going to comment on any topic that I didn't actually have an opinion on, so I spent an entire evening reading blog entries, and passing on the great majority of them, commenting on maybe 15 sites. When I found an article that was actually of interest, I left a relevant comment.
