I hate self proclaimed gurus/experts. Just do a search for social media guru / expert and look at the long line of douche-bags referring to themselves as such. The important thing is to follow this post up with an education on how to find someone with passion and expertise in social media - so you don't get ripped off by self-proclaimed experts with a bunch of followers.

Re: Reflections on PodCamp Philly

Glad you enjoyed the session, see you at the next one, lemme know if you are running into any issues I'll see if I can help ya.

Thanks!
--Wil

Re: Reflections on PodCamp Philly

Glad you enjoyed the session, see you at the next one, lemme know if you are running into any issues I'll see if I can help ya.

Thanks!
--Wil

Re: Example of a Great PR Pitch

Funny, I think what this person did was smart. They developed a message that was generalizable, but made people feel that it was personal. Seth sees this and then shows us that what we thought was personal was not.

I think the only thing that could have been done to make this more authentic would be to actually read the blogger's stuff and connect (if possible) the bloggers actual interests to your clients offering.

Re: Is a Search Engine for African-Americans a Step Backwards?

Beal my man, you are off here.

"Just when I thought I had it all figured out–we’re one America and there should be no segregation/segmentation based on the color of our skin–Rushmore Drive launches."

This is about marketing dude, you know that. Products and services have been marketed to people of different wealths, races, sexual orientations, etc. BET for instance makes sense.

However this idea is awful, for once simple reason...relevancy.

People, regardless of color, wealth, sexual orientation, height, etc want relevant results.

Would I be more likely to use this search engine because I am black - YES - if it did a better job than Google. Which it won't do, because if they could do a better job than Google they would not focus their search on one race and instead do for do it for the whole world - thus increasing revenues.

If this is a portal then fine, a search engine? STUPID!

If I type in a query I want the best result, searching for a coupon or a medication? Just get me the best result, I don't want coupons only for blacks or only black doctors to return in my results for a medication.

Let me go short IAC, they are reaching for straws!

Re: Is a Search Engine for African-Americans a Step Backwards?

I just meant you were off on that quote. Meaning even if you do with with 2 on two different sites, more than likely you'll find yourself liking on over the other either in how they respond to you or in results.

Most GOOD SEO shops will turn down an opportunity if there are to be 2 SEOs on the SAME site because they ultimately want to be responsible for as much of the outcome as possible and having someone else in there will only cause issues and infighting.

Infighting will just lead to you have to manage the two, taking more of your time away from what matters most.

Unfortunately we have pissed in our own pool with so many bad SEO shops who overpromise that clients are starting to think this is a good idea to hedge against a bad experience.

Re: When SEO Isn’t For Increasing Sales

Lee, you bring up a great point - while I really like the fact that SEO (and web marketing in general) is such a trackable medium. I can still remember the first time I read that iProspect study (WhitePaper_2006_SearchEngineUserBehavior.pdf)

That said 36% of the browsing public believed that top rankings indicate a leadership position or top company in the field.

Re: 5 Ways to Re-Purpose Content for Blog SEO

Lee, good post!
