in Basketball: Canes Ranked #16 in Initial Coaches Poll on Canes Rising
Not too bad for a starting ranking. I would have been content with anywhere between 15-20. We have the talent to do it, just have to go out and stay there.

Kenny Boynton committed to Florida tonight. Local kid going to UF, so we still have not locked down South Florida.

Amazing how a QB change can make the offensive coordinator previously deemed a fool look like a ganius.

in Sentimental Favorite St Louis Launches MLS Bid on Major League Soccer Talk
(I posted this at your CSRN site as well but it has to get out there.......you totally snubbed or forgot NYC)
You forgot New York and yes the two biggest areas get the two teams.
New York and Miami.
Miami is a shoo in.
As you mention the league realizes that the Fusion failed because of bad managment not a bad market.
They were waiting on an investor to show up there and would be a shoo in.
This Bolivian guy has answered the call.
New York is getting a team for the city because the Red Bulls are a Jersey team that gets none of the ethnic fans in the city or long island. This is similar to Miami, whose previous team played outside the ethnic areas. The new team will be in Miami.
It’s a done deal unless MLS adds four teams.

This was the worst game we've played all year BAR NONE.
You expect a team to improve throughout the year, but this team peaked in the first three quarters against UF and the third quarter against TAMU. the 4th quarter against A&M was an indicator of how the remaineder of the season would go. Soft D, INT on the goal line, no intensity.
We are terrible.

Marve's play this season has not justified why the coaches should glue Jacory to the bench. If Jacory was the starter and producing numbers worst than Kyle Wright, you guys would be screaming for the coaches to put in Marve. If Marve sitting on the sidelines for an extended time turns Marve into Kyle Wright, maybe he's not the guy we hope that he is. Stop blaming Jacory, Nix and Shannon for horrible play week after week. I hope he turns it around, but his screw ups are his screw ups. It's on him not on anyone else. Kartik, you ought to check out the Fins instead!

Anyhow, 3rd down call was pathetic.

I'm totally disgusted and cannot watch this anymore.
Tell me how it turns out guys.
Nix has no imagination but even with better play calls, our line is so bad. Jason Fox isn't even an NFL draft pick in my mind.

When you see Virginia and Wake playing the last two days you see imagination and risk taking. The Canes don't take chances until late in games falling behind. We can blame iNix all we want but the direction of a program, the attitude comes from the head coach.
We are a disaster.

You've gone from being a critcal angry fan to a homer.
Dude, Virginia is going to kick our ass. Look at what they are doing to ECU right now.
No way we have 50% chance to win that game or the game against Duke!

There sure is a lot of buzz around the blogosphere about Nix jumping ship.
Not even halfway through the 08 campaign and things look like their falling apart.
RANDY IS SO FAR OVER HIS HEAD ITS JUST PLAIN FUNNY

in Party Like 1999? on Canes Rising
I don't expect Shannon to leave soon; Miami has a recent track record of holding on to mediocre coaches even after they have removed any doubt of their ineffectiveness. Coker and Clark come to mind. Shannon is in the second year after being an assistant for many years. Saban and Butch Davis are in their second years. Does anyone doubt that Miami has vastly superior talent than UNC? So how did UNC beat UM the past two years? The Virginia team that beat Miami 48-0 was the same team that lost to Wyoming 23-3. The problems with Shannon and his assistants are very simple: They get pedestrian performances from superior talent; they have lame play calling; they tolerate stupid penalties; they are incompetent clock managers; most telling, they blame players for losses rather than take responsibility. The motto is supposed to be NO EXCUSES! But Shannon always has a pocketful of excuses. I have never heard him say he is responsible for the team's failures. UCF lost to UTEP 58-13. That is UTEP's only win. Will Miami look better than hapless UTEP this Saturday? I hope so but I would not bet on it. I would deny that I expect unrealistic results. Miami was favored in its last two games. I cannot accept consecutive losses at home to unranked underdogs. Incompetent coaching was the critical factor in all three losses this year. UF has more talent than UM; FSU and UM are similarly talented; Miami has more talent than the other ten teams on the schedule. The only explanation for habitually losing to inferior teams is inferior coaches. This Miami team you mention was coached by a man who has spanked Shannon twice in two years, so you can stop the comparison.

in Give Shannon Time: Patience Required on Canes Rising
Coker lost 9 games in 5 years. Shannon has lost 10 games in less than two years. He did have an accurate assessment after the FSU game: "We can't stop the run and we can't stop the pass." He could add, we can't run the ball and we can't pass very well.

in Give Shannon Time: Patience Required on Canes Rising
RS recruited and trained these upperclassmen on D. If he had not been on the staff it would be one thing, All the Shannon shills gloss over that, but he had carte blanche over the D under Coker - he recruited how he wanted and trained his men how he wanted, so how come out secondary sucks so badly with guys that he trained covering WR's? All your examples are of coaches new to a program, not an assistant that was heavily involved in recruiting and the direction of the program.

Well put. I'm not giving them until 2011 like you, but I think next year will be the key season to judge.

2011 is the key year, WL.
You need to read the full recruit class of a coach to see how he does.
I will be that patient, I just think they'll turn it around in less than four years -- and I'm not even drinking the Kool-Aid.
