I had a lot of trouble with this concept, as well as explaining it to friends, in high school when we had a bad principle, even at a Christian school. I learned to respect authority and got over dissapointments. I learned to trust God. The only time I won't respect authority is when they tell me to do something against my faith.

http://atthestudy.blogspot.com
http://declarationphotos.blogspot.com

Re: what is truth?

Great post! I believe in an absolute truth. There are a lot of people who would say that everyone has their own truth, but that would just cause a lot of chaos. You are also right about the truth being misused. If you use one truth with one falsity, does that make the result true? I guess there are a lot of peope who aren't very good at logic because they fall for the falsities that use truth as support. For example, many religions use the Bible to support their beliefs, but they do not use it correctly. Does that make the Bible wrong? No! It makes the interpretation wrong. The absolute truth is the absolute truth. It cannot be changed.

Re: I HATE HARRY POTTER (and the Christian morons who adore him)

I've never been for obsessing over worldly items or things. In fact, the last book on the Potter series warns against allowing your weakness of wanting, taking, and using wrongly to control your life. I do strongly believe that there is Christian symbolism in all of the books, especially the last one (I have posted serveral posts on the topic on my blog). Rowling, herself, claims to be a Christian. She refused to give details away of her faith because she knew it would spoil the ending. I'll never put the Potter books over the Bible, but I do not think that we should shun the books because some idiots go too crazy over them. The books were merely a series well written and highly enjoyed until I started looking at the CHristian symbolism in them. I've found that they've given great menaing to my faith and pushed me forward. That is, my faith has made the books mean something to me. I do see the harm in making the books into a fad and joining that fad as you described, but I see no harm at all in discussing the books and learning from them. The site you provided actually seems a good one to me. Besides, why should you hate Harry Potter? It's a good series. Don't hate it just because the world loves it and tries to turn it into something evil. Just because an interpretation is evil does not mean the books are evil.

Re: I HATE HARRY POTTER (and the Christian morons who adore him)

By the way, I forgot to mention that I was one of those who went to get the last book at midnnight (although I never did it for any other books). However, I made a promise to God that while I would be rushing through the final book to find out what happens, I would still take equally as much time out to read my Bible and spend time with the Lord as I did with the Potter book, and I did that. So, I think that the series is good and is full of Christian themes. I think that a love of the series can be tastefully measured. That we can still enjoy the series and get a lot of them, but get even more out of the Bible and our relationship with Christ.

If you are interested, the following link will take you to a post by someone other than me that has a similar opinion to yours (I commented in reply to that post as well).

http://www.sicarii.net/2007/07/12/hogwarts-hogw...

Re: Calvinism: Reducing Salvation to Car Insurance

I read your blog as often as I get a chance, and it's a great blog, but don't let the fact that TBN airs cooks like Benny Hinn decide for you what a person is like. I love listening to Ergun Caner. He is not a cook and certainly not a Charismatic. I think he might be a baptist. Anyway, I got to listen to him guest speak once and learned a lot from it. He's a great speaker. He's a funny speaker. He's a serious speaker. He's a humble speaker. He loves the Lord. I'm not sure if you already know this, but he is also a former Muslim. He uses his testimony, but does not concentrate on it or himself. He's humble. He does not care about himself as he does others. He also is a professor at Liberty University, a college well known for how much they love the Lord. I don't know how much you knew about Caner, and I don't want to come off offensive, but I just wanted to let you know that he may not be what you think he is. I wanted to tell you my impression of him so you would have a better idea of what he does and who he is.

Re: Calvinism: Reducing Salvation to Car Insurance

Also on a quick note, I am sure that Caner is aware that coming to Christ is not an easy thing, seeing as how he came from an extreme Muslim background where he would be shunned and hated for converting.

Re: Calvinism: Reducing Salvation to Car Insurance

No problem. I too dislike and disagree with much of what is broadcasted on TBN, but every once in a while they have something good on.

Re: Calvinism: Reducing Salvation to Car Insurance

I'm sad that I did not get through all the books I wanted to read this summer (mostly Christian books) and sad that I won't be able to sleep in any longer once college starts up again, but I'm ready for something to happen. I am so sick of being copped up in this house all day! LOL. I'm anxious to move into the college life as well. So I suppose you could say I am ready for summer to end.

Re: Calvinism: Reducing Salvation to Car Insurance

I do not know specifics of people aired on TBN, but I do know it is not my place to judge or condemn anyone in this world. That's God's job. My job is to be a witness for God. However, I do not see it fit to defend those who go around waving their hands and saying "be healed" because that is a very fake experience. I do believe in mircales brought on by God, but not in those brought on by man. I tend to believe that a lot of them, although not all, are only after the money or even after the fake experiences. I find that many of them focus too much on the emotions and not enough on doctrine or relationship. I think it healthy for a person to go in between the two. I'm the exact same way. Strange how it's so easy to sleep during the day but at night we just can't sleep because we're so curious if someone has posted on our blog yet or added us as a friend on blog catalog. Strange that it would apply to me seeing as how I know not many people read my blog and I hardly ever get comments. LOL. It is now 2:18 AM here and I'm still up typing this. Hope I'm not keep you up.

Re: I HATE HARRY POTTER (and the Christian morons who adore him)

I agree that we have to be careful what we allow our children to take in. Harry Potter does have some Christian morals and parallels in it with Biblical truths and stories, but that doens't make it the best choice. I'd stick to Narnia for the young ones. However, you'd be surprised at how some young children can read books like Harry Potter and decipher Christian values in them. But not all children can do this and some may get the wrong idea when they read them. So, the parent should be careful in descerning what their chidlren can handle and understand. I wasn't allowed to read the HP books until the movies came out (around jr. high for me). By then I was able to discern fact from fiction.

Re: I HATE HARRY POTTER (and the Christian morons who adore him)

Oh, and I also believe that the efforts people put out against HP would be much better concentrated on books and movies such as the Golden Compas which are more likely to corrupt the minds of children. Golden Compas is an atheist film.

I will admit however, that I was appalled to learn that Rowling is just another Kristin Chenoweth - she supports the gay lifestyle and says Dumbledore is gay.

Re: I HATE HARRY POTTER (and the Christian morons who adore him)

I think Lincoln, while coming out a bit over the top, was not trying to be hateful or rude to other people, he was simple making the point that it is a sin to put other things over God. While it's not unhealthy to have an obsession or hobby in one area, it is spiritually unhealthy to have an obsession that crosses the line and keeps you from God.

Re: The Primacy of Peter

Great post!!! My dad has always had similar opinions and made them known to me. I've found that he has good reasoning and upon my own reading and knowledge of the topic I must also agree with what you have said.

I think one slight problem with the Catholic church's assertions is that it seems to place itself eqaul with Christ. They still have confessions, don't they? And you have to go through the priest to have communion. Most Catholic churches teach salvation through works, not faith, as well, which is one of my biggest pet peeves.

I've known several Catholics who don't believe in these things. I know there are those who go to Catholic church, but really do have the heart relationship with Christ and belive in salvation through faith in Christ alone. I find that many do not realize what their church teaches. Either that or they blindly feed off of what they are told.

In regards to who is Christ's representative on earth, I belive we all have the equal responsibilty to represent Christ. I also think this is one of the reasons why community is so important. We work together as a community and as individuals to witness to those around us. There is no one specific representative of Christ that leads the church, we all work together to move the church forward.

Re: There’s Something About Mary

Another great and informational post!
