Twitter is spending serious money on a free service and they have yet to make money of it. Messaging costs money. Servers costs money. Unless a very big investement is made is would not work.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A distributed twitter can be made today. Use XMPP. Use Amazon SQS.
