in Google Latitude: An ‘insidious threat’? on The Really Mobile Project
When I click on Options in Google Maps Mobile (S60 version) and select Latitude, there are 'privacy options' including one to "Hide your location".
Maybe Tom Brake's PDA(!) version doesn't have that. Or maybe he's a clueless, attention-seeking MP.
But I'd consider that sufficient to preserve my oh-so-secret whereabouts.

Greedy and grasping.
No not the pirates, Follett and Rowling!
Presumably the Times couldn't find any worthy authors desperately struggling to keep a roof on their proverbial garret?

I'm gutted that you're selling out.
Both for the tens of thousands of regular (and compulsive) readers presumably to be dumped at the kerbside and the great team of contributors you've built up who, I'd guess, won't get anything like the buzz when reporting for perhaps a hundred minted industry execs.

I'm sure you've made the right business decision Ewan, but I can't deny the news is most unwelcome.

in The Nokia E75 is in the house! on Mobile Industry Review
How many times does it ask which access point you want to use in 10 minutes of browsing?
How many clicks before you can actually start typing an SMS/email to a specific contact?
Does it receive imap emails instantly or just check the server every x minutes?
If you punch 46277, does it ask if you want to use your GMaps shortcut?
Can the E75's IM client cope with GTalk contacts?

And I can't think of a reason why they would activate the facility in the first place...

Just attach them to your email to have them easily available from your mobile(s).

in OrangePartnerCampWatch: We’re there! on Mobile Industry Review
I'd like to know the total number of 'air miles' travelled by delegates and Orange staff; the event's overall carbon footprint and why the hell it needs to be in Florida, rather than Manchester, Bristol or Paris?

(Disclosure: I earn a proportion of my income in the production of similar events in the UK.)

in Why I love the US auto industry on Scobleizer
Robert wrote: "I really loved the Flex and would love to have one, other than the gas mileage was only about 17MPG in my experience."
Just for comparison's sake, I get between 5-6 kms/litre (about 17 mpg(US) from my fully-loaded 7.5 tonne truck. How the hell does Ford (another wave to Scott Monty) justify that ridiculous fuel consumption for a CAR?

Nuclear power can only be a short-term fix (and a dangerous and massively polluting one at that) -- uranium is expected to become scarce within a couple of decades, even sooner given the likely expansion of power plants to reduce oil dependency.
Oh, and where are you thinking of storing all the spent fuel, irradiated equipment, etc. for a couple of thousand years?

Of course you're right, Dude.
O2 and, to a lesser extent, CPW should by now have added comments to every one of the pained articles here on SMStn by now, even if only to apologise for the cock-ups.

Dunno about calling them evangelists tho' -- a less right-on title might help their wider adoption among the Luddites.

Keep at it, mate. You know it makes sense!

in o2’s Apple iPhone 3G launch: Chaotic, shambolic, appalling. Next! on Mobile Industry Review
Let's face it: O2 are shit useless!
If even their friendly PR-droids had an ounce of sense they'd be trawling mobile blogs and forums explaining the problems and reassuring customers. But after 17 hours of this post being published, there's nothing but silence.

Even Orange couldn't turn this series of glitches into such a disaster!

in Should the CEO get involved? - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist on Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist
@Michele - while I too dislike anodyne, please-all statements from company representatives, the CEO highlighted in the account on Tom's blog could have got his point across to it's wider readership far more effectively had he left his emotions at the door.

And as you've brought it up, I particularly didn't want to call his honesty into question as I suspect (and hope that) Blueface has mistaken Tom for another, less co-operative, ex-customer.

Paul, I think you may have accidentally omitted the final sentence of the paragraph?

in Google kicking butt on iPhone on Scobleizer
Guys, guys... get back to the story!

Over the Christmas holidays, Google got more hits from iPhones (2% of total smartphones) than Symbian phones (60+%).

I am no Apple fanboy, but that's a remarkable explosion in use of the mobile internet and could have widespread implications, not least for Nokia.
For how long will Google invest in developing for three operating systems?

Seemingly on another planet, UK pre-Christmas iPhone sales were terrible.
