in Why Qwitter is likely to do more damage than good - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist on Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist
Brilliant. If people use this tool and get miffed, great. A tool that lets people know they're not as great as they think they are might be a good thing in the longrun for them. It's not damage. If someone unfollows me because I don't follow them then they may have been following me for entirely the wrong reasons.

Qwitter (bad name given another app with same name has existed for ages) is an app that is causing emotional reactions and changing the status quo on a social network. That's Wow right there. Like Marcus said, disruption.

Crikey, everyone has beaten me to recommending you talk to Pat.

Fred, come to Ireland if you can, we'd be delighted to welcome you and show you around. Bono might be too busy preaching somewhere outside of Ireland about saving the world to have a pint with you, sorry!

I'm a big fan of Twitterfone because 1. It rocks 2. One of the founders is from Cork, Ireland and Cork people are terribly patriotic 3. It accepts naughty words

(Disclaimer: I helped the Twitterfone folks get the word out about it when they launched and I'd consider Pat Phelan from MaxRoam to be a close friend)

Philippe Bradley I like to think that there isn't - this blog is still a personal place, a selfish tool that I use to record my thoughts for my own future use (I have terrible memory, but I like to come back to my previous statements and see how they - and I! - have changed. Practicing writing out in the open helps me focus on keeping things short, clear and concise, in case anyone besides me is mad enough to read this stuff. Finding a writing 'voice' is something I've badly needed to work on, this is how I finally got round to doing it.

in Why TechLudd should stop before it starts - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist on Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist
Since I'm mentioned here I guess I have to reply but to be clear, I won't be taking an active part in any of these groups and for various reasons I think I'm going to be bowing out of most events in 2008.

I'm glad the white knight that is Fergus came in to this and talked the most sense here and was not territorial. Too many dogs, not enough hydrants.

Anton, you did consult me but I didn't give much, if any feedback though I did say run the idea past Fergus. Seems there's been a basic communications screw up here by a few people not one. I had meant to forward on your thoughts to Conor and James too but things got in the way.

Anton this next bits sounds like I'm talking as if you're 14 but I'm in too much of a hurry to frame this right. Anton is bright and enthusiastic and has a lot of energy and wants to help a community not act just for himself. The org doesn't matter but he should be welcomed into the community since when it comes down to it there's a very slim few busting their balls to do things here and there's always space for more er .. dangly bits. But there needs to be coordination too so there's no overlap. The place is too small to have overlap.

By the by, the information on web2Ireland is almost all new information to me. I wasn't aware of that, perhaps there needs to be more in the about us section and how to help us sections?

Really surprised at the amount of pissy ego bumping in the comments here. I mean, none of them were from me.

in Marketing for marketers, huh? - Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist on Paul Walsh, the Irish Opportunist
Don't use banner ads or Google ads to get my attention. I won't notice them. Don't build flash or flashy websites to tell me about your existing or new products, they'll waste my time.

Instead, talk to the bloggers I read and have them test these new products out. Have the grumpy and non-grumpy people review your stuff.

Do create sites that will make me consume more data or if you don't create them, give me easy access to sites that will. You still make money from my downloading.

Don't build a new twitter or something like that which makes me spend more on text messages which will make you more money. I've already made my commitments so partner with them or Jaiku or existing sites. You still make your buck.

As can be seen by Nike, they're moving away from old-style marketing and instead are creating services and communities where their customers gather after using their product, such as that Nike running site. A site that gets their customers to run more, wearing down the shoes more and so ensuring more products and accessories being bought too. Don't build something yourself, hire in someone that will instead, some new young company that gets this, you'll take 3 years with all your meetings about meetings. Hi Nokia Mosh!

Some thoughts so far.

in Google Reader + Facebook Application = Digg killer? on Scobleizer
I have a public Google Reader feed of all the Twitter users in Ireland (or at least a lot of them)
http://www.google.com/reader/shared/user/120971...

but this app won't show that, only the root shared feed - http://www.google.com/reader/shared/12097132795... If I was able to use Mario's app to show my shared Twitter label, I'd be using it.

in “PayPerSpeech” disclosure on Scobleizer
Robert,
Are you contractually obliged to attend this as it is what your company dictates?

Is Podtech running out of cash? It just seems like you have to go to this and the Intel video fiasco made it seem like you were under personal pressure to get more attention for them.

I think you should go and take expenses but not take a fee and from the keynote tell them all there what blogging is about, like you and Shel wrote about and explain why the pay per post model is a bad thing.

You're well respected and loved because you are not a shill. I hope you're not changing.

in Pissing off the blogosphere… on Scobleizer
There seems to be a bit of a blur with this. Intel are not a sponsor but *are* a client? Money is being exchanged with Intel either directly or indirectly. Only in the comments has it been mentioned they are a client of some description. I'm honestly surprised as you normally are excellent with disclaimers. I think you should have had some kind of message saying your employer has an existing financial relationship with them.

I agree with Adam, (disclaimer: I know him) this video promotion is akin to the work of a PR company.
