in ROHRABACHER’S CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES DON’T INCLUDE REAGAN’S 100TH BIRTHDAY PARTY on The District Weekly
Lets see, Long Beach in the same constituency as parts of the OC. I wonder which area is going to get the money and attention?
I might be wrong, but I'm sure I read that LB port mitigation credits were used to fund the restoration of the Bolsa Chica wet lands. Huntington got new wetlands and Long Beach got more port pollution. Please explain this situation, Dana.

in BELMONT SHORE BAR SCENE FINALLY DRAWS A CROWD OF COPS on The District Weekly
let us apply pro-airport expansion logic to this situation, shall we?
"You people knew there were bars on 2nd Street when you bought your homes nearby. So shut up and enjoy the drunkards! You have no right to restrict the number of bars on 2nd Street, they create jobs in the city! How dare you protect your quality of life."
Asinine, isn't it. Try hearing every time you suggest the airport stay small.

I moments like this, I like to apply jetBlue airPort logic.

Lets apply pro-airport expansion logic to the situation, shall we?
"Screw the homeless, they new there was a race track nearby when they decided to camp there."
And on a serious note, although off the subject, LBresident makes a good point in his/her rant, I would like to know how many city employees live elsewhere and "export" their incomes. Of course, I am a hypocrite because I import a government income.
See you all at the race (unless you are homeless and in jail)

Just another prime example of the greedy using a abusing Long Beach at the expense of its residents.
Great job reporting, thank you.

in SAVE IT, DON’T PAVE IT on The District Weekly
Who needs wetlands anyway? What we really need to do is spend all the city's money to build a giant airport so Jet Blue will stick around. Maybe we can let Jet Blue dump there old Airbus planes in the wetlands when they are done with them. Better yet, have Jet Blue promise not to buy any American made planes so more aerospace business in Long Beach can go under like the Boeing 717 plant.
Don't get me started on that waste of time and money breakwater study. Who needs waves that make a city appealing to turists?

in MIGHT UNHAPPY JETBLUE BAIL ON LB AIRPORT? on The District Weekly
Jet Blue is pulling an NFL-like stunt, "Build me new stadium or you can't have a team."
Hey Jet Blue, the city doesn't have the 130 some-odd million bucks to start building a new terminal; get over it.
... and don't let the door hit you on the way out!!

Long Beach is positioned in the 46th district as the dumping ground for everything not wanted in Orange County. Long Beach citizens in the 46th district don't have a voice in Congress.

Dave in Alamitos Beach you hit the nail on the head, it seems Dana Rohrbacher could care less about the LBC's beaches and wetlands. Look into the restoration of Bolsa Chica for example, it wasn't the "Port of Huntington Beach" that paid for it, it was our port. With this in mind, compare Bolsa Chica with Los Cerritos, the LA river, the San Gabriel river.
It would be so bad if our city got some of the port money... but we don't. We are getting the shaft.

in SCHIPSKE’S COURAGEOUS PROPOSALS TAKE ON THE PORT’S POWERFUL STATUS QUO | The District Weekly on The District Weekly
Thanks for the info Dave. I am stoked to have an "LA / OC Weekly- like" alternative voice in Long Beach.
I know the port paid to restore Bolsa Chica for mitigation credits (used to offset pollution that Long Beach deals with). However, The Los Cerritos Wetlands, The LA River, and San Gabriel River have been ignored. Bolsa Chica is set for another huge restoration. Maybe this would make a good story? I am not a reporter, but we trust you guys to expose the truth.

If you build it, they will come. We already assist a huge transient population in this city and I am proud of out compassion. However, in terms of transient services, public and private, we bear a greater share than surrounding cities, especially those on the on the other side of the Orange Curtain. They need to recognize they are also responsible for this social issue.

and I do like to rant.
