Hi Juana,
Glad you enjoyed my post! From one Mizzou grad to another, congrats on staying firm in the belief of journalism. I remember seeing your name around Mizzou....I don't think you have anything to be worried about, ;)
Cheers,

in 12 Things to Stop Doing in 2009 on Chris Brogan
I have the hardest time with #6...there is so much I want to do...that I just want to do it all. Options are good, but I need to get better at filtering them. Usually, this results in burn-out, spreading oneself to thin, and less attention to what really matters: living life OFFline and connecting heart-to-heart with the ones we love. So, in 2009, one thing I am going to do...is to also learn when, and how, to effectively say no and get others involved.
Thanks for the reminder Chris!

Hi Chris,
I'm been scanning for my next book to read for the holidays and was thinking about picking up the book "Outliers." Have you read this book, and if so, what do you think?

Site looks great, and a great idea! Answers my question in part on how to manage multiple interests online. Look forward to possibly hearing more about the different experience and lessons learned with ads and the solo vs. group blog approach. Is the long term vision possibly similiar to a BlogHer (note: BlogHer is comprised of many women. Some moms yes, but not all. =) ...only for males that are also dads?
Genius! =)

Great post series idea as there is a large population of social media and social change evangelists. I saw that Beth Kanter already made a comment, but she is a huge role model and leader within this community that many of us look up to and greatly respect. I also encourage you to check out the changeblogger movement Britt Bravo, Qui Diaz and myself...and many others have been coordinating to show how social media-ites are using the technology and web to create social change. If you are in DC, we are having out first event on Oct. 15: www.changemakers.eventbrite.com

in 2008/08/26/government-20-being-individually-empowerful/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Nice wrap up on Twitter usage by government. I recently conducted a Twitter training for one of our government clients. I too have noticed the divide between the enterprises and the empowereds. Though, government alone aren't the only ones guilty of it. Many brands, orgs and companies do much more pushing, than conversing.
For example, I think Twitterfeed is a great tool, but too many groups are too reliant on Twitterfeed. I personally don't use it, as I like to add a personal touch when I announce my blog posts on Twitter. So far, that strategy has shown to be pretty successful as it allows me to add my own voice and tone to the message....even if it is only 140 characters long. =)

in The Social Web Economy: Advertising Professionals on Social Times
Glad you posted this today about the advertising industry. I was gonna suggest u reach out to that group for the social network conference in NY. While I do enjoy learning about new tools and the latest start-ups, etc., the business side and where the cash flows are currently being decided are in the agencies. Thus, if at the conference, I would want to hear from the agencies, what their clients have to say, their experiences, success stories, etc. Jeremy Owyang just released a very helpful report on the best and worst of social networking that looked more on this side of social networking, rather than the developer side.
Thanks Nick!

in When Your Blog is a Grand Stage on Chris Brogan
Great post. I liked the inspiration post, outside of the social media realm. Course, that's my 'beat' per say. A quick question: What would be your speech?
As an addition, for now (and since it's late and I should be sleeping!), I also offer that my speech is through action. Words or words, but action speaks for itself.
Make your life - your speech. =)

Great take on explaining the Twitter-verse! I especially like the conversationalists and people who provide URLs to helpful content or respond when I post a question. I try to do the same in return.
Happy Twittering =)

in Where I Learn Even More on Chris Brogan
Great post! I think if we step back, we'd be surprised at just how many sources tend to influence us one way or another. I find the study of 'influence' very interesting and intriguing which may also be related to why I love social media.
We are influenced from many different variables - peers, colleagues, family, strangers, media, work, government, past experiences, beliefs, the cashier at Starbuck's, etc. Thus, I second and appreciate this post Chris - even may for those looking to learn more, to also reflect on what influences you, and how you react.
You can become more empowered by understanding how different things affect you and influence your thoughts and behaviors. Okay, stepping off soapbox... ;)

You are completely correct that corporations are struggling with these same issues. No one has it all worked out at this point. What is unique about the Government is (1) it has many missions not often seen in other entities, (2) its size dwarfs that of even the largest companies, and (3) it tends to move slowly in reaction to a changing environment.
