Because who do you trust to run an experimental nuclear program more than TVA?

I saw that in the flickr pool and was wondering why it hadn't been a Photo of the Day yet. Holy frak!

I was going to post in on Friday but decided it was too depressing for Feel Good Friday! Definitely more of a Monday photo.

Congrats! You guys rock. Every time I flip on the local evening news, I always feel so ahead of the game because I heard most of the stories here first.
Here's to the next thousand posts!

Ah, more delicious irony. Does this guy even know what "raising cain" means, or did he just think it sounded like a catchy basis for a song?
Re: getting on the train or getting out of the way -- When you're attacking your opponent for being too skinny, I'd say your campaign is already half-derailed. And we still have three months until the election!

Anyone else hearing Derek Zoolander's voice when you read the phrase "exceptionally good-looking"?

I heard early voting ends on 8/2 -- the primary itself is 8/7.
P.S. I love that photo. It's the vaguely creepy, hiding-in-the-bushes point of view that makes it for me.

Morgan -- Beautiful. That about sums it up, doesn't it? (I love consumerist.)

in Walmart: Tamed In Tennessee? | Nashvillest on Nashvillest
It would take a lot more than that to get me to start shopping there, but I'm glad Walmart's offering this stuff for the (many, many) people who already do go there.
And is it just me, or does anyone else find the new logo with its big asterisk at the end (as in, here's what it costs to bring you all this cheap stuff) unintentionally hilarious?

What's been going on with the news the last couple days? Last night, the 5 o'clock news on Channel 4 had a story about Boston Harbor, and put up a helpful map showing Boston in the middle of... Washington? WTF??

Seriously. Barf.
How much do you want to bet these are the same sort of people who would go visit Mexico (or any other non-English-speaking country) on vacation and expect everyone there to converse in English?

in Only In Nashville: Global Warming Lives Here on Nashvillest
Maybe I'm missing something here, but the person calling Gore a charlatan is complaining about how big the house is and how much energy it uses, but in the same breath is denouncing global warming as a hoax? If it's a hoax, who cares how much energy the man uses. Something's not clicking there.
And of course, the people attacking Gore don't want to acknowledge the significant renovations he has made (and continues to make) to decrease energy use and switch over to cleaner energy:
