Tried this, and everything worked fine up until I ran the

CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=2 NOEXTRAS=1 skipabi=true skipmodule=true fakeroot debian/rules binary-XXXX

command. (where XXXX is replaced by my special name). When I ran this, I got the following error:

make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'binary-XXXX'. Stop.

I went back and checked my steps. I verified files were in place and edited as required. Still fails.

Any ideas?

I am sure if the iPhone 3GS include a slide out keyboard, it's going to be just as bulky!! The iPhone and even the Droids does not displayed webpages like you would get on a regular PC!! It gives you mobile sites rather than regular sites. That is why it is pointless to say that iPhone is faster...of course it's faster..because it's not showing flash contents and full website. Iphone lack so many features that it is far superior to N900. The only thing that Iphone has over N900 is the design and slim being sexiness (which is understandable being lack of features). Other than that, it's not comparable.And the only thing that Droid have over N900 is the Google Map Navigation. iPhone lack of full website support w/ Flash, lack of 5.0MP cam, lack of multitasks, lack of high resolution screen, lack of a better UI in which multiple tasks can be view on a single screen. I am sure the next iPHONE will have all of that and we'll see if it's just a bulky!!

Wouldnt it be great if it were stable......... and the horrible echo and feedback was reduced no removed from the phone module, that the bluetooth was "functional" that we could yes "copy and paste", that the UI wasnt adhorent or boring and more customizable. A removable battery would help, a decent camera would certainly be a bonus, a higher and decent screen res would also be nice........ basically a device that does more than just appeal to the eye and oh yes gosh the most important bit, fuck me why cant the name not be about fruit! I agree with something someone said at some forum visited and thats that the RIAA is able to target P2P users and they are allowed to but no one has been able to close down or find who run illegal porn sites. All of this is driven by money and nothng else. The RIAA wants to basically "leech" off of us so that they dont loose even a dime ever. They already leech of the very own artists that work for them and now they are targeting us. All I can say that if they think that their greed will stop us, they are wrong because there are just as many other people that will profit from the RIAAs greed by making better and more accessible anonymity programs. Theres always a work around for everything.

It would be interesting to find out what kind of a readership you have. Maybe your readers are usually targeting the technical user-base, in which case, tech-early-adopters and bloggers will have more value than Email marketing or MySpace/Facebook etc.

According to the second link, the images were taken at 1/10,000'th of a second (100us, AKA 1/10th of a ms), not a nanosecond which AFAIK was not possible back in Edgerton's day. 100us is probably the right number.

Every place I've run across has Descent of Angels as the penultimate worst in the series, closely followed by Legion. While Legion was interesting, it was drawn out and boring, or so the populist opinion goes. It also fell face flat on setting up an enormous event important to the fluff. Compared to these failures, ..Abyss was just a regular battle book which is, ironically, what Counter is best at.

I liked the Soul Drinkers series, however, I think it went awry in Chapter War.

Doe the title say "Battle of Calth?" No? Then why does everyone assume it must be Calth? I didn't like this book as much as I liked the Soul Drinkers, but I wouldn't call it the worst by far.

Horus, as a character, turns because he feels abandoned. Uh wow. Let's make a primarch, a god amongst men nearly, and then we'll forget to give the guy self-confidence? Although, I grant you, the character had to have some failing. But abandonment whilst on military campaigns is not abnormal. He's supposed to be a warrior. It makes me wonder who fostered the character and if anyone had ever served in the military or not.

"Descent.." was a disaster. While the background into the Dark Angels was very interesting, I do not think it should have ever been billed as a Heresy novel when it had, at best, only a tiny fraction. Construction of a legion was glossed over and we did not see anything as to what construction might have been like pre-Heresy.

"Legion" didn't expand the universe. It added a couple new characters and stuck on a "surprise" ending. That's not expansion. That's called selling. Until the last 10 pages or so, the book just had people running about trying to figure out what was going on, without a care about the audience. I'll grant the major revelation as to why the Alpha Legion broke is seriously interesting, but the rest of the book did not hinge on it.

"Fulgrim" blew. Fulgrim as a central character made no sense at all. First he's loyal, suddenly, he looks at a painting and changes. His entire turn takes only a few pages whereas Horus takes1.5 books and even then remains questionable. There is little, if any, cause as in other traitors, for Fulgrim to turn.

I do not see much on that list that wasn't already "cheaper" (relatively speaking). I mean, I don't see Vampire Counts Blood Knights at all for example. So this price drop is just **** in the wind. I guess it will help out Canadians a bit, which is cool, as I think those guys have been getting the shaft for way too long.

Even still though, with price hike today, I think it's the end times for me building anything remotely serious outside of the plastics. And with the rumors flagging around about plastics going up next year, who knows. I guess it is time to start looking seriously at recasting.

The sad part is the typical price for a 2nd Edition squad hits around $15.00 a miniature on Evil-Bay. Almost a waste of time trying to amass a complete army via that route.

The cheap route is conversion of Imp Guard. Glad you guys put some mention of this in there. Thing is, the only truly "different' aspect of the Arbites are the helmets.

That is typical Abnett. His endings are always hurried in some fashion. Calling him the "best" is debatable. What is up with the gravy train surrounding one author? Just how many fanboys can one author have?

As to the review - why is the story fascinating? Including facets from co-workers equals three-dimensions? Describe more. I'm not knocking the review, but it needs less flowery adjectives (ok, we get it, you liked it, that's fine) and more use of constructive examination. A suggestion might be to look at a minor plot scene and perhaps explore it a bit, the characters, what they feel at that given moment and describe what the author does that turns that scene into a masterpiece.

Great screencast, just from a security point of view when using paypal and having hidden inputs to store the data on the page in your example the hiking backpack was $50, if someone saved the webpage and then changed the hidden value to say $20 then submitted the form how will the backend know if the price they paid was the correct price or not? The paypal transaction will go through successfully but you will be short $30 what strategy can be used in this case?

I have tested several gps phones . Traveller is my next and I think I will be happy . As for gpssoftware on this one I wont use it at all , it is installed there so you have to pay more for it . Did you read requirements for this GPS software ?? That phone is on the way to me now and I allready know that I will not use its GPS software . I have garmin XT . As for dialing number , why wold you ? Just install vocie command and you are set . Or loose some weight and your fingers will be skinnier and you'll be able to dial ;o)

I think an enhanced Javascript can very well be the biggest threat to Silverlight. Javascript (if it is fast -- And hopefully it will be in the Google/Mozilla browsers, for a start) lets you create very rich apps without needing any plugin at all. That is a very very big selling point for Javascript.

Excel is just a terrible POS. Try opening an excel file with hundreds of images in it. You will die under the "Converting Metafile..." deluge, which cannot be stopped.

Applescripting Excel is horrible as well.

And just try setting table borders in Excel.

Not to mention: Try plotting data that have empty rows between them: Excel does NOT connect the points!!!!!

The much touted Pivot table of Excel is a total kludge (and yes, I know how to use it. It is unusable in many cases).

And don't get me started on how HORRIBLE, TERRIBLY WRONG Excel default plots are.

M$ Office is an abomination.

If you want to buy stuff, find a seller with a good reputation on eBay selling iTunes US gift cards, and buy one of those. They generally send the card code via email in a day or so. There is a surcharge - usually $5 - but if you buy a $50 card for $55 it's not so bad as a $10 card for $15. I've done this a couple of times.

Clojure and Scala are quite diffrent. You can do a lot stuff you do in Clojure in Scala, but also vice versa:

a "LISP" Programming languages has a very small Core this has also advantages and disadvanteages.

For the main-stream java programmer. It is already hard to get used to scala. Clojure involves a lot more think diffrent concepts. And most programmes don't like that, even though they don't tend to say it directly.

I would agree with a few things and won't with some other. First of all, I have read many articles all of which indicate that the problems you have specified in the beginning of your post are global (i.e., it's the field to blame and not Pakistan).

Secondly, unfortunately we aren't good in algorithms and computer science either. There is a general experssion of uneasiness shown by many programmers (including me) when you tell them to write, for instance, a tree control or a data grid. The first response is "can't we download it from somewhere?"

On the other hand, I totally agree with the promotion thing. People get promoted because they had x number of years of experience and now they deserve promotion. I would like to ask the management, "Is there a defined skill set for the next level in hierarchy?" "Has the other person shown the ability to take on the challenges?" By promoting a very good programmer (who doesn't exhibit good management skills) you are shooting yourself in the foot: you are acquiring a very bad manager and you are loosing a very good developer. I would rather advise to compensate the guy; give him a bonus; send him on a vacation; give him a free ticket to some resort; but please don't promote him.

Lastly, the quality of India vs. Pakistan is an interesting topic. IMHO, on average we are way ahead of India in terms of quality because a large number of substandard software houses exist in India. I may be wrong but my opinion is based on the projects that get re-directed to Pakistan from India because of low quality. I have seen a few companies trying to make sense out of Indian code. I, myself, however, never worked on any such thing.

If you ask me two basic activities that can tremendously help in improving the quality of work, they would be:

GJD - What evidence do you base your assertion on? I'm more inclined to trust the Post's journalism than your unsubstantiated claims. It's not to say everything that IKEA does is bad, efficient packaging comes to mind, but maybe, just maybe, they could be more conscious of where they source their wood.

OK, so if the voyeurism and long chats are your thing, then cool. He's about a strike and a half in my book based on the things you mentioned. Yes, you can learn a lot about someone - names, birthdays, random facts about their childhood - but the feelings / emotions have to come from meeting up in person. That's one thing that's much harder to fake in real life (and I've seen some guys try to pull that BS on me)...

I purposefully kept my BSNL DSL connection while I was testing waters with Tata Indicom. Thank God I kept it. This thing keeps disconnecting every 15 minutes and I need to switch off the modem for about 1 hour to have it connect again. Cant get a refund also. Have wasted 4 months worth of money. DONT GET TATA INDICOM.

RTP VC when I was working there the quality technical talent couldn't be matched. While some of them are still there, most have moved on to much greener pastures. If they've managed to keep hiring the same caliber of technical ability you'll do well to make sure they don't stay out of work long. You may have to fight people for them.

Curious,
Many people are using well known nicknames. At least to others at the company. Others have given more than enough information to make pretty good educated guesses. While folks may not be standing out for all to see, no one is hiding either.

Many of us are here because we know that the people actually doing the work at Motricity are good, hardworking and extremely talented people. When you've worked with a team that talented only to see it squandered by poor leadership, people have a right to be bitter. This is a hard time for the people still there and I don't blame them for venting to others who understand their position, without broadcasting their identities to the whole world. It wouldn't be representative of who they are day to day.

Besides I haven't read anything in this thread that I don't believe is true. The amazing thing is none of it sounds exaggerated either. Let them blow off some steam. Its a stressful time right now.

Not clear why everyone is aping Apple for the sake of it...
iPhone is a consumer device (right now) and an AppStore makes immense sense. Get the products out to a large populace, easily and cost-effectively where the consumer owns the device.
BB is not in that space and will never be. Their core strength is enterprise where the apps are dictated by the company which issues them. The IT departments probably went with BB for the control and security it provides and hence BB could be contradicting its own strategy by offering apps to be downloaded and installed.
Moreover, as a user would you spend personal money for apps to install on your corporate laptop? don't think so. So why would they do on the BB is baffling. Any app deemed useful for a company, will be standard issue from the IT. Period.

Negative. Opera compresses their exe's and dll's using a 3rd party tool (ASPack) to leave a smaller footprint. This has nothing to do with a "tighter codebase". If you were to compress Firebird's exe you will find that it comes out to about the same size.
