in 7 J-bloggers far from Japan on Rainbowhill Language Lab
Great list! I have had the pleasure of reading most of the sites mentioned and following many of these folks on twitter.

rainbowhill I made a point of including people that are on twitter, because, well they're easier to follow ;-)

Great to meet you in person Chris! Hopefully we'll get to do it again soon as I really enjoyed meeting the people behind some of my favorite blogs!

in How Many J-Bloggers Does it Take to Change a LightBulb? on Tofugu Comments
Thanks again for hosting the conference Koichi. It's great to see everyone so enthused about promoting each other and all of the great Japan content on the web.

Thanks for introducing The Nihon Sun Photo Gallery to your readers.

Reader submissions are welcome and that would include you Chris (and all you readers too if they have a great shot of Japan) :)

in Ueno on Nihongo Notes
I do like Ueno Park. Can you still buy food and feed the pigeons there? I have fond memories of doing that in the late 90's and even have a shot of my MIL looking horrified as one landed on her head but unfortunately it's not digital.

I had read about these before and they can be quite beautiful. I love it that Mythbusters used this Japanese art form to illustrate the point!

Lovely shot Gary. You can almost imagine the yokai popping out from under the bridge to scare travelers...

Very nice overview of the city Chris. I couldn't agree more about the food - it's just great!

in Where’d all the activity go? on Nihongo Notes
Let me just say that I can understand the lack of posts. I've been neglecting my personal blog for a while now too and am planning to kick it off again with my own post to the Japan Blog Matsur.

Sometimes life just gets in the way ;)

in Learning Japanese: Kana on Nihongo Notes
I taught myself katakana first as I knew I could test myself on my understanding by reading many of the advertisements and product names in Japan. However, I think that you are on to something by learning hiragana first - I wish I had done it that way :)

I haven't even tackled Kanji yet.

in Boring lunch beaten by bento on Nihongo Notes
Impressive. I have been known to make bento out of dinner left-overs too! Somehow when you take the time to prepare a bento, even if it's from leftovers, the food seems to taste better. I still have a hard time with room temperature food that is 'supposed' to be hot though.

in Sanja Matsuri (Three Shrine Festival) in Asakusa, Tokyo on Nihongo Notes
What a great introduction to Tokyo! I might try to attend next year but the crowds intimidate me although I've never had a problem with them. People are very polite, for the most part, in Tokyo.

Glad to hear that you were treated fairly. But isn't this your second traffic incident? First a wipe-out and then a ticket....I'd be careful if I were you things like this come in threes ;)

in Gangsta Cleaning on Rocking in Hakata
That's amazing Deas! I find some of the music that is popular here in Japan a little annoying but it is definitely better that gangsta rap. It's amazing that your administrator didn't do anything???

I'm not sure about now but many years ago they did not have ratings on the cd's in the stores here like they have at home and I let my step-son but a CD that I ended up banishing to his personal CD player because of the language. If we were in the US I would have made him return it or, because of the warning label, never purchased it for him in the fist place!

Deas, glad that you are OK and sorry to hear about all of the stuff you'll have to replace but it's just stuff, you are still with us!

Here's a good 'made up battle story' for you. My Dad has a scar on his belly that he used to tell us kids that he got in a sword fight. I believe him for a long time and thought he was so brave - turned out it was the scar from having his gallbladder removed!
