in An open letter of thanks to Clickatell’s Peter de Villers on Mobile Industry Review
Hey Ewan,

Sorry to hear they dropped the sponsorship - what a bust. This has always been a good place to be, so I find it strange that they would pull out. Perhaps they feel the campaign has reached a level where exposure has kind of peaked. Perhaps it is now marginally diminishing? Very difficult to establish that though, in fact it's impossible.

I'm sure there are a lot of factors in play though, and I doubt very much that the monthly sponsorship was the issue. Although, there is basically an entire new marketing team, and they might feel differently regarding web- advertising as a whole... Who knows.

But if they start measuring in clicks only, I seriously doubt the competency of the team. As any online campaign needs to be in certain areas to increase immeasurable exposure..... Sometimes the gut-feel is what you need to listen to, and not the numbers :)

in Tea, tea bag on Just Food Now
@ African Vanilje - I have had Origin coffee, splendid indeed! I work just down the road from there :)

@ Malik J Fernando - I have seen the Dilmah tea in Pick 'n Pay, however, I bought the Woolworths tea purely because Woolworths is right down the road from where I stay... I won't make that mistake again :) If ever you feel like sending test product, don't hesitate :) heheheh. Good luck with your future in SA.

I stopped drinking tea regularly, because the I no longer have a steady supply of Dilmah tea. Woolworths SA has the worst tea in the world (their own brand).

It's terrible... To be honest, I'm not a fundi when it comes to tea, but I can definitely understand with your notion here, and agree.

You have to admit though, a teabag does take a whole lot of trouble out of making tea :) Convenience sells better than sex.

in Signs of a maturing web? on Uno de Waal
"You used to be able to build Facebook as a one man show, but that was, what, almost 4 years ago? Facebook now has in the region of 500 employees."

You have to start somewhere don't you. You might as well be saying that small companies will no longer grow into empires, or that one man shows could ever become small companies. It's quite obvious that if you start in a garage and expect to compete with Google, you will need the resources to scale, however, if you start in a garage and the market you are entering is relatively untapped or new, then scaling is more natural, as Google was.

I feel a bit that you are stating the obvious in a roundabout way, except for putting an enterprise hat on innovation, and therefore I disagree. It is now the time that I believe a large part of any company's innovation shall come from outside of the company, not through acquisition either, purely through sharing and collaborating. Growin together with the market.

Procter & Gamble is a good example of this.

disagree. Facebook - one man show.
Twitter- not profitable
Pownce - not profitable
Ning - not even nearly what facebook or myspace is
Perhaps in a country as SA this holds some truth, but not for long either.

in Synthasite to launch Beta on Guy Fawkes Day! on Vinny Lingham's Blog
Sorry Ian, not talking about a desktop app. I'm talking about something similar to Wordpress & Movable Type. A downloadable version to install on your own domain.

I was specifically referring to the following pointer:

"2) You will be able to download your website, and host it on your own domain and server (and edit the PHP code if you so choose)"
