Electric bikes are really cool and efficient along with good for the environment.

Re: OhGizmo! » Archive » EEStor Ultracapacitor: 5 Minutes To Charge, 500 Miles Per Charge

I'd be glad to test these in my EV and report back on the real world performance. %K doesn't seem too high a price.
Fast charging would be a hugh demand on peak power on the grid and transformers. I hope people won't start charging during peak hours !!

Re: Renewable Energy Series Preview - KJZZ 91.5 FM - Your NPR News Station

Great topic. Please include people like me who don't work for the utility or get paid 100K as a coporation commission member.
They didn't mention the huge incentives we give to coal, natural gas and nuclear. In fact nuclear is the higest cost power in the world. The G8 summit calaculated it at 50 cents a kilowatt hour !
Also no one mentioed the huge water use to make energy from colar NG and nuclear.

I run my home on grid tied solar and actually help the power company. Look at the California LUZ thermal solar plants. We need some utilities with vision.

We have giga watts of ecess power at night becuase you can't ramp up or down fossil fuel and nuclear plants.

Also look at the pollution make from the technologies. There is so much mercury in the environment we can eat fish. We have smog and global warming. What are they doing with nuclear waste that is deadly for thosands of years. Look at all the cost and renewables are very low cost.

Jim

Re: Renewable Energy Products

I add a grid tied solar system to my home in 2001. I also asked for nte-metering and got it for the whole area in 2004. My power utility pays me some months. Most months I only pay 20-30 bucks and live in the Phoenix AZ area. Solar is my only fuel for Air Cond and Heat.
It green and saves me money. I installed it my self. nice hack of my energy bills

Re: New York Offers 50% Solar Subsidy, East Coast Takes Lead in PV | Solar Feeds News and Commentary Blog Network

too bad they don't have much sun in NYS. I used to live there and wind is much better than solar. A hybrid wind-solar system would be best.

Re: Information About Honda's 2006 Civic Hybrid

I get 50-60 mpg in my 03 CIVIC Hybrid. I wish the new one was pligin compatable like the Prius.

The backseat really should fold down like the normal CIVIC. I also want a button to auto stop the engine after I have to slip ahead 5 feet at a light and it starts idling again. I'll test drive the 06 and see how it has progressed.

Jim

Re: Information About Honda's 2006 Civic Hybrid

Peter, Sorry the Honda can not be made plugin like the Prius. With Honda they only assist with the battery electric, it can't move without the gas engine like a Prius can.

The option for a Prius is only because it can run on electric alone, so can the other Toyotas and FORD Escape.

SOmeday Honda may make a Hybrid that can go on electric alone ,but for now assist is great but not quite and adaptable as full electric as Toyota did.

Jim jstack6@juno.com

Re: Bought a Prius for Environmental Reasons? The New York Times Needs Your Help

A prius reduces air pollution by running the gas motor in otto cycle, reduces brake wear and dust with regenerative braking and uses less gas.

I drive like I care and get 50-80 mpg.

The new 2008 version will soon have lithium batteries. no heavey metal in those batteries and oh, by the way tests show 90 mpg. Some makers of these advanced lithium safer batteries are looking at 100K to 200K warrenties or 10 to 20 years.

Another great item on the prius is the useful space. I could never fit so many things in regular cars, split folding seats are very versitle.

Re: Electric Car Capital: Oslo, Stocholm, Tel Aviv?

Nice vehicle, very practical.

I've also just read on EVworld.com that GE have invested in TH!NK and A123 lithium batteries. Also that the TH!NK will now use the A123 battereis.

This could be a big move.
