in Grassley on Health Care on The Mediavore
You know why I am certain a public plan would be great for me.?
Because every member of Congress has one.
And you know that members of Congress aren’t going to stand for anything less than the best for them and their families.
If it’s good enough for Congress…It’s good enough for me.
I find it humorous to listen to folks like Senator Grassley rail against a public plan when you and I pay for $75 dollars out of every $100 dollars of HIS healthcare premiums
Go to youtube and watch how defensive he got when a member of the audience asked him about that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzZwAhuqzAw
His answer will just kill you!!!

in Supreme Court Rules for New Haven, Ct., White Firefighters over Promotions, Rules Against Nominee Sonia Sotomayor's Appeals Court Endorsement on Black Political Thought
When it comes to racial preferences, it's not always the whites who are the wronged party.
Recently The University of California changed it's admission policy for all 9 of it's campuses.
Flooded by Asian students who tend to do better than whites on test scores and school grades, the US regants decided to downplay the importance of tests and grades in their admission policy
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/economy/ap/48...
"I like to call it affirmative action for whites," said Ling-chi Wang, a retired professor at UC Berkeley. "I think it's extremely unfair to Asian-Americans on the one hand and underrepresented minorities on the other."
The new policy would eliminate the requirement that applicants take two SAT subject tests and reduce the number of students guaranteed admission based on grades and test scores alone. It takes effect for the freshman class of fall 2012.

in Matthew 5:10 Syndrome on Dream Not Of Today
Killing Tiller was the right thing to do. It was a mission from God
Years of protest in front of Tiller’s abortion clinic failed miserably compared to the bullet that put this baby killer where he belongs
This is proof that the only way to solve the abortion problem is to protect innocent lives through whatever means necessary. Who wouldn’t hesitate to use force to protect their family from harm? Then why should innocent babies not have the same protection?
Let’s be realistic. It has been over 30 years since abortions were made legal in the US. And we are no closer to ending abortions today than we were back then. People can protest, march, carry signs, write their congressmen….but it’s all a waste of time.
Babies continue to day everyday.
The only way to stop the killing is to stop the killers.
If it weren’t for the brave act of one man to rid the world of Tiler, that abortion clinic would be performing more baby killings right this very minute. Instead, by putting the evil doer away, the clinic is now closing forever!!!
Mission accomplished!!

in President Obama Notre Dame commencement speech on BlackPoliticsontheWeb.com
I was impressed by Obama's willingness to find common ground on the issue of abortion.
Working to create conditions that would make abortions unnecessary would have broad support by both sides of the issue.
Better to find area where we can all agree on and work together, rather than shout at each other through megaphones and call each other "baby killers" and "Taliban freaks"
When no one listens it' a waste of time to discuss.
Over the past few years there have been too many issues that have divided are nation: abortion, the war, taxes, etc.
We are like oarsmen in the same boat...all rowing in different directions.

in Obama gunning for the Second Amendment on WesternFront America
Gun rights supporters are all wet. “Arms” under the constitution and the weapons of mass destruction that can be bought freely at any corner gun shop 300 years later.. are not the same. The founding father were describing a weapon that could fire only one projectile before having to undergo a laborious 1 minute reloading process. Not exactly the type of weapon a crazed cop killer or mass murderer would choose to employ. The founding father's could never imagine that one day we would invent a weapon that could give one crazy cop killer the firepower of an entire army.
I am sure that In future weapons developers will think up creative ways to arm the tips of automatic weapons with nuclear tipped bullets and massive exploding warheads that the NRA will want to label “arms” and that can be legally purchased by terrorists at local gun shows
It would make it that much easier for terrorists to achieve their goals..given that the NRA is opposed to the governments efforts to bar suspected terrorists from purchasing “arms” at your local gun shop.

in Pope Benedict XVI Decries "Clouds of Evil" Over Africa that Spawned War, Tribalism, Ethnic Rivalry on Black Political Thought
John Paul the First, who revealed in a public audience in 1978:
“. . . this morning, I flushed my toilet with a solid gold lever edged with diamonds and at this very moment, bishops and cardinals are using a bathroom on the second floor of the papal palace which trappings, I am told, would draw more than fifty million dollars at auction . . . Believe me, one day, we who live in opulence, while so many are dying because they have nothing, will have to answer to Jesus as to why we have not carried out His instruction, ‘Love thy neighbor as thyself.’ We, the clergy of the Church together with our congregations, who substitute gold and pomp and ceremony in place of Christ’s instruction, who judge our masquerade of singing His praises to be more precious than human life, will have the most to explain.
Too bad this new pope can't practice what he preaches

in Michael Steele Explains the Free Market to Stephanopoulus on Why Mommy is a Republican
There really is no FREE MARKET. It's really a CONTROLLED MARKET. Instead of Government setting the price...Business set the price.
Take this for example
A weekly report from the Energy Information Administration showed that crude oil inventories jumped by 4.7 million barrels for the week ended Feb. 6. That easily surpassed the expectations of analysts surveyed by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos., who expected a boost of 3.4 million barrels.
Including last week's build up, crude inventories have increased by more than 30 million barrels in the past five weeks.
Yet prices at the pump continue to rise? Why?
Because Refiners took in 214,000 fewer barrels of crude last week and gasoline production fell, the EIA reported.
The companies that own refineries are seeing the same dour headlines about job losses, and have slashed production as they "try to match supply with demand."
Actually, the "free market" is actually a myth. There is no free market.
Sellers know that buyers have to have gasoline. So even though there are millions of gallons of unrefined oil filling up storage units all over the country and causing the price of oil to plummet, refineries know they can keep the price of gasoline up by limiting the amount they refine. Better to refine less oil and sell high, than to refine lots of oil and sell low.
Same goes for cell phone service. Much cheaper in Asia because there's lots of companies vying for your business. While in the US, all the cellular companies have just about the same plans, same two year contracts.
Same goes for healthcare in the US. Much cheaper in Asia where competition among hospitals is fierce and prices are 1/10th what they are in the US
Markets in the US are not free. They are controlled.

in Bachmann’s Sleight of Hand on The Washington Independent
While Bachman wants people to start investing Obama and members of Congreess for their anti American connections, Michelle has been paling around with an ex felon , who contributed big money to her campaign and now, turns out, has been hoodwinking investors in a Ponzi scheme. Her efforts to , at first, secure a pardon for the felon....then later withdrawing it when he was found to be bilking unsuspecting investors ties her to criminal elements.
These connections should be investigated. I think someone should investigate the criminal connections between Bachmann and Vennes.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Powell did not make any accusations as far as I can tell. I guess to him, Republicans are shifting right. I guess only he knows if he believes that. I suppose he does since he said it. I don't see any accusation there, just an opinion (and considering the rightward shift of the Republican party, I think he is right!)
As for your overly sensitive remark, I can only say I don't know what you mean. Bachmann called members of Congress unAmerican. I think that is over the top. I guess, from your comment, that you don't.
Enjoy the Obama presidency! I know I will!

Why would it be unacceptable if Colin Powell WAS endorsing Barack Obama because of race?
CPL
Colin Powell has a POINT. And a wingnut like Michele Bachmann is losing her congressional seat because people are tired of wingnut shyt.
Bachmann also proves Powell's case for his allegations and literally helped to write his rationale for endorsing Obama in a reasoned, articulate and nuanced way while providing well placed bitch slaps upside the heads of Bachmann and Palin.
He basically also told the GOP to stop their outreach efforts to recruit more minorities into the party because no one's going where they're going to be treated like runaway slaves, and he's refusing to be used as the slave catcher to get us in.
The best opportunity they had to get Black people in the party was back in 2000, when Powell speculated about a run for the White House. Too bad they were too racist to even capitalize on THAT. Every time the GOP has an opportunity to take out the Democratic Party on representation, if their opportunity hinges on a person of color, they usually take a pass - their bigotry is THAT INGRAINED into the fabric of their beings.
Sarah Palin is a perfect example of that. She managed to set back women's accomplishments 50 years - even the GOP women are pissed they have to go back to the back of the bus and START OVER.
Thanks for playing - we got nice parting gifts for you...

in Who’s trying to steal the election? on WhackArnolds: Technology, Politics, Pop Culture, Life commentary
Conservatives need to send a message to the idiots running the McCain campaign that they don't know what they are doing and that they are causing McCain to lose this election.
Just because they engineered a victory for George Bush doesn't mean they can use the same old tactics to fight off Obama.
This isn't 2000 or 2004.
There's just 3 weeks left
If they can't get a cohesive campaign together they're going to go down as the gang who couldn't shoot straight.
