Amazing how bitter some are about stuff that doesn't matter. For one, if you have a grandfathered plan like Bill48105 please feel free to add the other three lines. No relevance to you. You do NOT have to switch to these plans. If you like yours you can keep it. Add lines to it. Add features. Get new phones with contracts. Whatever you want. I checked and did that for one of my accounts.

Even More Plus is substantially cheaper than other carriers. Remember the Unlimited Talk Text and Web is with Smartphones. You cannot compare how much your paying for your RAZR. If you are using a feature phone you choose the Unlimited Talk and Text and add 10 for internet or don't. Unless you have a loyalty plan or buddy time these are cheaper than what you have.

Additionally for Even More Plus figure out how much it will save you. myTouch. Unlimited for 99.99 and phone for 150 = 2550. Plus. Unlimited for 79.99 and phone for 400 = 2320. It is a substantial savings. Subsidies sound cheap but are not in the end.

Lastly people who are on T-Mobile already and have an old plan or a Loyalty plan, THESE ARE NOT FOR YOU! These are designed to take customers from ATT and VZW. You already have a great plan, enjoy. They already took care of you. If you want to switch go to Billshrink.com and compare. Pretty sure you will find that your plan is cheaper. T-Mobile is changing the game but removing subsidies. No more FREE phones because they never were free. Buy your phone like you do a car or most any other electronic device, then pick the service to go with it.

Good stuff. I saved 2200 dollars by switching from ATT. iPhones are pretty, not that pretty.

Whoever posted its $50 unlimited everything made these look bad, but if you just break them down they are great. $50 everything is for people who want Nextels old network and 2G data. Out of the Big 4 T-Mobile is now the best easily and Sprint at 2. Plus if you hate them you don't have a contract so you can leave. I feel good knowing that they will make my coverage and Service solid, that is the only thing that binds me.

Its is amazing how much everyone is missing. There is not a single plan in T-Mobiles current set-up that is more advantageous. Unlimited minutes for 79.99 for two lines is fantastic. Everyone is sharing what they have and then comparing to the unlimited talk text and web packages. If your not using a smartphone today then you are comparing pricing incorrectly. myFaves works great for some but would you rather have 600 minutes and myfaves for 49.99 or unlimited.

The 200 minute idea for family is brilliant. You either add a line to the unlimited plan that gives you unlimited for 30 or you add 200 minutes for only 10. Some people have kids that don't need unlimited minutes. Add them for cheaper. Wait till its all done and add up your costs today and then do even more plus. It will save you money. For sure. Its substantially cheaper than the other carriers.

The reason the "time on site" statistic is deceptive is primarily because there are many new users that are not avid users. They generally fall into older demographics and want to see what this Facebook thing is. If there was research done on a specific set of users (between 13 and 25) the results would be very different. You can't take a sample set of that size and expect clean results.

I was never aligned with any of the 'tea-' anything movement (despite being addicted to actual tea), but also opposed the bailout. It reminded me too much of when Enron looted the California treasury via the PG&E 'bailout'.

MR. INIGO WILSON:

As a Community Affairs Manager for an international telecoms group with a presence around the globe, Mr. Wilson is extremely naïve to believe that posting such comments on a prominent website would not invoke a hostile response.

Having considered the facts, Mr. Wilson must be dismissed by his employer for the following reasons:

(1) Whilst we should all uphold freedom of speech, that freedom must be exercised responsibly. Following the official definition of racism, Mr. Wilson’s comments can clearly be defined as racist. They may also be an incitement to racial hatred. As such, there may be grounds for a criminal prosecution.

(2) His comments may be regarded as offensive to a variety of communities including followers of Islam, Palestinians, South Africans and Roman Catholics. As such, in addition to being considered racist in the former (presumably a breach of his terms of employment), he will be unable to effectively carry out his duties in fostering good relations with such groups, thus further breaching his terms of employment.

(3) His comments may be regarded as offensive to other groups such as teachers, social workers, employees of NGO’s, those who would describe themselves as socialists and so forth. Indeed his views are not exclusively offensive to these groups, and may be considered offensive to all those who espouse tolerance and respect – from all communities and all walks of life. This further enforces the breach of terms of employment raised above.

(4) The author appears to condone racism by asserting to be a racist is deemed as being “much worse than being violent, thoughtless or unkind” - placing him at odds with his employer and contract of employment.

(5) This is added to by his comments on hate crime.

(6) Wilson’s comments in relation to equality, diversity and gender issues will likewise be at odds with his employer and breach his contract of employment.

(7) Responsible, I read, for consultation with communities, Mr. Wilson describes same as “a formal system for ignoring public views while patronising them at the same time.” This statement places him at odds with his employer and his duties, thus again breaching his contract of employment.

(8) Comments relating to the BBC and media ensure relationships in this area are likewise compromised, thus breaching terms of employment.

The above, combined, ensure Mr. Wilson will be unable to continue to perform the duties of his role. By HIS actions, (many of which will counter his employers’ policies) HE ALONE has made himself unable to fulfil his role and thus contract of employment with Orange.

Remember, it was Mr. Wilson who indirectly referenced his employer by his introduction: “Inigo Wilson manages community affairs for a large telecoms company.” He also made comments in relation to both a colleague and a discussion within his organisation.

Again, whilst we all should seek to uphold freedom of _expression, such _expression must be exercised responsibly and within the legal framework of the UK. What is remarkable is that such a prominent and educated figure did not recognise the above, and how his comments would be interpreted by others (the key legal factor), regardless of the context in which they were intended.

It is also regrettable that because of his action, his employer, Orange, is now at the centre of a debate on which it has no desire to enter. Here Orange cannot win. Its actions will be no different to any other organisation caught in the same position – Vodafone, 02 or others. To think otherwise is foolhardy.

What is certain is that the reputation of his employer, its brand, customer relations and commercial activity will be damaged regardless of the outcome – further strengthening the requirement to dismiss Mr. Wilson.

Sadly the future looks bleak for not only Mr. Wilson, but for his employer, good community relations and all those who recognise greater understanding, mutual respect and humanity are the only future for our world.

In addition to Andrew's comment, I (and many others) do not appreciate students coming to school while they're sick. It happens constantly due to the 4-day absence protocol and it's a health risk I'd rather not take with such a contagious virus circulating. Until the H1N1 virus is under control, student's should definitely be encouraged to stay home and out of public spaces while recovering from the flu, with the option to work from home and not be penalized.

A client of mine who runs an adult blog has a Twitter account. We've had to block various real kids (and lots of fundie Christians, hilariously) who use scripts to autofollow thousands to get thousands of followers in return.

Twitter simply doesn't have the child-protection controls yet to allow your kids to have accounts. Don't let them on.

Or worse, I am now an hourly employee except I pay them. And it's a flat fee rather than by the hour. If I am now hourly and tracked by the hour, I should be paying by the hour as well. I'll clock in and out for hours that I thought I was getting adequate teaching. Days where I am not able to function at school do to failed equipment or inadequate preparation on the school's part should not be hours I am paying for.

This is ridiculous. This is a college where I pay to attend, not a work environment where I am paid to be. "Way of dress needs to be neat." No, they say slacks and dress shirts minimum. I work in an professional environment, in a job that my degree would not qualify me for without a few more years of experience behind it.

Charter needs to focus on education as it's primary goal, not the appearance of it's students. The college is getting a reputation in the community as a worthless degree. I have been here a couple years now and no longer feel I am learning as the facility to do so does not exist any longer.

Robert Feldstein is just going to have to get over his "great loss," and find someone else to play with. Judging from the crowd of folks who showed up to give their support to the victim, there are plenty of members of the "chess community" who are relieved to see Wamala brought to justice.

Wamala really showed his true colors at the end of that hearing. You should have heard him dredge up as many memories as he could of times that his daughter lied to him in childhood (doubtless terrified of the consequences of angering her tyrannical father). After he rambled on for over a half hour in this vein -- tossing in quotes from John Locke and Thomas Jefferson to make himself sound like a true scholar and victim of a great injustice -- the judge eventually gave him a ten-minute deadline to finish up, then threw the book at him. It was quite refreshing, and his use of the word "balony" quite quaint.

The comments below are part of what is wrong with Nashua. It is one city. Why is there such a right side and wrong side of the tracks mentality in this city? Take a ride around - it is a very small place, and ignoring the issues and pretending it is a Tree Streets and French Hill issue is absurd.

The issue is not about welfare and lack of pride of onwer ship. People own all of the properties in these areas - and the owners choose not to maintain and upgrade the properties. Not the tenants. And the city allows and if not encourages it by not enforcing land use and building codes. Some of the properties are effectively tenements.

And for the record, take a ride around some of the more "affluent" areas. Are cars parked in the front yard, and poorly maintained properties showing pride of ownership? This city has a HUGE number of properties that are simply not maintained - and not just in French Hill and the Tree Streets.

Look beyond this topic - at the legislation. The bigger point is the legislation is inneffective. Why are we settling for a failed solution again? This is the best the Alderman can offer? It is typical of so much of what is done in Nashua. Half solutions, inneffective solutions, and time wasted on more of the same.

Stop listening to a vocal minority. stop catering to a vocal few and LEAD. That is why you were elected.

There is no simple anser to this issue, nor most others facing this city, but you were not elected to produce this kind of nonses legislation.

How about funding the Police Department, the Fire Department, the Building Department, and Public Works, enforce existling legislation that works and clean up neighborhoods by forcing slum lords to maintain their properties?! We can't even get people to clean sidewalks in this city.

What a difference a few housing inspectors might make, and more police, and the enforcement of building and housing regulations.

Stop wasting time on Pennichuck, and debating the merit of the Broad Street Parkway. Either vote them up or down and move on. Get to the serious issues, have a reasonable debate and pass effective legislation.

This needs to stop.

Brian is absolutely right. I live on Concord Street and the last time the city has cleared the sidewalks around here was on the snowfall during the first week in December. I find it incredible that the city finds the time to clear not only downtown, but also areas that make little sense, due to the lack of home on those streets (such as the sidewalks adjacent to the cemetery on Amherst Street). Also, calling the city is useless. So who the hell are we to turn to to get the city to do their job?

According to the transcript from a meeting of the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, the Arnett Development Group LLC, was "re-started in 2006" and is "currently has a contract with Vital Economy, Inc. Vital Economy has a record of successfully assisting distressed, rural communities to grow their economies appropriately and sustainable. Vital Economy has been contracted by FairPoint Communications to design and deliver an innovative economic development initiative for New Hampshire should the sale occur."

So, should we believe the words from an individual who certainly appears to be the paid mouthpiece of Fairpoint Communications?

Also, we might want to ask, is the editor policy of The Telegraph preventing us from knowing the above information, so that the general public cannot make an informed decision on the sale of out telephone landlines to Fairpoint?

I fully agree with you.
For instance, Vermont gave the green light to the Verizon sale when they agreed to a deal with Fairpoint, only after Fairpoint agreed to $40 million a year in infrastructure improvements to bring high speed access throughout Vermont.
Considering the sorry shape of rural telephone infrastructure, in general, in northern New England, $40 million a year may not be enough to bring high speed access to anywhere but a fraction of Vermont residents. Also, how committed do you think - just in Vermont - Fairpoint will be two, three or five years down the road - I don't think they will be very committed. I could very well see them wanting to bail out - i.e. sell to another telecom concern - in a short amount of time, thus starting the cycle of selling to the lowest (and, most likely underfunded) investor.
So, even if New Hampshire opts for a Vermont-style deal, how long do you think it will be before Fairpoint bails out on our state?
How about this Mr. Arnett?

Alex, I agree with you sentiments.

But, we also have to say that we are part of the problem in this mess.

A big component of FIOS is the ability to bring video to your home - i.e. cable television. But, to do this, Verizon has to negotiate separate deals with hundreds of municipalities (of all sizes and shapes) throughout New Hampshire.

This deal making has created an unwieldy mess for Verizon, adding to the profitability of upgrading to FIOS and conducting business in New Hampshire, in general.

Until New Hampshire residents get the outdated notion of local (i.e. individual municipalities) interests are paramount, instead of thinking on a statewide (or, at the very least, a county-wide) basis, New Hampshire will continue to be left behind, no more than a rural backwater state.

Changing this is not going to be easy in a state in which every small-minded political (and business) hack thinks his/her obligations end at one's town line.

We have to think big - i.e. statewide. This means changing our laws - that's right, a constitutional amendment to turn over more local control to the state. Not very easy with a New Hampshire house with over 400 members and a state with 195 legislative districts, and certainly not very easy in a state with a populace that lives and breaths rugged individuality.

So until we get past the outdated notion of rugged individuality in this state, I see little to hope in avoiding a future of New Hampshire being little more than a rural backwater.

Thankfully the new board demonstrated leadership, and gently put Alderman Teeboom in his place. His comments and actions are a disgrace. There are serious issues facing this city, and Alderman Teeboom is an insult, and distraction to getting things done. If someone had not reigned him in what real business could get done?

Fred, we don't want to hear your rantings. You often do not make sense and are a divisive, negative force. People like you exist everywhere but eventually people get fed up, and they end up marginalized. Thankfully it happened here.

Please, look around you Fred. This is an economically, socially and politcally diverse city. You represent an obnoxious minority. You may think you are helping, but you are an ambarrasment to those that are genuinely educated, and when you present your issues, weather they have merit or not - becuase they are presented by you you do more harm then good.

Please, sit in the back row and be quite this year. You are not needed, nor wanted by many city residents, unless of course there are no reality shows on MTV when channel 16 is broadcasting. - an then you are really fun to watch, if only to see what antics you try next. The only sad part is your actions, and effect on the Board of Alderman has real consequence.

I think you missed the point. This is about perception, and unecessary media coverage with a biased point of view.

Why jump on the bandwagon with unfounded negative press?

Homes in the Nashua area are very affordable, and the area could in fact see an increase in activity by buyers that could afford more, but choose to be conservative in their purchases.

If homes in the Nashua area begin to sell slower and depreciate from the false perception that homes here are overpriced and forclosures are on the rise, we have much much bigger issues then the credit crunch.

Home here are about as affordable as can be found anywhere, even factoring the substantial rennovation costs required of most of the older and relatively dated housing stock that is prevelant here.

The best thing people could do to help Nashua is maintain and upgrade your properties. Fix the roof, paint the house and make your property look cared for. it is contagious, and helps not only you, but the entire neighborhoods home values.

This type of "reporting" is typical of what we get from this so-called "newspaper," such as:

* lazy, fluff pieces, such as the article on snow removal in today's paper and the piece on Mayor Lozeau's first day in office in the January 13th edition

* a consistent lack of a nose for news which any first year journalism student or reasonably alert citizen could spot.

* the unwillingness to fact check their stories

* the willingness to print anything, no matter how misleading, such as Stuart T. Arnett's letter in the January 12th edition

But, then again, the management of this "newspaper" does not seem to care what it prints.

There seems to be a prevalent assumption by the management that the reading public tolerates or even trusts the reporting in this paper.

The insulting attitude by the management of this paper is little more than a continuation of outdated ivory tower mentality that arbitrarily dismisses concerns of its "reporting" because everyone, but them, are little more than nutcase "conspiracy theorists," as indicated not only in today editorial, but also in other recent editorials, such n their 14 January editorial which dismissed concerns of alleged problems with the Diebold optical scanner voting machines.

Is it any wonder that such a bunker mentality, as The Telegraph exhibits, that newspapers - a needed and vital source in our democracy - continue to lost lose trust and readership.

I think the change should also be for the 55 limit on Route 3 near Nashua. No one ever seems to drive it at that speed anyways (not that that is a reason to change the law). Currently, in my experience I've found Route 3 (at a posted limit of 55) to be a faster highway than 495 (at a posted limit of 65) during non-trafficked optimal driving conditions.

Why are more people not upset by the conduct of this meeting last night. Instead of acting on the proposal at hand, the alderman introduced discussion effectively endorsing an incinerator in Nashua, and the potential for the import of substantial amounts of trash to make it financially viable !!!

The Alderman showed their ignorance, discussing this issue - and not even appearing to realize it is an issue of regional impact, will substantially impact property values, and requires quite a bit more study than reacting to a public comment - on a topic they clearly just do not understand.

I would like to hear the alderman speak intelligently on the Consent Decree that Nashua entered into agreeing to bring the sanitary sewer and storm system up to current standards and what it will cost to implement, and how this correlates to the boondoggle of the Pennichuck acquisition attempts.

In all seriousness, how can we as a city neglect to maintain and upgrade our sanitary sewer system and stormwater management, effectively polluting the rivers and groundwater, and on the other hand imply that we need control of the water system? ! ?

It is all one ecosystem, and we will end up with control of a water system that relies on surface ponds, but we do not seem to care about the effects of pollution from an Incinerator, and dont seem to have a clue that stormwater and sanitary sewers pollute the environment and the very water we are trying to protect when mismanaged.

And as far as contracts go, can you imagine the Alderman attempting to regulate the salaries of the professionals that will be required to manage this type of infrastructure? We cannot do it. We will end up with management born in Nashua, with no experneince beyond the local environment - for a bargain price. But will they be up to the task? I doubt it. And will they have a contract? I doubt it.

but we will certainly have some great public tv to watch as they alderman endlessly debate the same nonsense.

It is time to reorganize the way Nashua is run. Like it or not, no matter what side you represent, this city is run by nice people, who are simply unable to represent a city of this size, and bring complex negotiations to conclusion. This is not just the teachers contracts. There are far too many issues that just do not get resolved, or are resolved poorly.

Think about a professional city manager or other form of government that gives people a voice, but does not let the cycle of deadlock linger year after year.

Let the Alderman keep their chamber so they can go on Channel 16 and ham it up for the camera, but hire a professional that can comprehend the city bidget, recognize the regional issues and impact this city has and get the work done.

This joke has gone on for too long.

The city of Nashua needs to seriously look at eliminating the Board of Alderman and Mayoral system and move to a professional city manager. Glad for all the help from the locals, but not many can even comprehend the magnitude of the city budget and how to manage this city in the context of representing all of the residents, our place in the state and region, and in compliance with the ever growing regulatory, environmental and growth issues we face daily.

This is not the Board of Alderman that people join to get their streer plowed first, or paved first and to get on TV every other week on Channel 16.

Look at the Consent Decree Nashua entered into for violations of the Clean Water Act. This is a city that does not function well - and ignores issue for decades and thinks it is o.k. Look at the Broad Street Parkway. Look at the Pennichuck Issues, and Look at the contract, among others.

What is missing is the ability to get things done and bring them to conclusion.

Shame on all of you for continuing this sharade. You are helping no one.

You confuse religion with belief.
I believe that there is no God. That is what I believe. I don't lack any belief on the subject, I lack a positive belief in the existence of god. To say that I just have no belief in it either way is absurd.

However, atheism is not a religion. We don't congregate or organize (if we do, it is to do things that don't involve religion and we just happen to all be atheist). WE have no structure to our belief that god doesn't exist.

Belief is a mental state with either a poisitive or negative value. Not beieving in dragons or magic or God is a negative belief for me. Religion is an organizational strucuture based on the positive belief in a God or other supernatural being. And all religions share some such positive belief You observe your religion, not your belief. Any of your behavior regarding your belief has been instated by your religion.

As for there being religion before there was atheism, that's tricky ground. I believe the universe is more than a few thousand years old and that belief in god is a human creation. Therefore, belief in God couldn't've shown up before the arrival of humans or their ancestor. If you belief that god created adam and eve, then you'll think that religion came first, because God has always existed in your opinion.

i'm not going to make any attempt to disprove your beliefs, but i will say that biologically all thinking creatures are predisposed to belief in religion. This is because learning is a prediction of cause and effect. In general, God is an explanation for that which is hard to explain through logic. We use God to explain why the sun rises, where we go when we die, the point of life, and how the brain (or soul) works. We don't use God to explain why a lightbulb turns on or how a carburator works. When the effect is difficult to explain, that's where God comes in to play. Since many pre-human animals can learn, and thus create mental explanations for things they don't understand, it is conceivable to me that religion does predate mankind.

I've been lurking around Decknique for at least 2, maybe 3 years now, and I don't plan on joining the forums anytime soon -- I don't like where things are going.

The nature of our art (sort of "show-off" oriented) brings up some cocky attitude in a lot of people. I expect nothing less. A good amount of members in weight-training forums have the attitude of "i'll kick your ass" when any post is anything less than inspirational. Our hobby strikes up cocky and overly-confident attitudes, and people with cocky attitudes tend to be more active on this forum. An attitude change of our entire art needs to change, it's not just Decknique. The reason why Decknique sees more of this garbage is because Richard is kind enough to leave everyone on their own and not moderate this place as tough as it might need.

Reminds me of my ex. I used to take for granted all the good times we had. We would get together as often as he could because he was busy with school a lot and I failed to realize the importance of that over a relationship. So, instead of enjoying our time together I made both of our lives a living hell and complained and complained over and over and I'd get jealous and be angry . . . when in reality I was just happy to have a kiss and a night together. He always tried his best and I never got to thank him.

Luckily, my ex taught me to appreciate everything now, no matter how small it is. Relationships, because of him, will be much better and I won't take for granted anymore when someone gives me their time, affection and relationship. Hope he will realize this . . .

Also, measurement done via cookies is always error prone for counting unique visitors as people tend to delete cookies fairly frequently. Cookie based techniques will be fairly accurate for pageviews, visits, etc... but break down for counting Uniques pretty damn fast -- as you're essentially assuming the person did not delete their cookie, and if they did delete the cookie, the next time they visit your website... that's another Unique in Google Analytics eyes.

What about the well documented problem of people deleting cookies? The same cookie issue effects Google Analytics and Quantcast for measuring uniques, so of course the two would report similar numbers.

I am not arguing that Compete is more accurate for "Quantified" sites at all. Data directly from the source will of course be more accurate, than an estimate based off a smaller sample.

Panel companies have complex methodologies to project data. Compete takes 2 million people, and projects that sample to fit the U.S. internet population.. which I believe is around 150 million. Any person dealing with data will tell you that all data is biased. When you're estimating traffic for over a million domains, it is impossible to detect and correct every single bias systematically/automatically for such a big dataset. As you know. Alexa does not correct for bias at all (they can't detect any as they only have toolbar data -- and the crazy data is very evident by the Streetfire.net vs Venturebeat stats on Alexa).. Compete tries, and in my experience for the bigger sites does a good job. There is very much room for them to improve for estimating smaller sites, and I look forward to them addressing this. They are headed in the right direction.

My guess is that this particular Streetfire case is an anomaly for them.

Matt, you should get 15-20 site owners, with traffic over 1 Million to release their internal US numbers, and then have a bake-off, vs. basing your opinion on a single case :)

I work for a small startup with revenues around $1 million. We lost count of the number of VCs calling us, asking for a meeting, and telling us to contact them once we get to $5 million per year in revenues.

The only exception I know to this rule is Ycominator: which essentially provides beer and pizza money ($15,000) to kids in exchange of hefty ownership. The mob would be proud.

Do you guys realize most startups have no need for VC infusion once they get to that level? Not all, but most.

Also: what about the concern of investing money in technology created by kids. Very bright kids, obviously, but kids nonetheless.

Seems like a formula destined for long-term failure.

I appreciate all that the Haverhill Police Dept does for the city. I'm sure it's not easy dealing with a lot of the hoodlums that they see on a daily basis. It is the failed economic policies of the Bush administration and his Republican yes men that caused this mess. Senator McCain happily followed along in hopes of using the popular Republican party to vault him to President in this election. While he was not being a "maverick" these policies came crashing down around him and the Republican brand name has become a detriment instead of the positive it was only a few short years ago.

To be honest if the John McCain of 2000 was running this would be a tough election for me but over the last 8 years I have seen him devolve into a quivering Republican pushover agreeing to whatever the mighty GOP wants if it means he will get elected president.

Another point if I may....I have read reports that SpinVox has revenues of £2 million per year and in a recent interview with the Guardian the chief exec of SpinVox added that with almost 100 million customers worldwide it would also be utterly impractical for people to transcribe even a relatively small percentage of the messages.

I'm not pointing fingers. In general (not only the Internet) there are some cases where it's like "tough break" deaf have to learn how to pay the piper just as many hearing folks do. Maybe bit of fine-tuning there and there but no more "deaf" freebies, okay?

What I meant by fine-tuning is for example if 95% of shows on the Cable system is captioned, that means we get 5% discount. That's for starters. We have the technology to assess this stuff.

I feel that too many senses of entitlement has been sprouted ever since the early days of relay services used by TTY. This has gotten out of hand.

I'm still thankful the NAD (pausing for dignity) enforced that the deaf don't get a tax break (more empowerment).

I understand ironies realized here. We still end up getting screwed over (i.e. school system refusing to provide interpreters for parent-teachers meeting). A freaking waste of our paid taxes.

We have to choose our battles. I was really upset when HOVRS participated in brown-bagging (helping deaf pay for Internet as long as they use HOVRS (minutes tracked) before FCC put them back in their place.

I admit price calibration is a problem if applied (by precedent law) to every product and service. Think iTunes, iPhone (price reduction for data-only) and so on. It'll open a can of worms.

Books need videos to show hearing how to make signs properly. Many now use the "Signing Naturally" series of books, which include lessons on Deaf Culture as well as videos for better sign practice.

1) Anonymous: ED:NOS is a dangerous eating disorder. I've known several women who found their way into a hospital or DIED as a result of their ED:NOS. You don't have to be clinically underweight or constantly restricting/binging and purging to do physical & possibly fatal damage to your body. Never mind the fact that they suffer mentally, just as much as bulimics and anorexics do. I'm sick of this "my eating disorder is better than yours!" cock-flailing contest.

2) I actually agree with what this article is saying -- crash-dieting, however unhealthy it is, is NOT the same as anorexia. Eating a salad for lunch and refusing treats doesn't make someone anorexic. The main difference is that dieters are in control of what they eat, while anorexics are unable to control their fear of food.

And this is coming from someone with an eating disorder.

Grim economy, war going on overseas, corruption, and two people in love who would like the privilege afforded to others to themselves. What is the most dire subject?

How would altering the ban on gay marriage going to effect marriage? The ever so predictable responses are, what else? Marrying a family member, dog, tree, etc. etc. Well, those arguments don’t stand up when it is not consensual. Could lifting the ban on gay marriage possibly help the economy? Yeah it might, never know until you try.

If someone is comfortable in their own skin and not threatened by the idea of homosexuality, this should not be an issue.

Immorality has changed over the centuries, decades, and years. It is subjective from one person to another. There is no such thing as an ultimate morality. Those of you who think that are just narcissists that don’t bother having any empathy whatsoever. Universal immorality would be murder, theft etc. However, we have mitigating circumstances that make those permissible. How is loving someone immoral?

Unhealthy, every single statistic can be manufactured to prove either side of the argument. SEX is unhealthy if done irresponsibly.

What is more natural than to love someone? Scientists have proven that attraction causes biological and chemical reactions in the human body. Are all homosexuals just “tricking” their body into attraction for the member of the same sex? If so, we are really talented, far more than heterosexuals if we can do that. We must be superior beings since we can alter our state of mind from the time we reach puberty.

I think this will have turned out to be a 'good' thing for Gilroy's emergency services. It points out how dependent we are on a single carrier, and how many of our seemingly divergent communications technologies are actually a 'common source' that can be taken out by a single disaster.
What if this had been a major earthquake, or a flood that washed out the lines instead of an act of vandalism? With a variety of problems to address caused by a wider emergency, getting these comm-lines working again would probably take longer.
It sounds like it would be prudent for the city to get a few dozen non-network based, old fashioned walkie talkies that can be handed out to emergency services providers whenever there's a widespread network outage, regardless of cause.
Then the issue becomes one of assuring there are always non-expired batteries around to put in them.
Also, we have a local emergency am station 1610--there may be walkie-talkie owners in the neighborhoods, so putting a 'we're using walkie-talkie channel x to take emergency reports' on that station would be a good way to recruit spontaneous locals to act as reporting stations in the event of an actual disaster.
We discovered mid-day in my neighborhood that phones worked between houses on our street--so we could at least phone each other in an emergency to send someone to the firehouse.
Anyway--turned into half-decent disaster drill for emergency services, and sounds like nobody got hurt, right? We were lucky.

How many times does this need to be pointed out? This mayor is out of line for asking him to resign like this. I’m not an expert regarding Toronto’s as I’m in Montreal.
Basically I’d say it all depends on how far is your client in their design and architecture and their technical background.
Here’s how I would do it:
Gather a senior infrastructure architect, a senior production IT manager and if they don’t have it yet a senior DBA/transactional/developer.
Have them sign NDA and sit with your client for 2-3 questions/answers sessions and have them draw a high level architecture and timeline. One person has to be a moderator… this helps a lot.
If I were to speak with your client I would ask things like: Are J2EE, MySQL database and Linux choices set in stone? Why did you choose them, what do you expect from them, what others products did you look at?
Then see what are the real key points and needed skills. As per your description you need the following skills:
- Network design
- Infrastructure architecture, especially for redundancy, backups and scalability
- DBA architecture then later tweaking and optimizing.
- Transactional analyst
Now you need 2 types of people: an IT aware++ manager IT and technical experts.
You can’t go without the experts (architects). You’ll need them a lot at start then less later on.
You’ll need the manager from start to finish. It’s the one that’ll make people focus on important things, smooth the edges and deliver on time within budget or at least deliver what was planned.
As a note if the technology is really innovative they’d better hire people than go with consultants and see their ideas stolen.
Salary wise it all depends on the skills and experience.
Personally I would hire the manager full time, $100K, from the start and go with short-term contracts for the others. You can get decent architecture designs in 2-3 months.

An architect would be $100+ per hour.

I would look for a J2EE architect who also has experience in infrastructure and deployment because the software arch would be the significant consideration in making it work.

I would expect a challenge in attracting that kind of talent to a startup without a strong head of tech who would already know where to fish for this.

I completely agree with Scott Hamilton. All of the problems in downtown Long Beach stem from Kraig Kojian. He single-handedly caused a national economic downturn the likes of which haven't been seen since the great depression.

While I agree with many posters here that the alleged actions are inexcusable you can't really hate the guy for being a flirt. If he touches you inappropriately that's one thing which deserves punishment. But you know what, the guy is a great doctor who cares a lot for his patients, he is thorough in his examinations and even more so in his follow up. I routinely refer patients to him and none have ever had a problem. In fact I know a few other doctors who all see him for their medical care......

I cannot stand McConnell's opinions either and frequently think, "Wow, he really doesn't get it." But I think you're being a bit harsh. Paotie, Candy, and others are much ruder than McConnell is. McConnell says the same thing over and over, but he doesn't insult people on an individual level, except maybe to imply that others don't listen to them, when in fact, they are.

Paotie, Dan, White Ghost, Ben Vess, and many others have taken it way, way, way beyond personal insults this summer. They participated in character assassination, contacting individuals' employers trying to get them fired, and a lot more. I think their actions are more deserving of condemnation than McConnell, even if I don't think McConnell listens to anyone, except people who agree with him. I respect him for at least keeping things courteous.

Actually, as Jim Jubak of Yahoo money so rightfully wrote "The Feds bailed out China, not US". Why is that you may ask? This bailout favored China in 5 distinct ways:

1. The rescue bails out the banks and central banks that had put too much money into mortgage paper backed by Fannie and Freddie. At the end of 2007, Chinese banks held $376 billion in what the financial markets call agency debt.

2.Now the commercial banks in China -- and the Chinese government -- don't have to worry about problems at Fannie and Freddie turning into problems on their balance sheets. Chinese banks are free, therefore, to make more risky, ill-considered loans to domestic companies.

3.The People's Bank of China can forget about the yuan appreciating too quickly, which would increase the cost of Chinese goods and cut into Chinese exports. Now the Chinese government can manage its exchange rate without worrying that buying more dollars to depress the price of the yuan would increase its exposure to something like a meltdown at Fannie or Freddie

4.The U.S. intervention into its financial markets clears the way for the Chinese to intervene as deeply as they want without any foreign criticism. Who can say the Beijing government shouldn't intervene to prop up Chinese real-estate prices after what the U.S. government just did? Chinese real estate has suffered an even worse fall than U.S. housing prices, with some cities showing a 70% drop from their peaks

5.Pro-growth advocates in China just got another boost. China's advocates of fiscal discipline and the need to fight inflation were probably fighting a losing battle anyway, since politicians everywhere are reluctant to risk the wrath of the unemployed just to cut a percentage point out of inflation. Recent actions and speeches out of Beijing indicate the government is gradually revving up the growth engine again. More-radical pro-growth officials have also advocated new policies that would prop up the prices of stocks and real estate. The huge U.S. intervention to prop up real-estate, bond and stock prices helps make their case.

As we all know China has billions if not trillions in investments in the US. The American governent cannot afford to have China withdraw all of its money as this will literally bankrupt the States but also negatively affect China. ITs a win-win, lose-lose situation (the worst coming from the States).

Now there is the Lehman crisis which is greatly affecting the States but the government wont intervene this time since 1 China does not have a big stake in that company and two it cannot afford it. Freddie and Fannie has put them 5 trillion in debt.

However, European countries, most notably Germany (Europe's largest economy) is greatly worried about Lehman's state and is asking the US goverment for intervention.

More on that as it unfolds next week.

I said, "in my experience." In my experience I have had the opportunity to work on a very good team, at a very good site. Persons on my caseload have been extended every resource they asked for, and when I don't have an answer, I am honest about it and follow up. All are in a stable housing situation.

To accomplish this, I, like many of my colleagues, pull 10 hour days and 6 day work weeks pretty regularly. We are told no overtime is permitted and not to complain to Magellan or let it be known we're working on weekends. We are docked by Magellan upper management for not meeting 100% productivity standards on all documentations, even if a 23 person caseload is dumped unceremoniously on a case manager overnight.

So it is lucky for myself and my colleagues that we have a strong team at our clinic to support each other as the RHBA is not concerned with the welfare of clients OR employees.

And, Rosalie, I am deeply insulted by your assertion that I and my colleagues don't care about our caseloads.

So many things wrong with this logic...

But the main things are that first of all, God created the angels, but they are not his "children." They are entirely different heavenly beings. And do you know that they, as much as God does, they WANT us to succeed and seek Him in life and be happy? They are here to help us, whether we may see them (and God) or not.

Second, disease and plague are not of God, and are not a curse or a punishment of God, but of man. When the first of humankind, Adam and Eve, chose to disobey Him and take of the forbidden fruit, sin came into the world, and thus such "miseries and maladies of mind and body" followed. God never wanted any of that for us, but we sinned by disobeying Him. Not to say that any person ever WANTS to be sick or depressed, but these are the consequences of sin which we brought upon ourselves.

Also, why should ANY of the terrible things we do as human beings fall on the shoulders of God? He does not murder, lie, steal, cheat, rape, destroy, defile, insult, or any of the things people do. And it is not he who invented such wicked things. This goes back to my point about sin. We alone brought these terrors upon ourselves. God did not create them, nor commit them. Give me concrete, irrefutable evidence that He ever has...You cannot. Yet it is endlessly taught in all the books you read in school, man is inherently evil, and it is evident from all the troubles of this world. Why should He take any of the responsibility for those things?

...But here's the thing...He DID. He died on the cross and was accountable for all of the wicked things His people have done, are doing, and will do. He came as a sacrifice for all mankind, but remember Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Doesn't it make sense, then, that if one does not accept Him into their heart and into their life, that they would not truly be saved?

Finally, through all the trials and tribulations we face in life, the only reason we face them is because with every challenge we face, if we stand strong in our faith, we grow stronger in body, mind, and spirit. God is Love and Love is Real. He is not bent on torturing us, but rather watching us accomplish what our feeble minds see as impossible, and He is so proud of us when we do. "With God, all things are possible." And anyone who can say "It's all good" and mean it in the midst of the darkness and storms this life throws at us will be greatly rewarded in the end, because God makes all things good, and all things happen for a good reason. I'd like to address what else I have to say about these quotes, but I would never have enough time or words to explain.

But one day...When all you have left is God...That is when you'll realize that God is all you need.

I was incredulous when Jindal mocked the $140 million "for something called 'volcano monitoring' " right after talking about how the federal government failed Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina. Doesn't he realize that a volcanic eruption can create a natural disaster just like a major landfalling hurricane can? 2.0 SUCKS!!! It doesn't ALLOW you to be private. When you upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 all the sudden all your personal information and friends are all PUBLIC!! So you have to scramble to find a way to protect yourself and get private ASAP. That's the first stupid thing about this upgrade. The instructions tell you to click on the pencil icon to set your privacy for each module. Well DUH the pencil icon is for CUSTOMIZING/EDITING, not for setting privacy, it's the LOCK icon. AND... when you click the lock icon and you choose "Only Friends" and “apply to all modules” then sign out, view your profile, it's still open to the public!! How SUCKY and STUPID is that?!?! LUCKILY and I do mean LUCKILY I was able to quickly go back to 1.0, otherwise I would have deleted my account immediately and said F.U. to MySpace. They need to hire a completely new development team, talk about sucking ASS.

App purchases get stored to your itunes account and saved on your computer as well as the phone. When replacing or updating your phone your apps are transfered. If you lose your computer and your phone, you can redownload all of the apps from the app store. I believe you can even have the same app used on up to five different 'authorized' devices at a time- in otherwords, if you own a iphone and an ipod touch, you can purchase an app once and use it on both devices (although a gps app on the ipod would be fairly useless).

Next time try looking into things before just blabbing nonsense that is blatantly inaccurate and can be confirmed with a simple google search.

It's not that far fetched that further availability of these sort of violent videos are causing violence. I recently saw a report on U.S. television about a growing number of violent attacks against homeless people in the U.S. that are (mostly--according to confessions by attackers) motivated by the gruesome "Bum Fights" videos, in which homeless people are abused and paid small amounts of money to fight each other.

This stuff isn't entertainment, it's barbarism. Somehow, though, a lot of teenagers find this stuff entertaining and lacking a sense of morals (apparently) they immitate it.

Any media that makes these videos more accessible will invariably increase the level of violent acts occurring. I'm not usually for any form of censorship, but I'm certainly against these moronic, degrading, disgusting, and ultimately dangerous videos. I think legislation that limits their availability seems like a small price to pay to (hopefully) lower the incidence of violent crime.

GeoCities was certainly "the place to be" back in the days. It was the place where I learned web design through trial and error, those days when creating web site was actually about writing HTML codes. Where putting up a web page of your own (however simple) was something you can really be proud of. It was before the Twitter/Facebook/Myspace/Whatever generation. Before the blogs (you can find many personal diaries on GeoCities, before blogging became a phenomenon). A time when if you wanted to write about what you had for lunch actually meant you had to learn how to code. A time when 6MB of space was a luxury you'd jump up and down in joy about

What made it unique was the concept of cities and neighborhoods - long URLs, yes - but it also made the homesteaders felt they belong to a community

My web site was of course, like most others, filled with flashy animated GIFs, horizontal rules and then graduated to image maps for navigation and finally CSS 1.0! And yes, anyone remember those CLs? I was a community leader in SiliconValley, and I really did enjoyed helping new "homesteaders" find they way around GeoCities. Helped beta test their WYSIWYG editor too - codenamed "hummingbird" :-D

I tried to watch the Glee pilot but had to change the channel after 5 minutes. They covered half the screen with annoying tweets of just nonsense. I think newspapers (those that have shut down) might have survived longer if short term economic gain (higher or sustained profit margins) had not been the impetus for misguided personnel cuts which lead to reduction in unique content. Some blogs have gained readership because they've filled a niche. Nature abhors a vacuum. There's a tactile benefit and built in aesthetic advantage to sitting down to read the paper with your cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate/sterno...Too bad "the public good" has fallen by the wayside as a reason to own and produce a newspaper. We will continue to suffer from that shortsightedness on the part of many.

After reading this piece I continue to be amazed at the ongoing witch hunt and inaccuracies and omissions of factual information regarding the DNA in Goudeau’s case. The Phx crime lab did not “sit on” the swab. The swabs were so DEGRADED, the lab could not get any useable results, so it sat on a shelf for a year. Enter DPS, who was PROVIDED MARK’S NAME and asked to make some evidence.

I don’t know who the “source” is that spoke with Time reporter, Shanna Hogan, but the information is just plain wrong. Had Shanna attended the sexual assault trial last year she would have had the facts, not this BS from some “source” (I also need to mention the two women were paid $1100/month to ID Mark in court, since they had NEVER ID’s him before – even when they were shown his picture the night he was arrested. And let’s not forget Judge Klien HAND PICKED the alternate jurors so that those who were going to vote NOT GUILTY were removed.) Anyway, I digress, during the 2007 sexual assault trial lab staff testified to the degraded nature of the DNA and that PPD crime lab was in SURPRISED to learn that DPS said they could now get results from this DEGRADED swab. If Shanna had any investigative ability at all she would have reviewed these public records. What an idiot.

DPS used the Y chromosome to single out Mark. First of all, the Y does not point to a single person, but a paternal line – brothers, cousins, uncles, nephews, their sons, etc., and that an arrest cannot even be made based on a Y result. Honestly who knows what DPS thinks they have since the swabs, which were dirty and had been wet, have been totally consumed by police with nothing left for the defense to test.

The STR analysis is more discriminating, of which Mark is only consisted with 3 loci, not the 13 required to be called a DNA “match.” Rarely, if ever, can a person even be arrested with so few loci. But with corrupt PPD who seems to enabled to violate constitution rights at will, they do what ever they want to who ever they want.

The DNA from the sexual assault was a 3-person mixture which is nearly impossible to analyze because of all of the peaks and valleys in the readings. Especially with the male DNA as a minor contributor, the entire male DNA cannot even be detected.

At best the DNA used against Mark is tenuous and inconclusive. There wasn’t even a CODIS hit on Mark since he matched so few genetic markers (loci). His name was provided to the DNA tech, Lorrain Heath, who fished his DNA out of the database.

As for Lorraine Heath, the State’s “expert”, her DNA experience is limited to only two real working years as an analyst, her prior short years of experience were as a lecturer. (Those who can’t teach.)

This pipsqueak technician called local law enforcement after fishing Mark’s DNA out of the database and inaccurately told police she had a match! Mark was arrested that day! At the sexual assault trial under cross examination Heath was asked if she explained the limitations of her analysis to the police - her response - “NO.”

Heath has since fled the country and now resides in Canada.

I have yet to see local news media interview an uninvolved real DNA expert on this case. Any DNA expert worth their weight can explain the extreme challenges of analyzing a 3-person mixture, the low number of loci matches and how 1000s of other men in this city alone will match those same 3.

With the avalanche of uninformed and inaccurate facts by the media there isn’t any possible way Mark will ever get a fair trial in the county.

The battle system was way too easy in the PC version. You just needed to set the characters on "Use your Judgement." and watch them do all the fighting for you. Even in "Impossible" mode, only the first 2 battles are a bit challenging, after that you just need to level up a bit in a free map and keep your characters properly equipped, and you'll be able to win pretty much any battle with the "Use your Judgement." command. The hentai scenes were also pointless and out of place, I always ended up skipping them.

The PS3 version seems like a big improvement though. Way better graphics, improved battle system, no stupid hentai... Too bad that the chances we'll see an international release are very slim...

I fully understand that people NEED tutorials etc. The thing that kills me is that so many tutorials are focused on ripping off one's style. Why not just post tutorials titled,"How to vectorize a raster image" or "Create vector paths from a raster image". Something along those lines. Please don't get me wrong - what you are doing is a huge help to many beginners and I'm sure they all appreciate the kind gestures. However I would like to see more originality from such a talented individual like yourself. I can tell you right now that if we had a client come to our agency and they said,"make it look like this", we would inevitably be chastised for producing it the moment it went to print.

Just some food for thought, or my opinions on the subject. Take it as you see fit.

Well, Sachin can definitely not be called as 'unparalleled' in T20. He is way too good in Tests and ODI's, but he hasn't played enough of T20's in the first place, moreover I believe his age and fatigue due to excessive cricket in the recent past does not permit him to be fit enough for T20. Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj etc definitely lead the way when it comes to T20's for India, with no offence meant to Tendulkar.

If time warner were to properly manage their network, the need for the bandwidth caps becomes unnecessary. Let's face it, you're never going to know the difference between 3mbps and 10mbps when browsing the internet. Mathematics will prove that. If they want to cap bandwidth, they should learn from comcast since they did it right and just hit the excessive users bandwidth.

Two things that this doesn't take into account is all of the "junk traffic" out there from hackers trying to get into your system and there is no mention of how "broadcast" traffic will be treated under the policies. For you techies out there, just look at the number of bits in the subnet mask and you'll think they are insane for creating such a large broadcast domain. Shrinking the broadcast domain will significantly improve bandwidth and performance of they're network with the cost of loosing just 2 ip addresses per subnet. Don't believe me? Hook your modem directly to your computer and run wireshark filter for broadcast traffic.

For you people out there that say you'll jump providers when the caps are imposed, how many of you will follow through with it? You're all making a lot of good noise on the subject, but your actions of canceling the service when the cap is imposed and telling the company that that is the reason for your canceling your service will speak louder than most of these half hearted posts on message boards such as these. That's the only way to send the message to time warner that they shouldn't run the business like a bunch of tax and spend liberal politicians.

I agree with you. But then I like to point is that ideas themselves are not patentable as such. One of the requirement from the patent office is to demonstrate a feasible implementation of the idea.

Think about it. You produce electricity by rotating a metalic coil in the magnetic field. You are saying do not share it if you do not want the rest of the world know. First, such an option is available and as Don explained it is called trade secret. Second, how the hell world would have grown so much if the basic mechanism of producing electricity was not shared.

Patent is a tradeoff. I am telling the world that how to produce electricity. I do not mind if others produce electricity except that I have spent so much effort thinking about producing electricity that I at least deserve some advantage. The government assumed that a fair advantage is to give me 20 years of exculisive rights. 20 is just an assumed numbers. The right number could be either bigger or smaller. But we never know.

After the announcement, as late as 5:04 PM, Google Finance was showing that MSFT was up at ECN an additional 13 cents. Google Finance also shows the time of the quote. Clearly it was incorrect. All the sites, including CNNFN, Yahoo Finance, MSN Money was showing the stock to be down about one dollar. Well, these sites had a time stamp of 20 minutes earlier.

I got into the impression that Google is showing me ECN quotes in realtime, because they put a more recent time stamp. Hence MSFT is recovered back. Google Finance cheated me and caused me a big loss.

My question is if a public company which is advertisement based has any responsibility to offer the service correctly. Could Google in this case be liable for my loss. They clearly are lagging in the freshness of their ECN quotes but try to give an impression that their quotes are in fact fresher than others. I saved the browser window as an evidence that Google cheated me.

This is an important public question because we will be consuming more and more advertisement supported services. Could we held the company responsible even if we are not paying the company directly.

#7 and #9, this is #6 again. If you see Google Finance page, there is a time stamp of the quote. The disclaimer says that this time stamp could be delayed be 15-20 minutes behind. Tomorrow check this time stamp after the market. Google Finance will show it to be only a minute behind whereas all other websites show it to be 15-20 minutes behind. I gave Google Finance a benefit of doubt. So what I did was waited for twenty minutes and to see whether Google Finance puts the MSFT stock in the red. It did at 5:05 PM. The time stamp was 5:04 PM. All other financial sites were showing MSFT in red by 4:30 PM.

Now the other disclaimer that Google Finance is not responsible for any loss and it is not financial advice is fine. I am not asking that kind of responsibility.

The responsibility is not to decieve. They are showing a more recent time stamps next to their quote to deceive me. This is a materialitic lie and cheating to a consumer's good faith. If I were paying to them, then even with the disclaimer, Google Finance is liable for their cheating.

My question is, does an advertisement supported company does not even have a good faith responsibility of providing their services honestly. Certainly their cheating did cost Yahoo Finance because I used to use it earlier, if Google were not cheating.

If one looks at it then it did not even costed that much money. Most of the new services are employee paid. Since stocks are expensed in dollar terms in quarterly reports, 15% increase in the number of stock grants is pretty much neautralized with the corresponding decline in the stock price. That precisely is the reason that these new expenses are already built in the earning forecast. These expenses won't even cost a tenth of a cent in quarterly reports. (40 million dollars per year).

Freshbooks is not exactly innovative. The UI is so Web 1.0 it's not funny, even though they are making all these claims about being very chic and Web 2.0. Also, my guess is that the majority of their users are free users, not paid. That said, you may need to adjust your $400M price tag.

On the other hand, Intuit is a complete pig. With their hand in everything, you're only really buying a piece of what Google would find useful -- an outdated online accounting app. This one is circa 1996. MAN....

I bet it will beat the iphone because it'll implement something better than the MAC OS. Having their own OS rather than the providers is a GREAT enhancement since there's no SDK for regular phones, only what the provider offers. So having something that's practially OpenSource on a competitor phone is a great bargan.

For example Hostel 2 was overhyped on this site and got a waaay to positive review. And what we really don't need is overhyping certain movies. I take a review that is too harsh over one that is too smarmy any day. In the first case you can always be surprised positively, while the second case guarantees a big disappointment. I was personally introduced to PJ (CEO) to Jon (Ignition) and worked as a consultant (dba VP) for Entellium in the early days. Ignition was told in no uncertain terms "you have asymmetric information regarding number of customers and revenue figures." These words came out of my mouth, based upon information Parish (CFO) had told me. This is a terrific list that includes many influential women in the the technology industry. Not surprisingly however, it leaves out dozens of others just as deserving. Off the top of my head I can name a half a dozen specific individuals who are currently heads down running important businesses in our state --- or who are doing significant work at our research institutions that deserve this kind of recognition.

I strongly encourage you to remove the reference to "Top 100 women in Seattle Tech" and instead change it to something like "100 Women Of Influence in Seattle Tech". It's a simple change and not too late to do.

I am certain that all of this dialogue is making you smile. You are increasing the hit rate for TechFlash and you've got some well respected people weighing in with opinions on one more rate and rank news item. My guess is that this ranks as high in terms of dialogue as the "Top Women In Tech" blog a few weeks back.

My personal opinion is that these articles smell like newstand tabloid journalism. Lot's of heat --- but very little light. I think they detract from the brand of TechFlash as a place to get accurate, compelling journalism and end up having you --- I'm sorry to say --- acting more like arsonists than serious journalists.

They`ll try to make you feel as guilty as their `clients` (never use the word `customer` at these companies, it would make you look a salesman... when you really are one... under cover)Some of the vocabulary used during the training was totally reminiscent of religious groups, asking us for a `leap of faith` and distributing books entitled `God owns my Business`... no comment...I also met with some of the consultants sent once we closed the deals and they themselves will acknowledge that they are definitely not worth their hourly fees. Those companies just play wonderfully with mirrors and pull rabbits out of hats, beware!PS. the reason I stay anonymous is that we signed a confidentiality agreement no to expose these practices! But I really think everybody has the right to know what it is really all about: the consulting firm`s bottom line!

I am a Mac and Windows user (and I switched to Windows after OS8 and have switched back in the past 2 years).

Since Windows 2000, Windows has been pretty good. Until the Intel machines from Apple came out, OSX was anything but snappy (and it seems the most hardcore of mac zealots are in denial about this) unless you had the nicest hardware. Resizing windows was pathetic (I'm glad I don't have a G4 any more).

I can't say that I often get BSODs or have been hit by a virus in the past several years. I know many people who are in the same boat.

Yes, it's safer to be lazy on Mac, but I've had my share of kernel panics (isn't that just a pretty BSOD?)

You're just bashing a Mac basher by bashing Windows and that's totally lame. Windows is not nearly as bad as some people would like you to believe.

I love my Macs, OSX and Apple, but I can't stand the reality distortion field dwelling zealots.

After doing research on the home that is listed to "Lilly Calandrello" on white pages.... found that it was purchased by a Richard/Rick Calandrello and his wife Barbara Ann Calandrello.

Looking into Barbara's info gives a few alias and maiden names, including a Lilly Ann. With a few liens, lawsuits, etc. All are listed with the DOB of 7-1957 (51 yrs old).

There is also a Barbara Calandrello in MA born in 1937- 71 yrs old, not to be confused with that one.

So her credentials may be under her maiden name(s)/aliases as well.

It costs $7 for a background check through Indiana State's website, the "Criminal History" Search, but I'm not coughing it up for this lady. :p

There is always an imbalance of equity as that is used to lure top talent into the company - in theory to put the company into position to hit a home run - as clearly was done here. After reading the S1 however, there are so few major stockholding exec's that i'm not sure any could be categorized as "along for the ride". A VC? Sure but I have difficultly believing that $1.4B would have been attainable without the entire list of exec's, past and present. If anything, where the rank and file lose out in deals like this is that when the company wasn't worth much, the VC's negotiated huge ownership percentages - 85% in this case. If you want to direct anger or dissapointment at anyone, it should be there. If they (the VC's) only had a "piddly" 70% then there would have been 30% ($450M) that could have been doled out to employees. I'm not saying it's fair, or right, but it is what it is. ----Steve

For me the ultimate Prius Hack would be enabling Bluetooth on a car without that official package. The bluetooth chips are inexpensive enough that I suspect they're in all models, just disabled on some.

I couldn't justify spending all that extra cash for bluetooth when I could build my own interface 10x cheaper.

Even so, I'd love to get the onboard bluetooth working!

these jeans are really well made. i bought a pair of the slim fits on sale for £50.. it must have been their clearance sale, because sadly they weren't being made anymore when i went back to buy them 6 months later.. the seams are strong and the material is great. i want another pair so badly! i've bought 4 pairs of good society jeans since, but the quality does not even compare to my old hugs!

hug jeans really outshined a lot of other fair trade and organic jean-makers. not only was the quality great, but their worker rights and wages were out-lined in great detail. many company's claim they are fair-trade and sweatshop-free, but merely state it, and don't give much info on the steps they take to ensure this.

The car is Awesome!!! Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT, what could be cooler?!!!! Even though the nano-skin and transformations are unrealistic, the transformers movie was very popular and proves people dig the futuristic approach. It's not supposed to be deep, or replicate every detail of the original- it's just supposed to be fun, action-packed and awesome... which it is!!! I hope it keeps going strong.

More mystery, more action, I can dig it. Zoe, not my favorite character- it's the writing though, not the actress. Hasselhoff's return would be great, unfortunately it would be lost on younger viewers, the primary audience for this show.

As a published molecular biologist, I have to say that Palin's comment is more than misinformed - it's saddening... especially given that some of the first characterized animal models of Down Syndrome (a genetic disease her own child has and touts as one of her unique platforms in supporting research for special needs children) were established in drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies). Drosophila is still considered the flagship animal model for developmental genetics - "hox" genes, the first developmental genes found to to have across-the-board homology in animal species, was first discovered in these models.

Furthermore, her attempt to be sympathetic to anti-French Americans is also discouraging... mainly because of her lack of understanding of the way scientific research is conducted in the United States. International collaboration efforts have been, and still remain, one of the major reasons why the US is still the leader in competitive research. If the French release a paper citing a key protein-product discovery - US researchers are quick to collaborate and take both the investigative and financial reigns (given that almost every other country cannot compete with the US in funding and manpower). End-result: the US wins on patents to key discoveries (being the lead-author originator) and the pharma industry (one of the few sectors with continued growth in the US economy) prospers.

I suppose Palin didn't follow her comment to these conclusions - it takes a much simpler mind to call drosophila genetic research work a "pet project" that "don't make a whole lot of sense."

Interesting comments about the Palestinians trying to push the Jews into the "see" for 2,000 years. I think some fact-checking is in order, though. Around 2,000 years ago, Palestine was Roman. As recently as 1918, it was a British protectorate. The citizenship and its opinions are far from homogeneous, and it probably doesn't help the debate to paint the conflict with such broad strokes.

In addition, countless UN measures condemning Israeli acts have been vetoed by the United States after overwhelmingly one-sided votes.

This situation is simple. In this case, yelling is an ineffective tool. The teacher needed only to make his voice loud enough to ensure the class hears him. He should have conducted himself commensurate with the example his students should follow.

Teachers are charged with the duty of maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. The teacher used the same ineffective approach on two behavioral issues. Blatant disrespect detracts from order. Students who degrade classroom order, should be removed and dealt with appropriately. Students who choose to sit silently should be allowed to do so during the national anthem. There is no rule requiring him or her to comply with instructions that do not accommodate syllabus requirements or student safety.

A heartfelt lesson on the price of freedom, the value of an education, and the importance respect, may produce the desired results.

My question is, how bad is the beating, really? Not to diminish the damage done to the vets, but pay close attention to the video and here's what you see: two guys are knocked unconscious with a single punch each, then one guy gets his chin and chest (NOT his head) stepped on a couple times. Not stomped, just pushed on by a shoed foot; notice that the perpetrator is keeping his weight on his OTHER foot as he "stomps" on the victim. After that, NO other physical damage is done to either victim, and a few items (shoes, etc.) appear to be stolen. If the fight was staged for video, could it be that the victims are willing participants? It seems unlikely, given that the police became involved, but...

Don't agree with your comments that companies like Neonode are "Imitating" the iPhone. It takes a long time to develop a new phone and bring it to market. It would be virtually impossible for a company to take a newly unveiled handset like the iPhone and imitate it within weeks and bring a functioning clone to market. It would be a lot more accurate to state that companies like NeoNode are developing products with similar interface innovation concepts and that products like the iPhone clearly aren't the only game in town for innovation. Certainly Apple has done a great "Jobs" of creating buzz for their product but to give them all the credit for being the only innovators and inventors and calling others the imitators is really selling companies like Neonode short. Buzz doesn't mean you invented something - it just means your winning the marketing game.

There's got to be a deeper story here. air2web has burned through over 60M in cash (the figure might actually be a lot larger) and has been a dysfunctional company for at least 3 years now.

Mindmatics hasn't really made an impact in the US. I don't see any financial information on their site, but I've never understood them to be a high revenue, high margin business.

So, there are 2 potentially interesting stories here:

-If this is a merger of equals, how is it that Mindmatics is at the same stature (market share, revenue, tech assets, clients) as Air2web, as the latter company has raised a ton of cash over the years?
-If this is air2web acquiring Mindmatics, what does that say about the success of the air2web business and it's own capabilities of organic growth?

It's been almost a week since this story broke, and I haven't seen anything more than press release re-hashing. I'd expect that from Fierce Wireless, but I have come to expect a deeper analysis from Moconews.

I want to echo the other commenters who have encouraged you to get the vaccine. It's very, very important to protect you and your baby -- and it is indeed quite safe.

The reason we know that it is safe for pregnant women -- and anyone else -- to take is because the H1N1 flu vaccine is virtually identical to the regular seasonal flu vaccine.

The H1N1 vaccine you take will NOT be a live virus, by the way. The nasal spray which contains weakened live virus is not administered to pregnant women.

I couldn't make it to SXSW this year, so I kept an eye on my Twitter friends to live vicariously and be entertained. There was some of that, but like they say, there's a bad apple in every bushel. I found that some people (wannabe web 2.0 geeks) were using Twitter as a tool for self promotion and name dropping. They filled #SWSX with mundane garbage ruined it for others. Nobody cares what pseudo famous web 2.0 geek you're "eating brunch with". Transparency is fine, but how about a bit of humility? My litmus test is to always share what's happening in my tech life with normal everyday people and the feedback on Twitter and SWSX was - "a geek circle jerk". How can we expect the mass market to embrace a technology that, frankly, the so-called early adopters turn into a worthless tool of self promotion.

I think David Schirmer still has not paid his platinum super traders from 2005 or 2005 like he promised on national tv. I bet those people would be happy with that, geez I would be. But no I believe David Schirmer lied yet again. I go along with so many other people in thinking that this guy is full of bullshit, promises and is nothing but scum. Can a person who calls themselves a Christian treat their fellow men like this? Apparently thats just what Christians do according to Schirmer. And the best he can do is complain or blame or whinge or lie. What's the difference between "Clean computer" and "Apply actions" buttons on the virus screen? Don't they do the same thing...?

anyone else having issues with audio playing from more than one video at a time when using the version thats split into 6 parts?
