I was excited at the time I took it, as it was some of the first photographs I ever got to take with my own camera - a Brownie Box. I've managed to keep the original photographs down the years - which wasn't bad going as I was only ten when I took that. Now, of course, looking back, it does invoke memories of times past.

I am not finicky per se. I just don't like processed food, TV Dinners, frozen packet stuff, junk and fast food. If it's good food, freshly prepared, there's little I don't eat.

I was looking at stuff recently like packets of flavored rice, and canned soups. One serving of many of these products is over half your recommended sodium intake for the day. The typical can of soup is reckoned to be two servings, so when you eat the whole can (they're not that big) for lunch for example, that really means you shouldn't have any more salt for the rest of the day.

I do think some apps lend themselves to be more of a tool than a toy, and some the other way around!

Yeah, it's about $3.80 here at the moment. To think just ten years about it was 83 cents a gallon...

What I can never truly get my head around, and without having an anti-Microsoft rant, why is it that Open Source software such as Firefox can be released as a solid product with comparatively few nasties, and yet products from a huge corporation such as Microsoft are always way behind schedule, and full of major bugs?

Upgrade? I don't think so!

I'm out of contract in a couple of months, and you are next year.

We can get better deals on eBay than with the phone companies who make you sign up another two year contract.

The Verizon & Alltel deal is supposed to be done by year end. Thing is, I've found AllTel's network to be the best I've ever used, in terms of lack of dead spots and reliability. I hope the Verizon deal doesn't do away with that. Also I've heard that Verizon's customer service sucks big time. I hope that's not true.

We could look at approaching some of the other music promo companies that we deal with, certainly.

Beidler Forest, the 15,000 acre Audubon sanctuary of millenial bald cypress and remarkable wildlife, has been named a site of international importance by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. The organization represents 158 countries and 1,712 wetlands sites covering a total area half as big as Europe.

Kathy did eventually get out of bed around 6pm last evening, and I made her eat something. Right now (at 9.30 am) she is still asleep, so we'll see how she goes today.

Di: The bread machine we have here was only $30 in K-Mart, and it does a full 2LB loaf. Fresh bread is one of the few things that is more expensive here than in the UK (about twice the price). I'm talking about 'real' bread from a bakers here, not the sliced supermarket stuff! Anyway, with a 1LB loaf costing anything up to about $3.30, and a bag of bread flour which makes quite a few loaves for $2.64, it's a no-brainer really.

Joan: Yes it was delicious. In fact, when I make it, I have to agree with Di's comments that one has to be real careful about eating it! I have to limit myself, or I could, with some good sharp vermont cheese, quite easily consume half a loaf, along with some good beer, and probably add a few pounds a WEEK to my already oversized gut.

Your comment regarding evolving musical tastes caught my eye.

One good thing about getting older is the lack of peer pressure to conform to youthful tastes (not that I ever did really).

There is a very vibrant music scene in the UK though, and I've been featuring many British Indie artists on my net radio station at http://nabradio.us. You may care to check it out sometime. There's a lot of other good (but mostly Indie stuff too).

in A Nice Bit Of Crumpet on The Eye
Hello James,

I'm not sure on the origins of the the word with reference to an attractive young lady, but it's not a connotation that applies in the US, mainly due, I would suggest, to crumpets not being particularly common (although the English Muffin is).

Thanks for dropping by, and I might have some crumpets myself for lunch actually, I've got some in the kitchen right now.
