in Wanted: iPhone app ideas! on BabyGotMac
There needs to be a geocaching application that can look up where you are (should be easy to do this with locate me). It should then go to the geocaching.com website and download a list of what geocaches are nearby, and put them on a google map with an option of picking one by touching it, and then it will bring up the cache page listing in Safari with the ability to switch back and forth between the info on the cache page, and a live (where you are) GPS locating page which will use the coordinates from the cache info page in comparison to where you are to tell you how far, and in what direction (compass).. or at least compare them on the screen if a compass isn't doable. Trimble has a caching program out for other phones but no plans have been announced with regards to the iPhone. So far my research indicates there are no iPhone geocaching apps. There needs to be one, it's very important to hundreds of thousands of geocachers out there who may have an iPhone already or are considering buying one. Call it a purchase decision maker...

I can imagine the comments this would get from my neighbors.. :) (and the sMug smile I would have on my face showing it off). Of course I would never shirk any opportunity to evangalize a bit on the Mac.. A coffee cup is a fairly innocuous way to strike up a conversation on Macs. Of course, the odd theme of this mug will surely get notice faster than some others.. ;)

in What’s your biggest Apple related pet peeve? on BabyGotMac
Well, I used to have the pet peeve that Nick Young did, but more and more lately, I think people are beginning to see the light. I don't get so many blank stares anymore, vague "oh" replays nor comparisons to Apple IIs for that matter. I think the constant I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC ads are pretty much working. When it comes to online drive-by media however, I am thoroughly annoyed at the characterization of Mac users as Stevebots or form-over-function trendies. If it was only form, and not function, then how come I'm about 10x more productive than anyone I know who uses a PC?

Honestly now, you make me laugh! It's your blog, so why wouldn't you have your own mug? LOL.

in Bizarre post-Leopard Macbook problem on BabyGotMac
Makes no sense.. You said you used a "17-inch Mac Book Pro" DVD and it didn't work.. then you used an "install kit for a Macbook Pro" and it did work... Um.. What's the difference?

in A few more reasons Leopard isn’t ready for prime time on BabyGotMac
I don't think Airport is very stable in Tiger either. I've had a lot of problems with Airport not wanting to automatically return to a network that it's previously been on. Those problems have improved recently, it seems, but they aren't so far in the past that I can't see why Leopard's still having problems now.

in Mac OS X running on Apple TV on Apple TV Hacks
Surprise! The real news is that the AppleTV on a clean 10.4.9 install on a blank drive rates on XBench at ~56% of the speed of a 2GHz dual processor PowerMacG5!!!!!!
And that's no April Fools! Check my results!

IT WILL NOT RUN POWERPC APPS! (Well, it will, but so slowly you'll wish you hadn't tried.).. The Rosetta engine to run PPC requires SSE3, but the Intel chip in the AppleTV does not have SSE3 instructions and the SSE3 has to be software emulated as part of this hack..
Intel apps run beautifully! I am typing this on Safari right now on my Apple TV!
Audio isn't working (at least over the HDMI port, standard audio not tested yet). OpenGL apps don't show graphics. Everything else seems to work fine. I'm sure those two minor issues will be resolved soon. $300 mac.. who knew? WOOHOO!

in Steve Jobs alert: Killer Java app for iPhone on Scobleizer
Excuse me, but there are NO OPEN CELL PHONES on the market today.. so why should the iPhone be? Don't tell me there are! There aren't. Every one of them requires you to download and pay for apps through their exclusive service.. You can't just download them over a USB cable.. and you can't save them or retransmit them to a new phone when you upgrade. They force you to pay for them again. How is that open? Why should iPhone work any differently from the competitors? As usual, people have unusually high expectations of Apple.. so much so that they don't even reality check what exists today when they debate about how what Apple makes should be working tomorrow morning.. !
