in FOF #863 - Tip Toeing with Tracy - 10.22.08 on Feast of Fun
Tracy's right about the word "marriage" having heavy duty religious overtones, and it's that more than anything that drives otherwise rational christianists to oppose us (the lunatic fringe will oppose us no matter what). But I also agree that "separate but equal" is still unequal. That's why I say we should end marriage as a government function completely. The only legally accepted uniting of couples should be a civil union, open to both opposite-sex and same-sex couples, and then let churches fight over the word "marriage" among themselves (as they will).

Having said all that, the main point here is having the same rights and privileges regardless of what it's called (as Marc was basically saying in the podcast). In New Zealand, we have Civil Unions that are open to any couple and that are the legal equivalent of marriage. Marriage itself is restricted to opposite sex couples, however. I find it offensive that heterosexuals alone can marry, but at least I can have the same rights and privileges, and at the end of the day, that's what really matters. Eyes on the prize....

It's okay, Tracy—it's not like you were revealing any big secrets or anything. Next time, could mention my URL, though? hahahaha

Seriously, great discussion today. Marc was right about Palin: She's against any recognition of same-sex relationships apart from hospital visits—gee, thanks, Sarah! Both presidential and vice presidential candidates are opposed to same=sex marriage, but the Democrats are for civil unions. Whatever.

Personally, I agree with Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn who suggested that the only legal union for anyone should be civil unions and leave marriage to religion. They could argue all they want about who's really married (just like they now argue about who's really Christian or baptised, for example). No government has any business being involved in regulating a religious rite like marriage, but if they're handing out benefits, rights and privileges, it out to done equally.

See, Tracy? I'm STILL all about politics! lol

Tracy was thinking of Sy Rogers, who's still out there promoting the "ex gay" scam.

I had to laugh when Fausto said "indoor voice, Tracy". Does anyone actually use that phrase anymore? You wouldn't think so by the behaviour of some kids these days!

Well, if it's any comfort, every podcaster I know has had trouble with the exact same things you want to do. Be sure to post about it once you get it sorted, because I'd like to know, too!

cyberczar Heh. Thing is, I've done it before. It's not that hard. ;-)
Now, if only I can find that damned app. ;-)

Are you meaning Soundflower? It takes a lot of fiddling and configuration, but I'm told it does the sort of thing you're talking about. Or maybe it just enables it, I forget.

cyberczar Well …
It's kinda related to Soundflower.

I've got Soundflower, and actually that's what's prompted me to try to find
this app I used to have. ;-)

My system output device is my built-in speakers.

I'd like to redirect the output from iTunes to Soundflower 16ch

Id like to also redirect the output from Quicktime to Soundflower 16ch

However, I need to hijack MegaSeg and redirect its output to Soundflower
16ch

Then in Gizmo take it's audio input and make it Soundflower 16ch BUT it's
audio output and make it my headphones. ;-)

This is for the weekly chat shows.

Right now everything is working with Soundflower 16ch but it means each week
I really need to muck with my sound settings.

And, at some point I'd like to have a guest on the show and patch them in
through Skype.

This would mean taking the input of Skype and make it the headset but
redirect its output to Soundflower 16ch.

I know…

Complicated, right?

Thing is, I know HOW to do this, if I can just remember the name of that
damned app.

(One of the reasons why I love the Mac so much. It's so damn versatile!)

Thanks,

Mike

in FOF #772 - Mask On! - 06.03.08 on Feast of Fun
I make a point of listening to episodes with Tracy right away (of course), and she's always so much fun. Today was no exception. But what great discussions you all had today, too, especially the ones about plastic surgery and sex play vs real molestation. REALLY interesting show! Well done! But that mask thing creeps me out.

Here's some New Zealand trivia for you: Natasha Bedingfield's parents are New Zealanders, and her older brother, pop singer Daniel, was born here. And You Tube's "LonelyGirl" was Jessica Rose, who was raised in New Zealand. All that in only one episode of the FoF!

Have fun in Milwaukee!

I love it when Tracy is on... with time differences, it's the only way we can catch up! LOL. I remember the Glen story, but somehow I missed the salesman story back then. Tracy will have to tell that one next time she's on FoF. I remember Tracy in "Sweeney Todd" way back when, and she was fabulous, so I know she'll be great! Don't worry about playing a man, Tracy--it's just a part and you'll do well!

That was so sweet of Tracy to give me shout-out! I had a great time visiting her when I was in Chicago earlier this month. Actually, she was getting ready to visit the Feast of Fools Studios just as I was leaving Chicago. I've been listening to FOF for a long time and don't comment, but if Tracy's a regular, I just may have to! Love ya all!
