in Where Are the Crochet Bloggers? on Kim Werker Blog
Vashti, I understand how you feel about balancing professionalism with the desire to maintain an open and creatively honest blog. One of the things I struggle with most is maintaining the energy of inquisitive inspiration that my blog began with. When I was a new designer, I was constantly figuring things out and writing about them. Now that I'm a bit more seasoned, I'm still creatively stimulated in my work, but I'm not necessarily problem-solving as much, but I'd still like to have that spirit in my blog.
Regarding comments, I'm not sure why some blogs get millions of comments and others don't. Like you, I no longer worry about that because know my readership is there. Also, I feel privileged that my commenters are thoughtful and insightful when they do leave messages.

I'm with you, it's a success--I love how the marketing for this film has embraced its crafty audience--go out and get the book (or the graphic novel) before you go see the movie. It's great!

I get the feeling we're a little late to the Outlander game, but that it's
suddenly becoming ubiquitous! I can't wait to start it next month.

Amen! I am in the odd position of having complete coverage, like you, Kim while living in the US. Military health insurance isn't perfect, but it is good and it's free. The US already knows how to do this, they just need to do it for the whole country.

Yes! And there are many models that other countries use -- models that can
be picked from and improved upon. Nobody has to reinvent anything, here.

I can sympathize! Jay was born in winter in New Jersey. I wore a wool traveling cloak that I stole from my mom. It is super warm--the bonus is, you can also carry a new baby in a sling or front carrier and wear the cloak over it. I still wear it now in Alaska when I'm dressed up and want to stay warm.
p.s. Congratulations!!!

in Kim Werker - I think that the ability to sell books online more... on Kim Werker's Tumblr
I'm not sure why he expects to get all formats for one price, however. Are you buying a book? Or are you buying text, ideas, content. Creating each version takes investment on the part of (whatever) publisher does it, digital or otherwise, so I would expect to pay for each format. On the other hand, if I I'm buying a digital copy, I would like it to be usable on any device I chose without having to license each one separately.

I think they're two separate issues. One is what he mentions: Paying a
nominal fee for a digital version of a book you're buying in print (he does
mention paying a fee; that fee should be higher to add a print version onto
the digital version, I would think). It's up to publishers to figure out how
to make the creation of e-books not be so labour intensive when they're
already laying out print books, and I imagine the evolution of
e-book-reading technologies will go hand in hand with this.
The second is that of DRM and proprietary formats in e-book files
themselves. Publishers will do themselves well to go platform agnostic in
this sense, too. And stat.

Heh. My mom once had an old clock-radio that was still working after 20 years. She would only mention this fact in whispers, and never in the same room with the clock-radio. You never want to let your electronics know that they're getting old. Good luck!
