in The worst thing for Twitter on Scobleizer
I agree with Pedro's comment about not tampering with the brand, similar to what they did with YouTube. I also think that Google's Gmail anti-spam team would be able to mitigate the growing span issue. And I'd love to see Google bring real-time Track) back to Twitter. They could put that under the Google Alerts product and route the Track results directly into GTalk. Lots of possibilities if they do this right.

Interesting development... The founder of Twply just sold the property because their servers couldn't handle the load. Winning bid was $1200. http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/54573

in In case of disaster use Twitter? You might want to try something else. on A-List Bloggers
Twitter up-time has been outstanding for me for the past two months and it has stayed up during some major recent events, such as Obama's recent speech at the DNC.

in Twitter blames its users on Scobleizer
Robert, you're missing this half of the quote:
"Not running scripts to follow thousands of users at a time would be a help, but that’s behavior we have to limit on our side."

That is clearly not you - it's people who try to friend everybody in the world using rogue app's like this: http://www.livelybrowser.com/img/TwitterFriendA...

Hopefully Alex from Twitter will do a follow-up post to better explain what he meant by those statements.

in Twitter: grabbing defeat from the jaws of success on Scobleizer
"I’m also noticing another thing: many of my friends are answering Twitter messages in FriendFeed."

How is this any different from the model that Twitter has always had? Twitter gets 10x traffic from the API versus the Twitter web site. I use FriendFeed AND Twitter and the fact that I might respond to a message from FriendFeed is no different from me responding to a message from Twhirl.

Also, I have only chosen to follow a small percentage of the people that I'm following on Twitter (about 50 out of 600) in FriendFeed. If I followed all 600 of them it would be an information flow tsunami and it would make FriendFeed completely unusable from me. I have cherry picked about 50 people from my 600 Twitter friends and that's working very well for me. I really think Twitter and FriendFeed can coexist and complement each other. I don't see it as a competition.

Great post Robert. Everyone please stop bickering about the analogies and focus on the spirit of this post.

in Flickr’s fourth birthday “adults only” on Scobleizer
Robert, I don't don't know about the official Flickr invitationtion but the event description on upcoming.org clearly stated that this was a 21 and over venue:
http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/428084/

"Please note that this venue is 21 and above. You'll need photo ID to gain admittance at the door."

Was this inconsistent with the official Flickr invite?

in Audience of Twittering Assholes on Scobleizer
What's interesting to me about this is the amplifying effect that Twitter had on this, especially your role as a super-connector. As many people have pointed out, there has always been back-channel discussion at conferences using tools like IRC. But IRC has nowhere near the adoption that Twitter has. When someone like you sends out a series of tweets like that to nearly 13,000 people, the news starts to spread like a wildfire. Because your followers are going to tweet about it to all of their followers, and all of a sudden everyone is piling on, even people who weren't in attendance. As a result, things get blown out of proportion. I'm not disputing that the interview was bad, not suited to the audience, etc. I just thing the reaction was just way out of proportion with what really happened. You had every right to report it as you saw it but keep in mind the size of your audience. Carry on!

Leo, I'm on of those people on Twitter who loved this show. It was nice to hear some in depth discussion on RSS, Twitter vs Pownce, etc. I hope you continue to trust your gut and not allow your large audience to define your content.

in Yahoo and Apple Merger? on Marketing Pilgrim
I've always thought that Apple should partner with content providers. A Yahoo/Apple merger would result in a more limited content offering in devices such as the iPhone - e.g. the mapping application would probably change from Google to Yahoo!. The two companies that I think Apple should acquire are TiVo and Sonos.

I like his rock star exit. No hanging around for chit chat. By the way Robert, was your chat with Arrington off the record? His blog post about you planning to show ads on this site was kind of lame, especially if the conversation was off the record. Or is nothing off the record these days?

in Plaxo: the social monster? on Scobleizer
For those of you who are objecting to being added to Plaxo's database, you are probably already in their - not as a registered user but as one of your friend's / colleague's address book contacts. Let me explain...

I'm one of those people who stayed away from Plaxo several years ago because of the spam issues. I started using it again several months ago because they rolled out a free service to allow you to synchronize multiple address books: Outlook, your Apple Address Book (which synchronizes to my iPhone), etc. Right now, I have over 500 contacts in my Plaxo address book bit only about 5% of those contacts are actually registered with Plaxo. The other 95% are their for my personal use - i.e. none of them were "spammed" by Plaxo asking them to join. I have the option to invite them to join Plaxo but so far I have chosen not to do so. Long story short, many of you who are not registered with Plaxo are already in their "database" without your knowledge. And this has nothing to do with the Plaxo script that Robert ran.

in Erased on Scobleizer
Robert, while I appreciate you pushing the envelope and opening up some important discussions about data ownership, I'm bothered by your choice of the word "erase" in this blog post. The fact is, nothing was ever physically erased from your FB account. I read all of the correspondence that Facebook sent you during this episode and they were very clear that your account was SUSPENDED (not erased) because your script looked like it might be malicious. They were also very clear that the account would be reinstated if you had a good explanation for what happened or if you agreed to stop running the script. I know that this is just semantics but I think you should be more careful about the words you're choosing. And per the Terms of Use, they were not obligated to invite you back, so it seems very odd that you're going on the attack again.

OK, I got that off my chest. Have a great time at CES. I don't always agree with you but you still have my attention!

Satellite radio is hardly dead! Sirius alone has over 8 million subscribers and they continue to grow. Don't judge an entire industry based on your limited personal experience with the service.
