The employee (not a beauty
editor) spoke to a small group of lawyers at a private luncheon
without her supervisor’s knowledge or approval, and her comment —
that Afros are not work appropriate — does not represent Glamour's
point of view.

Secondly, immediately upon learning of it, we sought to rectify the
situation. The editor has been dealt with in a very serious manner,
and the entire staff has been reminded of the magazine’s policies
and procedures for making public appearances.

Glamour is proud of its diverse readership and celebrates the beauty
of ALL women. We have responded directly and openly with readers to
assure them of this fact. We have also apologized to the law firm,
and we extend the same apology to you.

Cindi Leive,
Editor-in-Chief of Glamour

Re: does black culture care about the environment?

Solution rhymes with pollution...too easy?

For more info on how this issue affects blacks, see my throwback post on Environmental Racism

Re: wearing black tomorrow, sept. 20, for jena 6

It ain't over baby, they still could be sentenced up to 15 years in jail

Re: Best/Worst Week Ever: HBCUs

Hmmm...wonder who you're referring to... :)

Chea!! Therefore, the point of the line is that any person who listens to solely hip-hop or rap music has "nigga ears," a.k.a. ears for only that type of music. It's all about expanding your taste in music and has nothing to do with what race the listener is.

...oh, and I forgot Amy Winehouse

Re: Why do people hate on Tyler Perry?

Why Did I Get Married was a great movie. What matters to me is what he does with that money. Was that $69M before or after he put in his own 10% tithes? I don't need my Pastor to drive a Civic but I also have a preference that they live a humble and modest lifestyle, which is opposite to the flamboyant flashy lifestyle that I see many wealthy Pastors living. If the leader of your church is supposed to be a reflection of how Jesus lived, what Jesus would do, and an interpretation of the sacred words of the bible, I just cannot see how that person is so extremely wealthy unless he is also giving that money to charities or back to the church. I look for a preacher who walks the walk as well as encouraging the congregation. And to me, walking the walk includes devoting time to missionary work and not just acquiring private monies.

Re: World’s Top Black Mind on Racism in America

Black pride does not equal racism. And we didn't "decide" that we weren't human (we obviously are), we were told that we weren't human during slavery when our ancestors were treated worse than dogs. One of the reasons we chose to empower ourselves with social and professional networks is to combat the vestiges of slavery and the racism that persists even today. There's no exclusion here. In fact, if you actually read past the word "black," you might have learned a thing or two.

Re: Things to be thankful for…

Don't forget we are thankful we got to travel the world and made it safely back from across the pond!

Re: ‘Legend?’ Maybe.

This movie was stressful and intense for me. (I am a product junkie too!). But why was I in the aisle for like 20 minutes trying to figure out which one to get- this one, the one for colored hair, or the one for frizzy hair? lol. Anyway, I ended up getting them all because they were on sale! Can't wait to try them out. Thanks girl.
