in Nielsen Ratings August 20, 2008 - More Olympic Dominance on TVbytheNumbers
I'm amazed to see Terminator eeked out a better audience here than earlier in the week. I think this was the night of the gold medal women's beach volleyball match. I figured all other TV viewing would CEASE while that game was on.

Robert, I think FOX may be an even bigger fan of the continuity and irony than we suspect.
Check it out, if you look back at Ausiello's scoop about renewal, he got that on April 19th, the day Skynet supposedly went online!
By the way, thanks for the mention! :-)

in FOX Renews Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles on TVbytheNumbers
For those of you curious about Raijin's trivia about T:TSCC, here is the dialogue from the Pilot.
Sarah Connor: How long have you been looking for us?
Cameron: Seventy three days.
Sarah Connor: And the war?
Cameron: The Skynet Missile Defense system goes online April 19th, 2011...declares war on mankind and triggers a nuclear apocalypse two days later.
Somebody at FOX has a really cool sense of humor. ;-)

I'm wondering about the 13 episode buy too. Probably means FOX is taking a wait and see approach. Hopefully they'll buy more as long as the show is doing good.

I'm guessing it's Comcast and the Comcast cable box. A blu-ray disc on my PS3 is visibly better than my HD over the cable box.

Bill, come on...it's a hyper-alloy combat chassis. And you call yourself a fan... ;-)
Seriously though, I don't get the worry over her either. You should see the fan boards. You'd have thought they killed her off, or FOX was using this opportunity to get rid of Summer and get another actress. Like the show would have been as popular without her, or renewed!
Robert, I agree. I'm assuming the deal was FOX getting a good price per episode, and Warner Brothers gets good press running up to their movie. There's even rumor of a plot tie-in. That's sort of why I suspect SCC is getting a full season too. The movie comes out next year. By the way any news on the DVD release? I'm assuming Warner will want that out as soon as possible so they can make up for the FOX discount early.

I love how Ausiello's saying FOX declined comment. Their coyness with this show is just annoying as anything.
But there's enough info from sources floating around out there though that I think this is about as good as it's going to get until the official line-up is released.
Taking a guess at your three questions, Robert, I'll say --
-- Mondays 8e/7c as the lead-in for a new drama
-- 22 episodes
-- Summer/Cameron will be all healed in time to go shopping for a prom dress.

in The Hollywood Reporter Dialogs with Network Executives and it looks like Sarah Connor and Summer Glau will be back! on TVbytheNumbers
Robert have you checked out the new Whedon show Dollhouse yet? I actually think that might be a pretty good pairing with Terminator. It would be almost the exact same audience demo for both shows. I think instead of a lead-in effect they might just help each other out with a bit of synergy.
I agree though FOX needs to either change the time or get the show off Mondays. Going up against Heroes would hurt.

FOX playing coy with the T:TSCC info is getting annoying. Just give the official nod already!
You can tell they're milking the buzz for renewal as much as they can. It's probably what's keeping interest in the show so high right now. Well, that and Summer...
By the way, Robert, any thoughts on what day Sarah Connor should air on for next season? Shows for lead in?

in FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Yes She Will Be Back! on TVbytheNumbers
It is odd to hear that the guy playing Sarkissian hasn't been called back yet, but Ausiello over at TV Guide had the scoop about the show runners being allowed by FOX to start booking directors, and as of today he's still acting postive.
Question: I'll give you a Smurf dipped in Diet Raspberry Snapple if you can tell me the fate of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Cashmere Mafia. — Matt
Ausiello: Most likely renewed and most likely canceled. Respectively. Now gimme my DRS-drenched Smurf!

If you're looking for all plausible explanations for how a BBT repeat pulls in more viewers than a new episode, maybe the repeat was the episode that mentioned Summer? ;-)

in No Nielsen Ratings Glory for BSG Season Four Premiere on TVbytheNumbers
I bet the buzz for the show did contribute to some viewership, just not the Season 4 premiere. As someone else noted Sci-Fi re-airs stuff all the time, so people may just figure they'll catch one of those showings, and I would also imagine a lot of new viewers were tempted to start getting into the series. Obviously one store isn't a trend, but I did see people buying the season box sets at Best Buy this weekend.

This list didn't include Knight Rider right? It debuted in the fall of 1982 I think.
I'm curious if it helped NBC get into the top 20 for the 82-83 season.

Well now I'm curious, if the lead in football game seems to be a point of contention, what would Sarah Connor's 18-49yr demo numbers look like without the premiere? Would it drop to 25? 30? Top 50?

in Britney vs. Paris: Who Means More to the Nielsen Ratings? on TVbytheNumbers
I would like to see Paris win this showdown. But unfortunately I think Britney has too much of the tabloid/train-wreck thing going for her still and may win it on that effect alone.
Now if only there was some way to get Summer Glau a guest appearance while Terminator is off the air...maybe a spot on Big Bang Theory to follow-up the shout-out from the other day.

Glad to see Heroes is coming back. I read one article though that speculated an actor strike might actually do that series in. Hope that doesn't happen. I'd really like to see that show get back some of the magic that made Season One so cool.
I'm also a bit surprised to see that NBC decided to bank on Knight Rider. The TV movie apparently got great ratings, but it wasn't really that good. I wonder if they aren't mistaking viewer curiosity for enthusiasm?

It looks like Idol slipped a few million viewers. Not that that matters, considering it still crushes everything, but I seem to recall it was recently up around 28-29 million.
Robert, Bill - I was curious about show placement on FOX. What days does the network consider it's prime spot? Is it the Monday spot, where 24 used to sit? Or does FOX consider Idol days it's premier days? I'm just thinking about placement for TSCC next season, where FOX might put it if they're serious about a fall spot.

in Nielsen Ratings Mon March 31: CBS Goes Young vs. ABC on TVbytheNumbers
I don't see NA making it to next season. FOX is still holding the ax over Terminator, and it has more viewers and a much stronger showing in the 18-49yr demo.
And to the people saying that Summer Glau is not considered attractive, I say that is just ridiculous. She pretty much is the uber-"it" girl for sci-fi fans, and most any guy will tell you she is absolutely beautiful. She totally owns the Very Scary Robot role on Terminator too. Josh Friedman basically wrote that role for her, and I think it's her best acting yet.
By the way, speaking of buzz, I think that shout out to Terminator on Big Bang Theory last week bodes well for the series. It shows it's permeating into pop culture enough that it's part of the mythology now. You can bet Warner Brothers is paying attention since their stake in T4 and the series is so large. FOX needs to hurry up and pick this series up. Building up more audience with re-runs and DVDs over the summer would help launch Season Two big time.

Just for the episodes, that's high. However, if the DVD set for Terminator contains a commentary or interview with Summer Glau, I will totally buy it. Price is no object.
