I love this video! I remember when that was big news up here the Northwest.

The funny thing is even though we live in the northwest, the cities like Seattle and Portland and south where I live in oregon, don't really get any snow. So you see in this video a whole bunch of people that don't know how to drive in snow. And it was really icy, so that adds to the fun!

I love it when we get our annual inch and the entire town literally shuts down. Cracks me up!

Both Jeff and Alastair have great comments.

If you want increased readership, definitely comment other places. I always check out the blog of a commentor.

If you want to encourage conversation, definitely respond on your own blog. I didn't used to comment that much on my own blog, but last fall I changed that and now there is a conversation on every post.

For me, if someone comments to me after I have commented on their blog, I fell welcome and will most definitely return.

Another thought on that is how you write your posts. I found if I am just telling people something, they tend not to respond. If I am writing so as to look for advice or thought, I usually get response.

I am a part of a church plant. When we planted our church, there was nothing like who we are in our area. But, since then, I have seen 10-15 different little plant that were either totally not thought through or exactly like the church down the street. I never got that? Why? Why not just join the church a block away doing exactly the same thing.

I could think of 100 places that this giglio/tomlin church could be very effective. And those areas need it.

Personally I have a real hard time with categories. People aren't that simple. Experiences and lives are different.

Jeff has brought up a really important aspect of this whole "marriage" discussion. Marriage is a Godly instituted agreement. What the state has done with it has nothing to do with what God intends it to be. the state cannot take away or change the covenant of marriage that God has instituted. No matter what they decide to do with it.

I love Flickr and have never found something I can't do with it. I use iPhoto to catalog and categorize all my photos. it integrates with Flickr and uploads them for backup.

Alex, I agree that emotion needs to be a part of decisions. Eric I hear your concern over emotion being the driving force.

But more than that for me is the responsibility of influence. Damon has a huge influence on people. He's a famous actor and to do what he did here is completely irresponsible. Whether his cause is good or bad, it creates inauthentic chaos. Herding sheep. What scares me is that people do listen to this and agree based on the speaker and who knows, he could be herding them right off a cliff.

Pastor's have the law to hold us accountable to political influence, but we can still abuse it as well. We have to be responsible.

Like tam said, I was at Hume for jr high and high school and then went back as a it high counselor. The first "all nighter" I had with tam was the night before I left to Hume to lead our it high group. Crazy!

We used to own a couple Hoel Weldon discs and I still remember some of his tune. My favorite was Romans 8:38.

The greatest influence Hume had on it life was volleyball and video production. I lived all of Thor video work that was always set to a great Joe Satriani tune.

I started messing with the beta this last week. I think it will be very useful. I can see how the more data you have to input the more value the program will be. It will take some time to really compile the data as well. but after a couple of months of input. i tiwll be really interesting to see what we come up with.

Ummm, I agree. Everyone has to take responsibility for their own actions. No where in my comment did I dispute that. Here's the issue though. I may affect 20-30 people who care for me and respect me. Damon can affect 100's of thousands that care for him and respect him. Even more than that, Damon is an iconic figure, which means that his thoughts are taken as gospel in people's minds. Many people live star struck and what stars say, goes. That's scary. Besides, we are talking about Damon here...not the sheep.

Insulting? Hardly. Many would be proud to say they are voting like Damon. They love him, they idolize him. What he says is gospel. That's what many people do with people of his popularity. Yes to all of the above, based on action. If Damon's hope is to bash the right so that the left will win, then he needs to be accountable for his actions. If I, or others choose to blindly follow him, then I, or others should be held accountable for my actions.

What many people do(and in my opinion, Damon has done here) is to create hype so as to encourage some sort of action. When the hype is so strong that it creates chaos, that concerns me. When i said this, my point was to say that people are reacting over hype, not because of what they believe, but because of what someone else has said they should believe. That is my beef with this.

By the way, let me add here. This goes for any side of the coin. If a conservative chose to make a video like this (which they have) I would react the same way. Show me those videos and I'll tell you the same thing.

Also, so you know, I am voting independent...

People like Damon and others who have followers, need to be cautious

Honestly, I have had been using it for about a year and now have it in my iPhone, but I haven't dug into it. I've used it more as a bookmarking app. When i see something online or around town, I link to it, take a pic, whatever.

As for to-do lists. I absolutely love Remember the Milk. I love how it integrates into everything I use. google, iPhone, Desktop. This is probably why I haven't used Evernote to it's potential.

If you dig into it, pots about it and show us how your using it.

Anyway, PC's and Mac's on the network is all about the network itself. we are going through hell right now, because we are beginning to integrate Mac's into our network and our network was never built to operate with Mac's. if your company will allow it, it is only because your network in its form (without need for software o hardware upgrades) will work with Mac's. Otherwise, they probably aren't looking just at the cost of your Mac, but also the cost of a bunch of server upgrades.

I am sure you'll get this from a bunch of people, but the iPhone actually does do video. especially with the new version. There are multiple applications that will be available once the Apple app store is open. I've been using 2 different video recorders on my version 1 iPhone for a couple of months now. I do have a jailbroken iPhone, but the new ones will have these apps available. They cost me $10. However, i am not sure if we will be able to use those same apps to do a live stream. the video camera would probably have to be built in versus using an application to do this.

Anyway, would have been very cool to be at this event. Nicely done.

Jeff I am SO here right now!!!

I really believe some of the connections I have made through the blogging world are happening because I a finding so many like minded and unsettled leaders going through similar things I am.

What can we do? I think it is more than just being innovative or creative. I look around my environment and realize there is so much more to do.

I had a job application laid in my lap the other day for a church on the other side of the country. I got real excited and thought about it and then I audibly heard God say to me, "look around you...what have you done with what I've already given you?". That hit me hard. I know for me, I have too often looked somewhere else in hopes of learning something and then lost focus on ever putting it to practice right where I am. I have to do that better.

I think it has to be more than doing something cool. Like you said Jeff, we have to set a fire underneath those we lead. I know that we can't lead someone to a place we've never been , so i know we each, as leaders have to dig deeper and allow God's fire to overtake us, so that others see that and follow.

I also, think we are quick to teach or fix, but often are not listening. I think there needs to be more listening in the blog world, which in turn will lead to some great accountability and counsel.

I know I need to be more faithful to sharing my heart and I think that could help.

What else???

Lots to chew on and think through, but I think you nailed it. Our God looks on the heart. He only disapproves of our worship when our heart is wrong.

Piggy backing something that Sean just said regarding,

"how you said that the one that hasn’t lived their week worshiping God isn’t worshiping during the service."

I think as a leader that I believe with this statemnet. But not for those in the congregation, I see Sean's point. I think of it from the leaders perspective. I don't believe a leader can lead someone to a place they've never been. I believe that those on stage will only take others as far or as deep as they have been themselves. The weekend should be an outpouring of the prior weeks life from the leader.

I would be one to stray from the glasses. To me, if they are not for actually blocking the sun, there has always been an attitude behind them. That's fine. If they are worn indoors, it is clearly for a fashion statement. I tend to believe that we can set aside our personal statements while we are attempting to declare God's.

It's funny that I read this as I am thinking through how to better organize my life.

They both have their place, but I think where I get in trouble is organizing my walk with Christ. I try to plan it or believe I need to do this or that. I am trying to learn how to dig into Him, while allowing Him to direct my path. It's hard. I will never lose the wonder.

And I'm a Tam fan, but she didn't send me here :)

I am one of those that is blessed with the iPhone. Haha. I can't imagine having to use a web based Twitter app, because of all the great options I have now. I use Twitterfon to death on my iPhone and even tweet from the phone more than I do from the computer.

I am a Spinvox user and a HUGE fan, but I have yet to try text to tweet. I need to give it a shot though. Oregon (where I reside) is thinking of going to non-mobile phone/while driving law soon, so I better get used to it.

Mark, check out Twitterfon or Tweetie for iPhone. Both are packed full of features and both have Retweet ability.

Also, check out Pixelpipe for sending pics from iPhone to twitter. It allows you to send pics to any social network or photo sight. Very flexible and Very slick!

I am curious. What you get for the $499? Software, Plug Ins, Track Count, Sample Rates, Interface?

Just curious. Maybe we could then match it against the $500 Mbox pus software and see what compares.

I like both. I have never used Logic in a larger studio environment, cause it isn't there and there is so much depth to after market products for Pro tools, that it is still a standard. I like how Logic feels though. It is a much better program for music production. Simpler and more efficient.

I am curious apples to apples, what we are looking at though.

I should clarify. If you are using a DAW for the first time. Logic isn't simpler necessarily, but everything is in one place so things are easier to get to, where Pro Tools may be more specialized in specific areas.

Louis, I'll jump in since I know Fred is offline today.

To get multiple tracks of material in the computer, you need an interface that will allow multiple inputs. Both Pro Tools and Logic allow for multiple tracks, but neither of them at the $500 price allows for enough inputs. At that price you would basically have between 2-8 inputs. This is where Logic would excel though. For probably around $1000 Logic would allow an interface to be used for up to about 16 tracks. Pro tools would require a lot more money to get it to this point. Read...thousands of dollars.

So, Logic for under $2k could allow a pretty flexible system for worship recording.

Regarding the revival, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I watched one of the live services the other night. My issue is not whether or not God is able, but more about whether the teaching and claiming going on has anything to do with God.

I think this is a good discussion.

We don't have anything in place, but it would be good for us to talk about it as some of our guys get going blogging.

My opinion though is there should not be a policy. I think their is something valuable to the honesty of blogs. A policy might actually hinder some people from being themselves. If they cause issues, their are most likely already employer.employee policies in place that would cover blog issues.

Fred, I feel your pain. And I am serious about that.

This weekend was similar to us. One of our services was just dead! I know for sure it wasn't in regards to what was happening on the stage. the other services were well received with lots of participation and involvement. This service just was dead.

I've continue to evaluate how we lead and how we encourage participation, but I generally do not get overly concerned unless an entire weekend feels down. If one service is out of place, it is not the norm.

With all that said, I am praying everyday about how I can encourage authentic participation and how I can continue to focus on my responsibility in it and not worry as much about others. Definitely a balance. Definitely difficult.

Hey travis and Fred, are you guys running A weighted Slow or fast? Also are you using a system like Smaart or using a common DB meter, like the ones from radio Shack.

I know when we did some testing, that the Radio shack DB meters were the best for reliability, but not completely accurate.

Willow is running 92-95 with a Smaart system, which translated out to us at about 97-100 on our radio shack meter. We ran a test with the 2 side by side in our room and that's what we got.

We run 95db A weighted/slow and it is just right. of course, room size matters as well for feeling and we are definitely smaller at about 750 seats.

So, I started to comment over at TWC, but I thought I'd just ask the question here.

Is division really about different groups of people, or is about loss of focus on the one true God? As I read the original postat TWC, I saw that there was disunity as a concern, but it was clear that what was leading that disunity was not the different groups, but the different focus. I think we are quick to point out the wrong in styles and like and dislikes, when none of it matters if God is the center. Clearly, I am in unity with my brothers in Africa or Europe when we worship the same God. Even though I will never worship the same way (stylistically) or in the same place.

Paul kept leading us back to one thing. Stay focused on God. He then went on to teach us how to look good and relate to those around us. But he was quick to admonish when the church did not keep God as the head and focus.

I think our focus here needs to be on that. We are doing that poorly. Then hold whatever service or however many services you want.

Geez, I am getting in on this way late. Didn't read through all the comments, but I'll give you my thoughts.

In our community, I am seeing the opposite. the older generation knows we are changing. They know times are different. They also know that their idea of church is limited to almost being unavailable. There is a changing of the wind that I see. Older are more apt to "deal" with the new.

I am more inclined to see an older person visit a newer more contemporary church than I am to see a younger person visit an older traditional church.

The people serving in our church, giving in our church and generally participating in our church are the older people. I don't get asked to do hymns anymore. I'm told by younger people that they don't like the hymns.

I am sure there are those in both camps that are different than what i am saying. but for our church which is contemporary, modern and aggressive in music. I see the older generation flexing...not the younger.

Good post Fred, I agree with Deanne above me, but from a slightly different perspective.

I don't think as Christians we are reclaim the government. I think we are to shine in culture and in turn watch God change the hearts and minds of those around us. In this, everything will change. Social issues, Sin issues, Politics.

I hear you as well Fred. I find myself often praying about what I think is wrong or needs prayer, when in reality, it is me that needs to be changed. All of a sudden ,y prayer changes perspective and my heart is truly drawn to what God's heart is drawn towards.

I will commit as you have to praying honestly for Obama and our country as we walk through an historical time.
