We do need to hold the theists attention and the only way to do that is discuss, not argue. They have had recalls all the way up to 2006. Maybe they got all the bugs worked out, maybe the '07 and '08 models don't have enough miles on them to expose their weaknesses. I think I would wait awhile before I consider a Victory. They are friggin ugly too. Did you see their bagger?
References :

Re: Modern vs. Contemporary

Great input. Anyone else have any input?

Did Marcel Duchamp have anything to do with making the line between the two clearer? Or was there any specific artists like Manet for Modern? If I remember correctly Duchamp was the heavyweight of contemporary. His R. Mutt piece caused such controversy on what was art?, that it redefined everything.

Re: Mew Zee, Um

Agreed. If St. Louis can do it there's no reason Jacksonville can't do it.

Agreed. Starting small is probably the best plan of attack.

Having a flat file registry for all local and regional contemporary artists that was curated might be easy to do. How would something like that be implemented and where would it be stored?

Is there a way to get the cultural council to look at concepts? Is there a review process.

PS1 was mentioned and that's an amazing place. www.ps1.org. Great history of supporting emerging art. I think that was the first place Basquiat showed.

Now it's an annex of the Moma but for thirty five years showed cutting edge emerging artists from all over. Here's a little bit off of their site:

P.S.1 was founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss as The Institute of Art and Urban Resources Inc., and was primarily dedicated to the transformation of abandoned and underutilized buildings in New York City into exhibition, performance, and studio spaces for artists. Today, P.S.1 operates two internationally acclaimed spaces for contemporary art: P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City and the Clocktower Gallery in Lower Manhattan, both of which contain museum- quality galleries and extensive studio facilities.

We have plenty of spaces that could qualify as abandoned and underutilized buildings.

Thirty five years ago it was just a concept.

Agreed. This this could be a catalyst for existing organizations to start brainstorming on ways to help the local artists. No reason at all we can't work together.

Re: Pushing a stroller through coolness.

roman. We see this building, with its great architecture, tenant mix and location, as becoming the new retail and entertainment hub of downtown Jacksonville, “said Tony

Allegretti, one of the project’s partners.

This project is significant as it results in increasing the tax base by having a vacant public building, currently not on the tax rolls, being developed into an improved privately-owned structure, with no city incentives being utilized.

“This offering of a mixed-use project providing residential, retail and entertainment continues to add to the critical mass needed to build momentum for downtown,” said Mayor Peyton.

“The addition of the proposed retail to the area will create vitality at the street level and further engage pedestrians enjoying Jacksonville’s revitalized downtown.”

Main Branch plans to have the confirmed stores open within a year.

Re: Circles

contemporary art is as much about pop culture as it is art history

Re: Circles

Lets hype it up to Art it up!

I'm down with it. I then work digitally on the photos drawing as I see fit. The digital photos are then printed and glued onto 6x4 inch canvases. The drawings are organic, ghostly, oozing illustrations. Hopefully creating another dimention.

To me the work is about my neighborhood being alive. I feel that the houses on my block have stories. Ghosts in the windows. That my block is a living breathing organism.

I want to be part of that organism. Being surrounded by war and death in the media this work is an attempt at going back to the womb. Seeing the beauty around me. Attempting to become a part of it.

When I'm done there will be 31 houses. It will be an illustration of my block. My life at this moment in time. Taking pride in it.

This hippie lovey dovey work will be showing at Bogda next month.

Re: Concepts

Hi Mark,

I'd definitely be interested in borrowing it.

Thanks for the input. Sometimes I believe artist just have to create, regardless of anything else. Other inputs.

Then afterwards I often times find out that the work was part of something much larger. Part of the collecive unconscious.

So it's nice to create blindly then find out that there's a whole human historical thought process or philosophy attached to those thoughts or creative process.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Concepts

Shazam James. Interesting to get inside your head for a bit.

What I find interesting is that the catalyst for this series was a Lexus ad. Interesting to look at the ads copy and to pull what you did from it.

Having worked in advertising for several years I can tell you that most copy writers would be very proud that their words moved you to make a fine art piece as they all generally think of themselves as "fine artist".

Utopia lost. Utopia found.

To me, the true utopia is in our heads and hearts. Regardless of how our culture trys to construct it.

That's a great point. You might not be able to change things by making art but you can at least try. Glad you are trying.

Re: Concepts

Sometimes an artist must react and create or the work will never get made too. I'm a bloggin fool though. I do like the idea of this one having all contributors as administrators though. Power to the people sort of thing.

A lot of blogs I don't feel like really posting on their sites but if I had the option to it would be interesting. Make me feel like I'm part of a community. That's why My Space is really cool. Being able to comment on others pages.

I don't mind the name JaxCAL. If the google thing is an issue it's not that hard to get to the top of the rankings. jaxcal.com would be pretty easy to beat I would think.

I think the .org domain is good for this sort of site too.

I did see a lot of art blogs off of http://chelseaartgalleries.com/bloglist/
<b... I've visited but I don't check them regularly.

thanks Mark. I'll check those out pronto. Have you seen chelseaartgalleries.com. Pretty extensive.

I do think this art blog could be something pretty special though if we all continue to contribute. I have gotten a sense of community through this in the last few weeks that I haven't felt in Jacksonville before. So that can't be a bad thing.

I'm pretty proud of all everyone contributing and making this what it is even though it's not even a month old. It's been pretty interesting to watch it grow.

Re: GIT YER ART BLAWRGS ON!!!!

http://www.artfagcity.com/

Your post made me look around a bit. To tell you the truth I think we are losing a lot of our best creatives to this very problem. I myself am looking at MFA programs around the country as we speak as I've always wanted to teach at the college level.

I'm not saying I'm one of our best but how many others have left to go to school not to return? I know that one of Mark Creegan's buddies just moved up to UNC to go to school. How many others are leaving and not returning? Will he return with the knowledge he gains to improve Jax? I doubt it. Mark is probably a minority in that he returned back to Jax?

I know UNF has talked about this for decades now, and it seems a little ridiculous to say it's a funding issue. If the program was five students it would be a program. How many more professors need to be hired for a small MFA class? I don't think any myself. Other schools teach dual BFA, MFA courses.

Why does USF,and UCF have programs but UNF doesn't? What gives?

I really think I need to hear a better excuse than funding. Where there's a will there's a way. Isn't that what people say?

Is there a will? Is there a way?

Re: Lets make this happen!

that is some really great input James. being an alumni of FSU I can attest to the benefit of having studio space. I couldn't believe that UNF BFAers don't have studios? but the raw, hot, almost unbareable space that is the FSU BFA warehouse would seem to be easily duplicated with all the space that Jax has at it's disposal. It would be interesting if the art department moved off campus and into the urban core. that would definitely be a positive for downtown and the arts in general if there were MFA, and BFA warehouse studio spaces in the mix.

I believe if someone was to donate a building for this very cause it could be a major catalyst for Jax culture in general.

We can come up with ideas to we are blue in the face about how to improve Jax Arts but unless there is someone who can help us write grants, talk to the ones with money, talk to the ones who can make the change then we are really just sort of having fun aren't we?

Can we expect to put ideas out into cyperspace and have those ideas really affect physical change? Sorry. I definitely would love there to be an MFA program here. A great one. I really have no idea how or where to start?

Does anyone know where to begin?

Re: Lets make this happen!

Great news Sharla. That's definitely a place to start.

To tell you the truth the best way to do this would probably be for you to draught it since you've already started it seems and have James Green and Mark Creegan wordsmith it as they are both amazing writers.

My take on it.

James and Mark are you down for donating your skills for the cause?

Yes.

Sticks and Stones can break my bones, but Words can change the world.

Agreed.

Re: Lets make this happen!

I'll put my two cents in. Thanks for the input on your process. It's great to get inside your head for a second.

really glad to see you joined JaxCAL. This is a great start towards tearing down perceived invisible walls that exist in Jacksonville between local artists.

I am definitely glad you were honest and we were able to start a dialogue. I think one of the problems is folks are scared to be honest about how they feel here and then these walls get built. I really see JaxCAL as an open forum for discussion for evolving Jacksonville contemporary art. Folks shouldn't be scared to say exactly what they want here or anywhere. I'm glad we have been able to put this behind us.

Just give us a holler when you feel like meeting up and we can discuss creating a new space. We have a list of show ideas already. Some of them are rather interesting and could really help stir the pot.

Let's keep communicating. Please feel free to post and invite anyone you want here. It's your blog. It's our blog, so on and so forth.

Everyone is an administrator.

cheers Jim.

bk

Re: Call to Artists

http://www.wizzlewolf.com/

Here's Sheree's url. Curated videos. Maybe use those little media players. Have them on the walls and have the viewer have to put in ear phones to listen to each piece. I'm sure someone is doing this show right now somewhere.

Re: PORTENT, I SAID PORTENT

A little bird told me it's going to be a great show :)

Very importent.

Re: PORTENT, I SAID PORTENT

Location:
1535 San Marco Blvd.

Jacksonville

Florida

U.S.

32207

Email:

PedestrianProjects@comcast.net

Re: While I Was Away

it was great Madeleine.

Aimee had hotdogs for the homeless.

Brittni had a memorial for Eva Hesse the artists.

I did the a trophy soldier memorial where folks could submit prayers for peace.

we took the street on the back side of Hayden Burns opposite of Starbucks. There are three circular bench like areas where trees are.

The installs were in those three areas. Amazing to think something can be five hundred years old and still relevant and actually semi-contemporary.

To me it's all about doing your own thing. Trying to break down boundaries and molds. Asking the right questions. To provoke dialogue. To learn something about yourself and the world around you. To force the viewer to think. Possibly for himself or herself.

If you can do that in a beach scene then you're a bad ass in my book.

Re: Mid-week pick-me-up

Nina was so powerful.

Re: Contempoary Installation Art

I had to put it up. It does have a wow factor though that's for sure.

Seems like they are only tools that could be used to actually say somethin more. That's my take on it.

If maybe he used the wind animals to actually do something that was planned and orchestrated. Or maybe followed a path that was symbolic of something more, then he might have something a bit more powerful.

Not sure. The world doesn't seem to want powerful art anymore anyway so I'm sure he's doing very well with this work. People seem to want to forget about all the atrocities in the world and look at something with a cool factor to it.

Re: Gynormous Crawly Things = GENIUS!

yeah it's cool alright. uber cool.

maybe I'm being a bit harsh.

maybe there's more to it than what I'm seeing.

I fluctuate from year to year on needing to see lots of concept behind the work and not needing to see that. So maybe I should just love the wow factor of it and that should be enough?

not sure?

thanks for posting it for sure.

Re: Gynormous Crawly Things = GENIUS!

we were many and now we are few.

what happened to the amazing commentary and contribution from this blog's genesis?

i felt so alive back then.

those were the days.

Re: Gynormous Crawly Things = GENIUS!

http://www.garthclark.com/artists/artists.php?i... Notkin is an artist I've noticed as of late that has been making war related art since Vietnam. His work is different, and very interesting

in interviews. Very down to earth and passionate.

I don't have a favorite color, favorite song, book or artist. I look at work and either it works for me, and engages me or it doesn't. If it engages me then I try to see what was the intent behind the work. Probably just like any average viewer of art.

There has to be a wow factor then I stop and see what the work was intended to be about. If I stop and I don't get anything more than a Wow factor after further investigation then it comes off flat to me and I feel sort of robbed.

Since high school I've always been a big fan of Kathe Kollwitz.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathe_Kollwitz

This piece works.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guernica_(painting)

I've admired

Robert Rauschenberg,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Rauschenberg,

David Salle,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Salle

Gerhard Richter

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerhard_Richter

And I was forced to recognize Leon Golub's work in college:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Golub

And I saw a retrospective of his work at the Brooklyn Museum in 2000. Powerful large scale political paintings.

I recently was really touched by the PBS documentary of photographer James Nachtwey, http://www.jamesnachtwey.com/ I believe his work was a real subconscious kick in the ass for me. The documentary is very powerful and I definitely recommend viewing it. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/gergen/jan-june00/n... for more to read.

I'm not saying all work has to address war, famine, genocide, but by not addressing them the work is saying something also. Of course there is a place for beauty in art, but I do believe that an artist that is purely using beauty for a vehicle to express his idea of the world is living in a vacuum. Especially now when there's a war going on and huge icebergs are about to drop into the ocean and split our continent in half.

Re: DC Stimulates Artist Communities

yeah. definitely a great post Zac. I'd love to but don't have enough time to tie my shoes these days.

definitely would volunteer a few hours a week if someone would like to start collaborating on something like this.

Re: DC Stimulates Artist Communities

googled around and found this.
www.coloradoartscenter.org/Colorado%20Arts%20Center%20Initiative.ppt

worth a read. a lot of reserach on the subject was done for this document.

seems this type of thing is really great for attracting foot traffic back into cities urban cores.

Re: Sculpture Park Anyone

I mean come on. Always have been. It's a love hate deal though. I lived there five years and it changed my life.

I look at things like a New Yorker does now. Or at least I think so.

It is the center of the world not just the art world if you ask me.

Regardless of if you like the art work coming out of there or not.

Of course how could anyone say for certain.

I feel any artist should live there for a bit.

Just my take on things.

Glad you got to Chelsea. It hasn't impressed me lately. I go each year for a visit up there to see family.

cheers.

Re: Zune + Arts + Microsoft = Strange Brew?

great post. right on.

wonderful. beautiful. The only

thing is it has a product behind it. sponsored

for the product but in the process brings great

art to the public.

The advertising I'm interested in these

days has become just like this. The more

vague the better. The problem is the old

dinosaur creative directors aren't getting it yet.

They still want to pop their price point and

use huge copy. If more advertising used

art as a vehicle to get more folks interested

in the products then maybe advertising wouldn't

be so intrusive and such a waste of the public

space.

It takes balls for agencies to stand up to their

clients and tell them what will work. If not hit

the road jack.

Re: Jax Media Collab

Thanks Sharla. I think at some point an artist

has to say I'm doing this because it's where my heart is, and the direction

I want my work to go in. regardless of art history. sometimes a knowledge

of art history can be a downfall for someone because it taints their immediate

reaction to the world. continual references and shout outs to other artists that an artist

can do without even knowing it.

I like the cow painting.

Re: Interesting read

Well I would hope Artists can curate shows. I do feel it's sort of my obligation to educate. But where does one start? Especially with someone who adores Thomas Kinkaid, Painter of Light.

Maybe it really is just another world we live in. I'm still trying to explain what I do to my family and they've known me since the beginning. I'm still dealing with them rolling their eyes and as they glaze over.

I like the article James put up about Artist as Public Intellectual. He passed this to me a few months ago. I don't particularly like the title Public Intellectual as it seems a bit elitist. I am right on with her definition of it though. I really wish there was a place for artists as thinkers and philosophers in our society.

On NPR yesterday I heard of a new breed of rap that's catching on. It's called Conscious rapping. It's about being conscious of your role as a public figure. The power of the spoken word and how it has the power to change the world. It seems Conscious rapping has caught on and a handful of successful rappers are stepping up and talking about issues that could possibly not get them anywhere commercially.

An interesting title might be Conscious Artist. Being aware. Trying to make a difference. Of course we could play with the title all day but the concept of artist as thinker, philosopher, social activist is where I would like the general public to see artists. How to get there? I suppose the best bet is to focus on the work ourselves and the rest will fall into place.

And maybe the path of least resistance for those who are too far out of the philosophy to get it? But then maybe being an artist is sort of like spreading the gospel and if there really is a message to be had we should step down off our mountain top and deliver it to the masses? I'm not quite sure what direction to go with it. Maybe it's not something that has to be decided now but chosen when the situation presents itself?

cheers..

bk

Re: Back to School for JaxCAL

James, I posted this comment on my earlier Post but it addresses this post also so I reposted here... Thanks for posting this article. Maybe I could borrow Dr. Becker's book from you sometime?

............

maybe the path of least resistance is the best path for situations like this. I do feel it's sort of my obligation to educate. But where does one start? Especially with someone who adores Thomas Kinkaid, Painter of Light.

Maybe it really is just another world we live in. I'm still trying to explain what I do to my family and they've known me since the beginning. I'm still dealing with them rolling their eyes as they begin to glaze over.

Maybe it's not something that has to be decided now but chosen when the situation presents itself?

cheers..

bk

Re: Back to School for JaxCAL

roger.

well she does point to the fact eventually in the article that she believes artists should considered public intelectuals.

regardless of what it's called it's the core concepts that she's talking about that I believe we as a culture should focus on.

we should redefine the word artist.

Re: Back to School for JaxCAL

I guess I was jumping the gun a bit James.

I suppose it really doesn't matter what she calls it. It's the topics she's addressing.

How do we ourselves create the redefining action she is talking of though?

Focus on the work? Be educate on current events, politics, literature, science, philosophy, etc., etc. where the general public will be automatically drawn to our "Wisdom?"

How do we take this "Wisdom?" and present it to the public in a way that it doesn't seem elitist and pompous? In the end the general public will have to get what you are saying or care enough about the work to want to learn about your message. If not then your message will be lost and no roles will be redefined.

We risk distancing ourselves even more from the public if the work is not easily accessible.

Re: Back to School for JaxCAL

I'd definitely be interested in this. I couldn't do but one powerpoint brief a year though as my concepts are evolving rather slowly these days. It takes time to pull together a body of work.

So count me in for one presentation annually if this actually happens. Great idea James.

Re: Back to School for JaxCAL

Actually it would be something that would seem to function more in an Arts Center versus a Museum. Am I wrong?

Why don't we reserve this type of function for the Beaver Arts Center?

Re: What do we need?

Okay. I used fecalface.com and ourartsite.com as examples not for the artwork on there but for the functionality. I do like a lot of the work on there though. Look how fecalface.com has user galleries. that's a great feature I think.

any functions like that that you see around on the web that could make our art community stronger. definitely tell me and I'll look at how we can make it happen. Maybe a calendar that people can automatically update with show events?

I thought chat room because often times I feel like we are sort of using this as a chat room. seems so anyways. I know they have a really bad reputation but with the right group (us) I think one would be really helpful.

Re: What do we need?

great input Zac. I'm glad you like the idea. thanks you for commenting. I think it could be a very powerful tool for bringing us all closer together. I didn't see JaxCAL other than what it is at first, but now that it has actually evolved a bit I see there being more functionality that would be of great use to all of us.

.......

The site should have an artist portfolio area and maybe a comprehensive list of gallery spaces, alternative/temporary spaces, and show opportunities. We could have a calender to keep each other informed of upcoming shows, call-to-artists, and grant deadlines

.......

This is about the same page I was on with it. I definitely want to keep the core of it simple and have it be like it is now. A place for people to post ideas and get feedback. I do like the idea of having a wiki like tool for the art history of Jax that has the edit functions you mentioned.

I really appreciate the input. I'm going to get started on something with the functionality you and I have spoke about. I won't mess with this site until it's slick as grease lightning. Maybe I could run it by you when I have something to show you if you don't mind?

I'll have to check out the rest of those social networking sites you mentioned. The problem with social networking sites is that they are too big I believe. I mean I love My Space (sorry) and the fact that I can make contact with someone in Japan or Mexico is amazing. But it'd be really nice if I knew the artists I'm talking to are within driving distance. It makes me feel like we're all building more of a local network that is a neighborhood more or less. I mean Zac, I know we eventually will meet. I would think.

Anyways. Thanks so much. If anyone else has any input please do tell as I'm going to be outlining the sites requirements now. I'm going to be using Joomla if anyone knows web stuff. Open Source revolution meets Emerging Arts. I think it could work, or at least help.

Re: What do we need?

Yeha, you're right. I don't think what we're talking about is really reinventing social networking at all. I mean noone can really compete with My Space for that and that's not what I'm talking about really. Some of the functionality is similar though and I can see why Zac said that. Very similar actually. But what I'm talking about is really just taking what we have here and adding the essential elements that we need to be one click away for the rest of it.

Keep it a community site, but have all the functions we need as a community.

Thanks you guys for the input. Glad you both are interested in learning more about Jax History. I am also. I did a lot of traveling in my life. there seems to be a lot I missed while alive. And a hell of a lot when on before I was born in 74'.

It would be amazing to have a full acount of names and places that really made it happen. So we know where we are headed. It's very powerful to know the past.

thanks again...

Re: What do we need?

Zac,

Thanks man. That's a perfect example of a calendar tool that's successful. It's been hard for me to find the right one. I'll keep looking though. Lots of them out there that's for sure. That's the slickest one I've seen in a long time though.

Thanks again. I am moving forward with this that's for sure. Might take me a couple of months before I launch it though.

Keep your eyes pealed.

Re: Interesting

well I guess things changed since 1994? 911 happened? I definitely know that we've taken our eyes off the prize. I was in the Army and remember when they announced we were going to war with Iraq. I was on duty. Everyone I was working with on that shift looked at each other like what the F? Most of us had joined up to help go after Osama. Of course there are the ones who joined just for the GI Bill.

It's such a strange situation we have ourselves in. We are living in very historical times. Who knows what the world will be like when my little girl grows up.

That's why I think it should be our role as contemporary artists to make work that counts. That has concepts that make people think about the greater good. Positive change. Engages thought. That asks the important questions. I might not be serving my country anymore but I'm serving my humanity. Again just a simple mind at work.

It really is the Twilight Zone isn't it?

Re: Interesting

Cheney seemed very sensical in 94'. I don't know what happened to him? Our military even wrote a How To book for war in the middleast and we haven't followed it?

http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/195605

I thought we learned from history?

Isn't that why we have historians to force us to remember the lessons learned. The first thing I do before I do anything is research it. Even before buying a product. Can't imagine not following a book written on a specific topic by my own organization?

Wish we had our old Cheney back...

Re: The Skyway

yeah, it was good family time indeed. I'm not sure if it's the right place or not for an arts district but it seems to be the most logical place at the moment. Especially since there's the new library, MOCA Jax, and so on and so forth. If you wanted to think of the Miami Arts District, maybe something like Brooklyn in Riverside would be better since there are huge cheap warehouse spaces.

I'm all for an Arts District downtown though. Especially after seeing how the Skyway can be used to alleviate parking problems.

The assemblage work in the UF MFA show is strange. Forget the artist's name, but it's worth checking out. found objects, household objects, with little drawings, and on little shelves. all clean, and the subject matter was biomorphic in nature. reminded me of cellular growth. no subject matter. shapes, and colors. sort of out of a design magazine, with a retro feel, but new. really you should go next week for the free day and check it out Zac. sort of worth the drive I think. I had to see it twice before I liked it though?

yeah, Jax has a lot to offer. really was nice to do the two free museum days back to back. The Cummer is amazing. I find my tastes are leaning more towards the old the more new I see. There's just a, "How did they do that factor" that I don't get in the newer works.

Re: The Skyway

Yeah Lara,

What's going to happen in that doctor's office? They looked worried for sure. I find it interesting how his signature is smudged.

The whites in the painting pop. I wish I could see more of his work.

Here's a site I just googled about him: http://www.nrm.org/

He really did win the hearts of Americans. It's interesting really to be that loved as an artist and to be so troubled like he was to become a Fine Artist vs. an Illustrator.

Labels are terrible aren't they?

Re: YEOW Come quick!

I hope folks have something to add to this. I know there is a lot of knowledge here through our contributors. It'd be amazing if the community could pull together and really help write a historical paper on contemporary art since the late 60's in Jax.

There were several ebb and flows here already it seems. If we could use the community to write this it would be a big help to us and to future generations to come.

Re: Call for Entries: Regional Juried Art Exhibition

I just wanted to make it clear to everyone that the juror's prize is a solo show.

So go on and enter this bad boy so we can see your work.

Also the juror is Jim Frazer from The Contemporary in Atlanta.

Check him out: http://jimfrazer.shawnrossiter.com/resume.html<... too shabby.

Re: Call for Entries: Regional Juried Art Exhibition

Hi anon,

Go check out www.freethebeaver.org. it has a whole explanation of the show.

Jim Frazer is one of the founding members of The Contemporary in Atlanta. The one hanging piece reminds me of a chandelier. And when the light was shining through the space yesterday and hit it, it reminded me of my dining room? The bowling ball pieces you installed reminded me of Jeff Koon's, aluminum bunny rabit pieces. I think it was the shinyness of the bowling balls. It's strange how you can take an object like a bowling ball and mix it with another element, the insulation foam you're using, and then it no longer looks like a bowling ball. In a way any object used in another context automatically becomes another object. at least visually. it's so great to be able to show work like this in Jax I think. can't wait to see it all come together. Never thought about Dick Cheney when making this work, but that's what is so great about contemporary work. It allows the viewer to explore inside their own perceptions. There's no wrong or right way to look at any of it.

thanks Mark. I really appreciate your feedback.

Re: another roadside bombing.

dang. thanks Sharla. very kind of you to say that. Where do artists fit in?

Why were they left out? makes me wonder? It's so appropriate that you left artists out even if it was just by mistake.

Re: I Hear Many Voices–Revised

now you're talking. much easier to read. the formatting that was on this post earlier made me think of computer programming more than the content.

Didn't mean to wine about artists being left off the structure. glad I wasn't tripping. I'll take a longer look at it and get back to you.

what is the reason you are putting this together? who are the consumers? that's a great question.

Re: NAVEL GAZERS

I don't understand why saying the show was the future of art in jax was a bad thing. I mean why can't that future include all contemporary work.

I believe all we were trying to say is that there are about to be and there are already some great shows happening. And that Pedestrian Projects and The Beaver are going to have some more. If you don't particularly like some of the work then that's fine.

I mean I'm at the point where if there is anything different being shown them I'm all for it. Morrison's slasher movie screening at the Hayden Burn's last night was great for Jax. Anything different and new. That's what we need.

I'm really excited and I do believe that Portent was a sign of things to come. This is exciting right here, just to have a frickin conversation about art. I've been dying to find an avenue to have discussions about contemporary art for years here in Jax. I'm just happy folks can talk freely here. Let's keep this line in the sand drawn. Show the work and then let's openly discuss it. Say it sucks, but then say why. We've got to include the why or we don't learn anything about each other. And isn't that what art is all about. Having that conversation? It is for me anyway.

Re: Art Group Calendar

Zac,

The google calendar is cool but that's sort of goes against the concept of trying to get it all in one place.

Please hold off Zac and I'm going to be releasing a very slick tool for everyone to use.

just need to know if everyone is okay with registering. it will be easy. a button that says register.

and the content will have to stay on blogger from what we have on this site. if that's okay then I have a tool that can do everything we want and then some.

cheers.

bk

Re: Art Group Calendar

I would prefer to use one tool though, that way folks have one login....

if we used the google calendar folks would have two?

Re: Art Group Calendar

cool man. thanks Zac. the google calendar tool rocks.
