in Starlight Analytics program tackles challenge of massive amounts of data on VentureBeat
Do you guys not believe in links? You forgot to provide any in the article. This is the web, you know.
And yeah, I guess the writer must have heard the word "Tablo" over the phone or something, it's Tableau, of course.
If this firm focuses on visualization, by the way, then Oracle and Autonomy are not competitors, either, as visualization per se is just a front end to a Business Intelligence or other analytic system.

in Smithsonian taps virtual world technology to take us to Blue Mars on VentureBeat
There is absolutely no chance of making an atmosphere on Mars using any known or predictable technology by 2150. Crashing ice asteroids into the planet is the only conceivable basic approach, as the water mass on the planet is too diffuse and thin to vaporize, and would just fall out and freeze again even if you could do it. The kinetic energy requirements for moving asteroids around are just too high unless someone comes up with energy and propulsion technologies that are vastly more effective than any plausible systems.
Earth, has 1,360,000,000 cubic kilometers of water, and you'd think at least 1% of that would be needed to give Mars something resembling a terrestrial atmosphere. But certainly some very large number of cubic kilometers of water would be required, whatever the precise requirement. A cubic kilometer of water weighs, um, one billion metric tons. Good luck coming up with that from space.

This just seems profoundly idiotic. I'd be inclined to reconsider further communication with anyone who subscribed to this service.

Actually that extremely useful technology for young women, especially of muslim descent. (And I have witnessed the hooplah first-hand so don't call me xenophobic or something)

in Franken picked up 37 votes from machine with uncounted ballots. This one is far from over. on AMERICAblog
Seems to me that anything this close should be considered a tie and a new election should be called. A difference of a few dozen votes just isn't meaningful.
But, right, I understand that new legislation would be required for that to become policy.

All your arguments sound like everyone else was wrong.
Your "mistakes" sound more like what people say during an interview when they get asked about their "faults".
From reading the series the only failure seems to be you.

in 4chan /b/ in the spotlight over Palin email hacking on The Inquisitr
The site itself will be perfectly fine. I highly doubt that there's any legal ground to shut it down, unless the administrators let them plan the hacking on the site itself or in their IRC chat. If McCain gets elected though, expect it to be under a pretty damn big microscope though.

Anonymous, absolutely right. 4chan has survived a lot of people after it before, and I believe it will survive this, but there's going to be a hell of a lot of attention this time.

Pure python code should *never* segfault! Every segfault should be considered a bug and get fixed.
