For the first 17 test chambers I didn't need speed, or reflexes - except for one jump.

I was able to observe, assess, think and stroll leisurely through each chamber, up until the last part of chamber 18 - at which point I needed reflexes that the game had not required of me up to that point.

If it *had* required them of me earlier, I'd have had to bail on it earlier - I'm simply not able to respond with speed and precision - which is why I liked HL2, CS, and Bioshock - I could always substitute my brains for my wayward muscles. No reflexes at all required to do well - if you're using the old noodle.

I suppose it's largely my own fault for perceiving the game as a 3D Puzzler. I'm just a bit disappointed at getting most of the way through before I realized my mistake, and that I won't be able to finish it.

And yes, I *like* hard games. The harder they make me observe, assess, think and plan the better I like it. What my body lacks is speed, and no amount of practice, unfortunately, is going to fix that.

Brains, not fingers. :)

I'm not saying that the number of games for the finger-jockeys should be reduced - everyone wants something different out of their gaming - but it's nice to know in advance if I need better than my granny fingers to finish it. :)

Re: ‘Virals’ And ‘Definitives’ In Second Life®: An Essay By Extropia DaSilva

It's the norm in many roleplaying virtual environments for 'feature characters' (well known, influential, historic figures) to be played by a succession of users.

Actually applying for such a role requires considerable research, interviews with users whose characters have had close, frequent or important interactions with them, and oftentimes auditions.

When all goes well - and frequently it does, there is little discernible difference between the personas, although there may be minor quirks in someone's wrist (the way they type, phraseological quirks, and so on).

Feature characters often outlive their original player by many years, as successions of players retire from the role and new players take up the role in their place.

Re: New Official Second Life Blog(s)!

The Lab already had an authentication module that plugged into Wordpress. Not quite the same thing.

Re: Second Life Resident Choice Awards Are Out!

Interesting. I know that one as the "MBA Mistake", going back to a seminar where the keynote speaker was addressing future graduates and telling them "Other qualifications make you fit for a single industry. An MBA makes you a master of *every* industry, able to fill any management position competently and well."

I, and some others, at the time felt that was something of an error in observation. In the decades that followed, I certainly encountered enough people who believed it, though.

Links for notecards, huh? That would definitely have changed the complexion of it, IMO.

[WORDPRESS HASHCASH] The poster sent us '0 which is not a hashcash value.

Re: Khannea Suntzu’s Preview of Second Life in 2009

Whew.
