Kyle, your ipod is in service mode, and you can fix the iphone very easily. Open Itunes, and choose restore while holding shift key. Select the OS (3.0...etc) and let the iphone restore itself.

You wear the same kind of watch I do! When I was a kid I used the calculator the most but now I use the stopwatch to remind me it's been 5 minutes since I turned on the coffeemaker or whatever (I work in a factory so I have a lot of "do this, then wait 2 minutes", "do that 15 minutes from now" projects.) If you really wanted to fix your SAD though you should have gotten the watch where the face comes off the strap and transforms into a little robot. It's so cute.

in New Pennsylvania Study Shows Fatality Increase After Helmet Law Repeal on Northwest Cycle Report
Well, if you "choose" to put a million or 2 $ in costs on us,
in hospital / nursing-home costs,
and you "choose" to not pay taxes for the rest of your life,
then I think we should have the right to "choose" to simply not bother offering first-aid,
let alone ambulance or hospital services,
to anyone who isn't helmetted:
The *increase* in costs per non-helmetted rider is significant,
and if you pay that increase in advance ( and show that you have, perhaps a special license-plate ),
then fine,
but if you don't,
the What Give You The Right To Put Those Costs On Us?
Choose, but pay for your choice,
or get off the planet.
Same as other kinds of "choice"s.
Drive drunk?
get locked away. Period.
( should be put to work, to pay for the prison, too. )
No seat belt?
If you get thrown through the windshield ( a friend of mine did it ),
why should we pay for you to have 24h care for the next decades?
( including a breathing-machine, due to the broken neck )
No sympathy for Deliberate Ignorance, aka Won't Know, is "deserved"...
( equally, if someone pretends they "didn't see" the motorcycle they hit,
remove their license for life -- no driving with your brain shut off.
You drive, you're responsible. Across the board. )
Cheers.

in 10 Ways To Be A Gentleman At The Gym on Art of Manliness
What an utterly chauvanist cowardly opinion
~inside/outside thigh machines are girly~
TRY FREESTYLING A MOTOCROSS BIKE WITHOUT THOSE MUSCLES, m*r*n.
How utterly offensive:
since the mere *suggestion* that you might be feminine is so profoundly *demeaning* to you,
you can't value woman as person,
can you?
Your balls disappear when someone holds
slightly-pink/magenta cloth near you?
Many women have commented on this, and finally I "get" it,
and see it, when "my kind" are doing it:
Grow Up.
If *I* can, *anyone* can.
Try reading "Counting for nothing"
a book about just what men really value woman as...
Try reading "Women's Ways of Knowing"
by 4 psychologist women with both brains & guts.
And TRY freestyling a 250lb-400lb bike with weak thigh muscles,
and see if having it land on your head more frequently
makes *you* feel more manly, or more idiotic.
( & if you are offended by "practice" and "training" and "study" as too girly, then maybe get a Darwin Award doing a loop wrong?
.. at least it'd be *earned* )

in Are European carriers playing hardball with Apple? on last100
"Dan Langendorf wrote that where the iPhone had already succeeded was in “wresting an unprecedented amount of control from a carrier — in this case AT&T — in designing the device, determining its applications and mindset of use, and how to price the phone and service.” Having witnessed this from across the pond, it seems that the European mobile industry is determined not to let the same happen to them."
Yes, and of course the European market is much more mature and saturated compared to the US one. Handset-vendor lock-in is something I think most of us would like to avoid, and for the most part in Europe have avoided.

in Making a happy developer house (Scripting News) on Scripting News
That's very true. I started a company with a friend a couple of years ago to make games, and we chose the PC as a platform almost by default. The devkits are cheap and readily available, the platform has a huge installed base and it's easy to distribute for over the internet.
Unfortunately, there are big drawbacks too. Everyone's PC is different, which makes testing difficult and tedious (I remember getting bug reports from several people who were having trouble running the game in XP on a macbook pro, a testing scenario I never would have thought of. On the other hand, another user wrote to report that the game runs fine on his Linux box under wine).
Also, because it's so open, it's much easier to hack the games and software available for it. Games companies have moved to more closed systems to protect their games from piracy primarily, but also their customers' experiences. Modifications allowing players to cheat, easily performed on an open platform, are a big annoyance, and systems that only run signed code provide a welcome relief.

in Please backup your hard drive now… twice! on goodCRIMETHINK
Raid 5 is the best way to go for protecting your data in a single computer. One of the hard drives in a RAID 5 array is responsible for backing up the data via a parity bit. When a drive in the array fails, you can just buy a new one and the array will rebuild itself with no data loss. It takes several hours but its well worth the wait.
You can build a RAID5 setup from newegg.com for cheap check out this controller N82E16816115029 and this hard drive N82E16822145137. If you get 4 hard drives you'll have 1.5TB of space with one drive being the parity drive.
The only way this drive setup can fail is if multiple drive failures occur at the same time. As long as you keep them cooled the likelihood of this happening is extremely small.
