in Safari 3 Windows Review, Benchmark — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
All anyone can say for Safari is that it looks pretty. The private browsing feature is nice for those who are worried about security and use it for inputting credit cards etc. The only reason Apple has for releasing Safari for Windows is that they may require it for some of the iPhone features. Some Windows users that have iPhones are going to want to create apps for the iPhone and those apps are Web2.0/Ajax as announced by Apple at the WWDC2007 Keynote; so, as the iPhone runs Safari, this will make it easier for developers to make those apps Safari specific.

in Sudo Make Me A Sandwich — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
I started using sudo after I got tired of typing in a huge command hitting enter and it saying you must be root to do this then su ing into root and then you can't hit the uparrow for the command again so you have to retype it all... now its just up arrow, home, sudo :D

These things I really don't think matter, your becoming a very popular blogger and people tend to slam those who are competition. Personally I would like to see you get back to the posts you used to do and stop worrying about what other people write ;).

Not your fault if they don't see what is on the page... they can take you to court and everything but they would more then likely loose... I recommend going to google cache and printing out that cache page ;).

ALSO the response from the author and boing boing sound very childish and the error from hashcash from the author sounds like he was trying to post stuff that looked like spam ex. him putting a link to his page within the post.

in Macs Don’t Have Viruses? — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
Everyone knows that there are vulnerabilities in every OS... and most of the time it is teens that make them and what OS do most teens use? Windows... people make viruses for what they work on and if you just happen to get a hacker who uses Macs when he will make a virus for that. The only thing is that there are far less viruses in Mac then in Windows and when was the last time Microsoft released a patch as soon as they found a problem? It usually takes them about 6 months aswell.

And I'm not sure it is a good thing to advertise the expliots before they are actually fixed... it is good and bad to hide flaws, good so it doesn't get out to people with malicious intents and bad because people may want to fix it quicker themselves.

But I do agree that apple really should fix these faster then pretending they don't exist atleast Microsoft looks at them and puts one guy on the project for an hour a week.

in Top 10 Reasons Not To Buy A Macbook Pro — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
I just recently got a MacBook Pro and it’s the best laptop I have ever had. No problems what so ever and all the programs I do use such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop CS2 work flawlessly on it and better then my PCs (which are high-end as well).

This list really only effects a very small percent of people and really shouldn't be counted for someone truly interested getting a new MBP + with it you get a far better operating system then Windows with a much nicer interface and built on top of BSD none the less (for linux/bsd lovers).

Last but not least I love the design... no laptop looks better then the MBP and I appreciate all those Chinese workers that stayed up 80 hours a week to make my MBP ;).

in Wordpress 2.0 Upgrade Problems: Character Encoding + Transformation on Elliott Back's Blog
I have upgraded 3 blogs now to WP2 and had none of these problems... maybe they did something to the code since I last downloaded it but from what I have seen the upgrade works just fine from the last 1.whatever release to 2. Check out the blog I did at blog.overshard.com.... no problems at all... or none I have noticed.

in Songbird? No bloatware, thanks. on Elliott Back's Blog
Call me what you want but I like songbird. I don't mind having up multiple versions of firefox and would not like songbird built into firefox.

It reminds me a lot of iTunes which i currently use because 1 I have an iPod and 2 I really don't like windows media player do to it crashing on me all the time because I tend to try and do about 50 things at once on it.

From my first uses with it I got all 4,000 and something tracks in about 1 min scanned and on there. It only takes up about about 35 of mem and about 1% of my processor while playing music.

Overall for a alpha I think it has a lot of potential and cool logo.

in This is why … — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
I must admit that I do put my games in alphabetical order and I keep them that way but sometimes, those who shall not be named, get them out of order and I have to redo the whole thing.
