in Colorado Leeds School of Business Application on Andrew Hyde
Andrew is a super bright guy. I've known him for a couple years now. He started Startup Weekend, which I just found fascinating -- and joined his outings of it in Toronto and NYC. He's smart and has great feedback on anything; he's passionate about startups. Very down to earth, easy going, and I know he's got big plans for his life -- and making an impact on society (helping others and our environment). If Andrew were to choose you for graduate school, you'd be making out on the deal. Andrew is a connector -- he knows pretty much everyone in tech and he's going to do big things (and I know he'd love to help out future students in years to come post-grad school).

I had a similar idea. I think it's brilliant. The only thing missing is the ability for users to input >140char responses as answers.

The design of this site is very slick. I'd like to know who did it -- please contact me if you did it.
Thanks,
Steve

in Twitter Username Conflict and Password Function Creep on Blog comments
I think the consensus from the comments on my blog post was that I'm a scumbag username squatter ;) haha. But I'm not -- I swear! :) I'm just trying to create a business on-top of Twitter, which is what they have been encouraging since day 1. And they're ripping my business away without any notification or recourse. I wish they'd create premium accounts where I could pay $X/year to have a secure hold on my usernames. I still have yet to get any official response from Twitter.

in Top Records of 2008 (so far) on A VC
Santogold -- this album is great upbeat stuff. Also Lykke Li.
Ratatat - LP3.
She and Him -- this is M. Ward with Zooey Danshel [actress]. It's like classic country music -- really well done.
Yeasayer -- i know, this is from 2007 -- but it's a frickin trip. They are from NYC I believe.
Wolf Parade -- OMFG.
Islands - Arm's Way -- great sophomore album.
Girl Talk - Feed the Animals -- get ready to party, dance, or work-out. Mashup of everything you love and love to hate. [if you like Girl Talk, check out 'Car Stereo Wars - The Bandit' as well.]
Death Cab for Cutie -- the album is incredible -- they just keep getting better and better.
Flobots -- listen to the song 'handle bars' and then get the whole album.
Sigur Ros -- the new album is awesome; they get better and better.
The Raconteurs -- this is the supergroup of all supergroups. They just know how to make amazing (classic) rock music. Instant hits.
rap fans -- sidenote, and this is old, but I can't stop listening to T.I. vs T.I.P.
LOOK OUT for new albums soon by: Margot & The Nuclear So and So's [their first album is in my top 10 of all-time; indie rock 8-person band from Indy and lead singer is a genius], The Silent Years [great indie rock], Conor Oberst [self-titled; lead singer of Bright Eyes], and Beck [produced by Danger Mouse - new single 'chemtrails' is a drum anthem]. "30 Seconds to Mars" must be coming out with one very soon -- lead singer is actor Jared Leto, and honest to god, it is some of the most original "rock" music I've heard -- their first album still blows my mind to this day. I would think Sufjan Stevens has one coming soon too.
If you like Springsteen, grab albums by Moneybrother and/or Will Hoge.

Mark -- you should edit this post. You don't even tell what happens... did Facebook pay them off? Or did the Judge throw it out? I had to click on the NY Times link, which I'm going to read now.

in Don’t Bet Your Fortune on Facebook Apps on AllFacebook
Nick -- I agree with you in regards to Facebook. But there's still a playing field that's about to emerge on MySpace, bebo, Friendster, etc ... and despite apps being easily transported to those platforms, I think single person app developers could emerge to do well on those platforms.

The shocker is that Google entered this space; if I'm Universal or whomever, I'd be suing Google for all their worth!

Somewhat similar:
www.aboutcodes.com
www.qtags.com
This Smartpox idea -- how many phones have this reader built-in? Does it work with every camera phone on the market? If so, I think the better way is just to use a code [like the qtags and aboutcodes systems above], which you can then publish in all print materials, or speak over radio/tv, etc.

in 2006/08/21/thisnext-launches-shopping-social-network/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
This article sparked an idea for an etailer to further engage their customers by getting them to photo/video themselves with products they own/use -- then randomly display their photo on the product page; if their photo (along with professional product photos) sells the product, they get like 2% of the sale. The user would have a flash embed widget as well to post on MySpace/blog/etc that would show them with all the products they have photo/video'd themselves with, and if one of those links sells a product, they get 2%. Here's my full write-up: http://www.vestedventures.com/blog/2006/08/etai...

I agree that YouTube is showing people like to consume by the thousands, but kiddies still want to be featured on a national TV station... in particular, MTV.
MTV/Viacom should be buying out one of these start-up social networks that have done a great software build, but don't stand a chance at anything.

in Facebook Developers API: Facebook Opening Up? on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
This is a brilliant move by Facebook. In June I suggested Friendster should be doing the same thing if they want to be a contender -- http://www.vestedventures.com/blog/2006/06/dist...
raconteurs is good too.
i'll check out some of these other suggestions
thanks
