To answer some of your questions/comments (TubeMogul here):
- Bill: thanks for the stimulating comment. A few clarifications: much of this content IS professionally produced (i.e. NextNewNetworks, PBS, others). Also, in order to avoid family videos and uninteresting UGC (i.e. "Mikey's Birthday"), we only included videos that at least got 1,000 views in the first 90 days.
- FaceySpacey: that's a great idea--thanks. You may see us publish that in the coming months.
- Morten: Chris Anderson contacted us with similar comments.

We needed the statistician to fit a curve to the data and project out views over a longer time period (there are other graphs, namely the approximated curve, that we couldn't have done without firm knowledge of a stats package--and it's been quite a while since I took stats and calculus at Berkeley).

Mainly the stats guy's work ended up helping us build this awesome tool to predict future views:

I could see us forwarding this as advice to our users, and not just because it mentions TubeMogul.

Stimulating reading. I thought from my vantage point here at TubeMogul I could add a few humble insights. Many of our users utilize our tools as a means of research in finding an often elusive audience. Each video sharing site draws different (and often indeterminate) people, and we offer the perfect playground to test where your audience may be (which I hope might be on Viddler). Another point worth keeping in mind is that being ubiquitous can help in organic search rankings, hence the many agencies and seo experts that love TubeMogul. Incidentally, I embed Viddler's player on our blog and love it!
