in Why Mommy Blogging is No Longer a Radical Act on Suburban Turmoil
I sure hope you're wrong at least to some extent. "Mommyblogging" can still be a radical act, depending on what we write about! Since we are more than the sum of our motherhood in our "real lives," our blogs should be, too! I hope I achieve some of that as a "pundit." I think more of us can, too, if we focus on what drew us to this medium in the first place -- a space for our real voices.

St I agree. I'm a reader, not a blogger (well, not really) and I'm still reading the same blogs I found when I started reading as well as a few I've added here and there along the way. I still find them refreshing, smart and well-written. Certainly there are those who have gone into it it looking for the money but they are easy to spot...and avoid. The good, authentic bloggers are growing in numbers as well.

suburbanturmoil Oh I think we can write about what we want. The problem is that we now run the risk of losing "influence" if what we write about doesn't fit the mainstream image of motherhood.

Before all this outside attention, I would argue that voices of dissension were held in higher regard.

in Blogging IS Activism on Menstrual Poetry
Blogging absolutely can be activism and as I've said before, I think it is the new feminist act -- we're taking our thoughts and voices to this medium where there is no barrier to entry, as with op-ed pages and talking head shows. And, BTW, not all of us are "young chicks" though it's OK if someone wants to call me young! ;)

in Should the “Purpose Driven Preacher” Pray over the POTUS? on Jack and Jill Politics
Why do we need anyone to pray over Obama at the inauguration?? I say skip it and we don't have to worry about these issues. Anyway, given the fact that Warren also thinks wives should be subservient to their husbands, it might be dangerous for him to get too close to Michelle.

CPL LOL, Pundit Mom - I could see Warren praying that Michelle become subservient to Obama, and she gets ready to put her Jimmy Choos up his ass for saying it.

heartsandflowers Well people misconstrue that bit of Biblical verse all the time. The husband is supposed to love the wife the way God loves the church (people). People have no concept of what that is. Also I don't equate submitting (not working against) as subservience (being a doormat).

in “The Malia and Sasha Effect” on Jack and Jill Politics
This is also great for my daughter, who is Asian-American. At the age of eight, she notices that so many of the people she sees on TV as representatives of our country are Caucasian (like her parents), so I am hoping the presence of Malia and Sasha on the national stage will help give her a new perspective.

Town You rarely see Asian children on TV, except for "London Tipton" on the Suite Life of Zack & Cody and "Manny" on Degrassi.

in "This is about telling you that you mean nothing" on AMERICAblog
We're not even acknowledged by the Dems. For example, several RNC operatives agreed to write political guest posts at BlogHer during the campaign, but the only ones from the Dems were from Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. Those are good, but where were the official spokespeople? Free publicity to millions of women voters seems like it would have been a good thing.

in What School for the WeeMichelles? on Jack and Jill Politics
There aren't many single sex shools in the DC area. Holton Arms is a great all-girls school, but it doesn't start until third grade. I'd love to see them think about some of the smaller, independent schools vs. the big name power players.

in What Moms Need to Know About Sarah Palin on Radical Parenting
You raise so many good questions that I know we are all wrestling with. But, in the end, I am not worried about whether she's a good mom. I want to know if she'd be a good VP. And for me, on the issues, the answer is, "no."

Karoli I'm totally good with that. As soon as I stop hearing the same "I'm winning the popular vote" and "I'm fighting to count all the votes" from her.

I would absolutely LOVE to have this thing resolved and move on from it to the next challenge. Believe it or not, I am not a person who enjoys grudges. One of the benefits of ADHD is the inability to remember what it was that made me mad, unless I'm reminded of it over and over again.

Don't know where to go with this one. It might not feel right, but if it's legal, it's legal. Obama doesn't have to be all holier-than-thou about it.
