I thought the whole piece was rather laughably weak - certainly not the type of story I'd expect from the NYT. Everything was made to sound foolishly ominous... *Killer* hotdogs... Planet *destroying* A/C... etc. And I totally agree with your point - it isn't that we SHOULDN'T worry about these things, it's that perhaps we worry too much about them.

These are really good tips - the more you can do via a browser, the better. With really important documents, I usually email them to myself via gmail just in case something happens.

I like thinking of high gas prices as a catalyst for change. It's a forcing mechanism, really. Sad as it is, we probably wouldn't have changed our lifestyle if it didn't come down to pure economics.
