in I Am B-Serious . . . on Jack and Jill Politics
b-serious, oh I've enjoyed your comments so much. I really look forward to your blog posts.

d, I agree with you on getting a conservative blogger. Not a conservative, but I think the site could use a broader perspective outside of the comment board.

in Michelle Obama to Co-Host ‘The View’ on Jack and Jill Politics
It's sad that Michelle has to have a fullblown staff for her "image". But I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. The GOP is so desperate. They can't seem to find anything to attack Obama on, so they attack the people next to him. I wonder if they'll do the kids next.

They used the same pictures from that Ebony shoot. Should've used a better picture. Like that one where Barack is whispering in her ear. IMO that would probably solve the problems right there. Although maybe it's too much for the cover.

Karmi- what are you talking about? She grew up with different circumstances and so she expresses her views in a different way. I don't think there's a problem and since she's not running for a policy position who cares?

in Obama Campaign Will Launch ‘Joshua Generation Project’ on Jack and Jill Politics
Can they really sue over a phrase from the bible? Jeez.

Anon, here's a good article about Obama, faith and politics.

It's very good.

What our deliberative, pluralistic democracy demands is that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values. It requires that their proposals must be subject to argument and amenable to reason. If I am opposed to abortion for religious reasons and seek to pass a law banning the practice, I cannot simply point to the teachings of my church or invoke God's will and expect that argument to carry the day. If I want others to listen to me, then I have to explain why abortion violates some principle that is accessible to people of all faiths, including those with no faith at all.

in The Whole Family is Corrupt on Jack and Jill Politics
Yep, and it's proving to be their undoing. Bill REFUSED to be vetted and therefore the Obama campaign is saying HELL NO to the dream ticket.

Damn straight. That's was one of my biggest misgivings towards the whole thing. You know the GOP has been collecting oppo ever since Sen. Clinton entered the senate. It'd be fine if they couldn't find any, but this is the Clintons we're talking about.

in Denver- From the Imagination of a West Wing Writer on Jack and Jill Politics
Okay someone tell me if this is true. I read from a blog somewhere that aparently Matt Santos was modeled after Obama.

One of the writers watched Obama's 2004 speech and immediately called Axelrod wanting to know more about him.

Would be interesting if true.

in The Obamas Leave Trinity on Jack and Jill Politics
First off, to the people who think he's just going to sign up to the nearest Catholic Church because he needs the demo: I really hope not.

The UCC is a mainstream, national denomination. I doubt it'll be hard to find another church within the UCC family. AFAIK, not all UCC churches look like Trinity.

Secondly, I do believe the split w/ TUCC didn't come easy. I mean for goodness sake, he named his book after one of the sermons he heard from Rev. Wright himself. It's extremely inconvienient politically yet he still did it. I think that says something.

in Sunday Open Thread on Jack and Jill Politics
Here's my long ass comment on Obama and the Dem. Primary/Gen. Election:

I really am not going to worry about this. They can have the appeal but by then Obama will have hit the new magic number and the two to four delegates in the balance won't really change the outcome.

Hillary and Bill really need to come out for the Democratic party. Some of her supporters were utterly classless. They made her look bad (although sometimes I think they are a reflection of their candidate who has at times acted as 'klassy').

Yesterday was a frustrating day. As a Floridian, I'm glad this dumb issue has been settled. I'm tired of people treating us as a political football while trying to make it into some sort of noble crusade for the Constitution.

I'm peeved off at Obama over the TUCC resignation. I think it was a dumb move because the GOP attacks over this will not stop (it's one of the only things they've got). It makes no sense to cave in under the pressure. I bet JFK was under intense scrutiny as the first Catholic. You didn't see him resigning from his parish or bullshit like that.

Obama should have stuck to the issues. I am really loving how he isn't afraid to challenge McCain on the only issue that is supposedly his strength. Obama is showing that McCain has no strength on the issues, and when the economy becomes the #1 issue McCain will be totally destroyed.

I also think his campaign is brilliant. They've been linking McCain with Bush for a while and I think it's finally catching on. I was listening to the pundits and I've heard the phrase "Bush-McCain" more than a few times.

McCain is already on the defensive--they're trying their hardest to hide Bush away in the shadows but it's really not working.

I have to say though, I forgot who it was but I thought their comment was very insightful.

If race had a lot to do with why you were voting for Obama, then I understand why the TUCC resignation would have disappointed or angered.

I'm not going to lie, I am slightly disappointed here. But I still remain convinced that Obama is the best candidate. For me, he isn't the lesser evil, I will happily vote FOR him.

Why?

Because people like Lou Dobbs hate his guts. Sounds weird but hear me out.

I became a strong supporter of Obama when he called out the nasty rhetoric surrounding the issue of immigration at a debate. I truly believe him when he says he wants to get America out of the mindset that got us into the war in the first place because he has shown by his actions and his words that soundly rejects this mindset.

It's letting people like Lou Dobbs going unchecked, letting him spew his xenophobic nonsense to an audience who expects the news to be "fair and balanced", letting people point at scapegoats instead of focusing on the actual problem, that is slowly destroying our country.

Obama and America can't let the GOP focus and win on distractions this election season.

BTW what's the definition of success in Iraq right now? It keeps changing. If they don't want to leave as "losers" (too late imo) then they need to come up with that definition and leave.

It's not caving in at alll.

Obama has planning a world tour for a couple of months now. IIRC, they were planning to do it right after the Texas/Ohio primaries...expecting a win in Texas (and sen. Clinton dropping out).

I guess now that they expect Hillary to get out soon, the plans are back again.

in Clinton Staying in Race In Case Obama is Assassinated on Jack and Jill Politics
I hate the "I'm sorry that you were offended" non-apology. Basically it's the inability to recognize how out of line her words were.

*sigh*

I just got back from the Obama rally in S.Florida feeling great and I had to come home to this stupidity.

in Obama Returns To Iowa on Jack and Jill Politics
I don't think Obama has been coasting. Especially with President Bush and McCain and the GOP attacking him in earnest.

He's been busy fighting a general election and not worrying about Hillary. It was such a relief to not have to hear about Hillary or hear from any of her surrogates on the TV.

~leney who is ready for Obama to come to South Florida already.

in Obama Launches Vote For Change, A Massive 50-State Registration Drive on Jack and Jill Politics
Anon. that's why this primary needs to end June 3rd, or whenever the last primary is supposed to happen. We can't have Senator Clinton fighting this out in August.

The best way to bring everyone together is to give people time. Right now everyone is extremely invested and tensions are at their highest. The more time people get used to Obama and the more time people realize that McCain is not a viable alternative, the better.

in Obama Launches Vote For Change, A Massive 50-State Registration Drive on Jack and Jill Politics
I think it's illegal for Obama to use donations to him to pay off Hillary's debt. But he's open to help her fundraise, or send out an e-mail asking donors to give to her.

Which I guess would be okay because I have the choice to not give Senator Clinton one cent.
