Oil was one of the first to break out as well.
It started over two weeks before the financials and S&P.

I hear FOP is the next to go. I hope so. That should save them a fortune. He supposedly gets an ungodly salary.

Editor He's right Terry.

Frank, like Kevin Slaten at 1380, basically rents his time on the air and then sells his own ads.

I don't think your a moron though just because you don't know the structure of Frank O Pinion's contract. I mean I don't know you, so you could be a moron for something else...you seem nice though...I don't know.
anonymous You sir are a moron.....try to do some research when you say something that you makes you sound like an idiot. Frank has never received a salary.

Great methodological approach! It certainly does eliminate the garbage that goes with seasonality.

Also, I appreciate your analysis of where unemployment is headed by comparing with earlier recessions. It's a good way to forecast for the near- to mid-term, if structural aspects of the economy (eg--huge decline in manufacturing) don't alter the basis for such a comparison.

Now for the hard part: Employment/unemployment is generally considered a lagging or (at best) a coincident indicator of the economy. Have you tried any successful methods to extrapolate your outlook for employment for the future health of the economy, especially a turnaround?

OK, it's Sunday, you don't need to answer that, but I'd be interested in yours or others attempts to use real labor data to look at the broader economy.

Actually the "no change" in seasonally adjusted new unemployment does tell us something: Retailers are not hiring for the holiday season.

In fact, the NSA number showed a 27,617 newly unemployed INCREASE over the preceding week. So not only are retailers not hiring, others are laying off.

The continuing unemployment number reinforces this. While the SA number showed a drop of 12,000, the "real" NSA number increased by 94,217 week-to-week and 28,000 for the four-week SA moving average.

Ugly, very ugly, as we approach what is supposed to be the peak sales season.

I was there last night as well... if only for the first 7 songs. Dropped a bottle from the balcony into a trashcan sitting at the empty bar below and found out that the 9:30 spotters aren't as lenient as they once were. SO pissed that I wasn't there for "Resurrection" - fave HS tune.

Yea, geez, here's a mini review on Sunday of the dance tent...

Chromeo was a major crowd favorite to start the day off playing their obvious 80's influenced music. Set included a Journey cover of Don't Stop Believin'. Best line though "We pulled into the neighborhood outside of Pimlico, and I thought 'This place is Gangsta'"...

Rabbit in the Moon was a ridiculously good show full of costumes, sparks, 3D glasses, belly dancing, and a "flaming lips" ball...That's just the tip of the iceberg to their show...There's just so much you had to see to believe.

Moby has to be the big surprise of the dance tent all weekend...His DJ set despite the lack of his hits, except for small snippets, hit extremely hard and he was getting a ton of praise. Moby is a definite crowd pleaser.

Deadmau5 and Armin Van Buuren had excellent sets as well. Deadmau5 showed why he is gaining a lot of popularity with his break beat style, and Armin definitely proved why he is rated The World's Top DJ by DJ Mag in their most recent poll with his mind-blowing trance.

Richie Hawtin was good, however I'm not a huge fan of the minimalist style of techno. At points, I was thinking I heard the same sound for an hour straight.

I do have pictures of all artists in the dance tent all weekend if anyone is really interested in seeing them.

Though I completely agree with the Underworld statement above, Soulwax and Ferry Corsten were also very very good in the dance tent on day 1...I shamelessly admit that I never left the dance tent all weekend...

Great time except when the frat boys in matching outfits would randomly come in to check the dance tent out and act like their stereotypical idiot and drunk selfs...no offense to cool fraternity brothers or chill drunks...

or worse, redneck couples who used the dance tent as a place to dry hump one another while constantly bumping into me. Seriously, I'd rather not be the love triangle in your brother-sister relationship...definite offense to all rednecks...

not to be a dick...but while I would like for my city to take credit, Girl Talk is out of Pittsburgh, not Baltimore...that show was absolutely crazy, though it was pissing me off they wouldn't let more people on stage and from the left side of the stage where i was in optimal position to get up...and did anyone see the douchebag in the black tanktop on stage during his set? had I gotten on stage, i would have done all a favor and punch him the face...

i don't think it's mentioned anywhere, but the fireworks were not at all for the Radiohead performance or for Lollapalooza...though I enjoyed them along with Radiohead's music...apparently, there was a family night practice at Soldier Field for da bears with fireworks afterwards

Hi Corey, thank you for an excellent blog to help other people. For cases like BAC during these times, are RENKO charts reliable to tell us trends or directions? Or do we rely on overbought/oversold ? or fundamentals and stay away from banks?

I agree... Social networking and other web 2.0 intranet applications will be interesting. I am aware of a firm in Michigan developing these internal social networks for large employers. I love how Corporate America is embracing 2.0!

Captain,

Ohh believe me, I've been having a blast today and I appreciate you making my friday fly by. I have no true hard feelings towards you besides my already substantial hatred for you.

I agree with you that your formula would be a pretty optimal experience regardless of the line-up or occasion, so there's certainly one thing you'll likely have on me. I'm sure we'll have nearly equal experiences at our respective festivals and afterwards we'll have to have a verbal duking it out about who's was best.

If you wish to use my name, I'm sure there's little you can say that I've not heard and I can't imagine it'd bother me much anyways. I pretty much hate my name. But if you think you can surprise me with something, it'll give you something to work on over the weekend/Monday. Though I pity any child who's parents named them Captain Asshole.

You have a good weekend, Cap'n

Ohh, I just can't help not responding...

Captain Gayhole....I seem to remember you cumming over Lollapalooza's lineup...

"Pretty fucking lame that Lollapalooza drops literally the greatest concert ever after I bought a ticket to APW" I believe was your statement and I remember feeling the slightest bit of pity for you.

But, anyways, have fun on your bad trip recalling how jealous you are that you're not me. Truthfully, I'm pretty disappointed that the worst you can come up with is to wish for rain while I'm at Lolla. I expected something much more vile and biting from you.

And while yes, we can agree those few bands you will see are pretty damn good, they are also practically the only four bands worth seeing...Two of which will be at Lolla. $65 per good band just doesn't add up when you can pay less than $10 per good band at Lolla. Suck on them apples. Though if you want to make APW more worth it, don't miss Girl Talk, whom, guess what, is also at Lolla. Man, I'm telling you, the Lolla line-up is pretty sweet.

As for Radiohead, with Lolla, I'll have seen them three times this summer, since you seem to want to make this about who is more hip or musically cultured. So I couldn't care less that you get to see them two nights in a row.

And ohh yes...all of your loyal fans commend you on making the internet a better place one flaming post at a time.

Ohh yes...finally, I get the privilege of feeling the wrath of the apparently legendary Captain Asshole...I knew it would only be a matter of time...

Truthfully, I'm not trying promote any festivals...shitty or not...I figured if this site was to be collection of summer festivals, I would provide any that were missing. Though I'm not personally a fan of the bands at Purple Door, never been to the festival, nor relate to the christian scene whatsoever, perhaps there are readers of this site that are...

...and last time I checked, this site wasn't called Captain Asshole's Festival Outlook, so chill out on your idiotic comments about every festival you don't have the privilege of attending...you clearly are just looking for attention, and this will be the only time i entertain your desperate need...by the way, have fun at your lame APW...I won't be seeing you at Lolla thankfully
