I just received the sofa that I ordered for my daughter's apartment last week. It took a few hours to put together but the directions were excellent and the manufacture is extremely clever. My only suggestion is that the fabric was difficult to slide over the wood and the foam- perhaps a slicker inside surface would help. We have already given the web-site to a friend. My daughter's apartment door precluded any assembled sofa so this was just what we needed.

I let the boxes sit for several days and waited for the weekend, I was nervous about my ability to put a loveseat together on my own. IT WAS FUN! It took the full 2 hours because I get things backwards now and then, but everything was easily put together. I'm pleased that the numbers were cut into the pieces instead of being stenciled on.
Love the pet care fabric and I'm very interested to see how it stands up to the cats. I've already discovered how easy cat hair is removed. I only wish the seat was a little deeper.
At these prices I may be able to purchase summer fabric. Thanks so much.

I wouldn't answer such a poll myself because I would never want to be making a judgment on another person like that. I do look at the "fruit" of a person but I sincerely try not to judge. God will judge us all!!!!

Terrific post! I love your comparison and to be honest, I hadn't thought about Oz in the terms you brought up. I had also forgotten the story about the god that eats until your post. It is a very telling story but I think I actually learned about it in the Catholic Bible classes I went to as a kid!

I saw the Portsmouth game at the Emirates in mid-December and was surprised at how well I could see the pitch from a seat in the upper corner. Loved the intensity of the supporters. The atmosphere was electric but probably less so than the CL match you were lucky enough to attend. Yes, it's a gorgeous new stadium, but I don't have much to compare it with in England--just Stamford Bridge. I'd love to visit an older, smaller, super-traditional place--the Wrigley Field/Fenway Park of English football. Maybe next time.

I've mostly heard really good things about that book, but reading that passage, I felt really exasperated with that guy. I think an entire book of that sort of whining, particularly if it was punctuated with stupid decisions like cheating on a woman who was nice to him with someone annoying...well, it just doesn't sound appealling.

Maybe there are other points where it seems more like he is learning from his mistakes...but in this passage he just seems to be congratulating himself for being so neurotic. Bleah.

Hmm...the comments posted to Margaret may have not been rude and selfish but they were condescending and insensitive. The subsequent response was sanctimoneous.

Fact is, if you posted the core foods list you'd have legal issues with Weight Watcher's and they'd request that you remove the list from your site as it is copywrited information. Most people understand this concept and wouldn't be offended if you stated as much.

I'm not state that you ought to do anything illegal, but Weight Watcher's is a significant investment of money and not everyone can afford to attend meetings or join online--sometimes, the best option is just to do it on your own--which is what many people do. I agree for the best results and greater chances of success would be to go to meetings or to join online--sometimes this just isn't possible. Some folks just aren't as blessed as others. There is no need to reflect a negative attitude towards those who may be facing this type of situation.

Middle school is the hardest so my teacher friends have told me. I couldn't imagine ms, high school, yeah. Challenges, yes, but I relate to them better even though they have a way of wearin' your last nerve.

I should mention I run a community library at a local non-profit for at risk girls. I work with all girls.

You know, I had forgotten how scary it was until I read your post. I remember wondering if I was doing the right thing, too.

The fear goes away the more you face it. As you can see, I hardly remember that I had been afraid. Now I can think clearly, logically and it's made my life better.

Keep seeking and remember, everyone sees the world differently. I don't believe in anything supernatural, but my husband, who is basically an atheist still believes in a sort of afterlife. I have a friend who talks to a "spirtual" thing that she doesn't call God, but at the same time helps her get through tough times.

I know what you say is true. My daughter and I became the victim's of a crime and I went to God in prayer for help to remove ourselves from an unsafe area. (Still trying) Well in prayer God urged me to ask, so I kept asking, until I realized He was guiding me to ask of His people. Well I went to every denomination and over 1000 churches nationwide for help. They all said the same thing, "We do not give to individuals." Non profits said no, we can only give to other non profits. So these churches and non profits steal money from the people but will give nothing back.
Why? fear. They do not have Faith that God is the source of their supply, but man is. Jesus was telling us over and over again about not being attached to our money. Money is a tool used to aquire a physical need. In fact on my asking journey I find that the Religous are the most fearful of all.
The Constitution does not say a church can only operate if it is incorporated, in fact to incorporate means to sign a contract with the Government and give up certain rights for the privelege of operating as a church and recieving money.
I am a Minister and have a Constitutional Church online that is dedicated to Real Truth, and I care not if I pay a tax or recieve no funds, that is not our reason for being.

But I do agree with you, there are few if any true Christic followers on Earth today. As to the person who gave to you if it went to a charity, that just shows that they feel you personally are unworthy of touching the money as if the money is sacred. They are showing they are still attached to the physical money and not in their faith to God. What does it matter if you recieve it, I thought only God did the Judging? I I would gladly send you ten dollars, and when I have some I shall. For it is only money and God is our supply and you can never out give God. I for one have seen first hand that my faith is in God and not in humans, and I will recieve and it will fall out of the sky because humans clutch with fear their pieces of paper.
Sure they throw it at disaster victims ,well to the non entity non profits that dole it out in trickle down economic fashion, never to real human people. So why not give to someone in your neighbor hood? Are you more worthy of God then others? And is your money your real God?

There is no hell but what we create by our choices on earth. Heaven is not a place but a state of being which we are to bring to earth by the choices we make in consciousness.

I know I have been there. Money is not anything but a tool we use as a medium of exchange for goods. I do however find it amazing that we can give someone a piece of paper and get things that are bigger.
Worth is what we believe something is. We are all worthy and if we are all sinners then so is Jesus.
Jesus said we can do everything he did and more. then why do we not yet walk on water, change water into wine, or heal the sick or raise the dead? If we did we would be called devils.
But Jesus made us equal to him, he showed us what we really are, beings of spirit not earth.
We need our physical bodies to transcend but they too will transcend when we transform them into light as he did.
Yes, Jesus told us to give, not to demand and be selfish. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So if we treat others poorly it is how we wish to be treated. Equally it does not mean that if we are treated bad we should do likewise.
Our character is in our control. How we act dictates our character, how someone reacts dictates theirs.
Giving was told of us so we would realize that the only attachment we needed was with Spirit. Spirit is our only supply, "work not for the meat that perisheth."
Giving isn't just about money, and love can never be given it is within us to be love. But money is the thing most people fall on when it comes to releasing something. There seems to be a universal fear of sharing actual paper money.
Why? We are in an emergency situation, in my lifetime I have given so much money and even time including my time as a firefighter, where I gave 110%. Yet now is this hour of need I have reached out for help and the very ones i would expect to help me have slammed the door in my face.
I am not angry, just sad, for them. They said no to an opportunity to give to God. As the kingdom of God is within and the Spirit of God dwells within us, then to everyone you give, you give to God. "Whatsoever you do to the least of these, so you do unto me." There is so much in what he taught that so many don't get as his true meaning have been corrupted by institutionalized religion.
Yes, it is better to give in a state of love because giving in fear is still not faith. Maybe instead of harping on pain or misfortune we use the old adage, "necessity is the mother of invention"
If all of us in need joined together to help one another I believe we would accomplish more. I do no longer give to any church or any charity, as they freely take our money, but fear to give any back when we have a need.
We can always choose our direction, and thus except the path we have chosen and not blame another for our mishaps.

ve money to each other and helped each other get on our feet? Would some evil thing happen? We give money to non profits that rarely actually give to any human person, yet we fear giving to one another.
Who decides who is worthy to recive? I have given to my community as a firefighter, put my life on the line for others with no reward financially. I have served with the Sheriff's office on their Victim response team and have gotten up at all hours to serve others. Yet when we were vicitmized by a crimanal, there is no one there to help us. When I ask for help I am rejected by all including supposed Christians. I do not get welfare or food stamps, my daughter gets medicaid because of seizures. We have gone without our own home and a car for over two years. Am I not worthy of help?
I died when I was 17 and was dead for over 30 minutes, I saw no hell, there was no judgment only unconditional love and a great and enormous peace.
On earth everyone is greedy and selfish and fearful that someone may get some good.
There is so much stuff yet ask for help and everyone acts as if it is the worst thing. They say if someone asks on my behalf, then maybe. But jesus said "ask and ye shall recieve." Obviously he was not talking about humans.
They tell me they will pray for me, in other words we will not be God's hands and feet and feed his sheep. I feel like the man in the good samaritan story, still lying on the side of the road hoping someone still cares.

Just a clue, but you will not need your things there, you will have no body to use them. So is it so terrible to give to another? We through mopney at the Katrina victims, but helping just one human seems beyond us.

As for me I will not claim a label such as Christianity, unless I walk the talk all the time. And I have. I met a women with dreadlocks and a baby, she needed $150 to get a car to go to work. I gave it to her, why because she needed it and I had it and God put her in my way and gave me the opportunity to pass the good he gave to me on to her, knowing he would repay me. Money is just paper we put a value on, yet we value the lives around us not at all. Save the planet, give money. Save the animals, give money, stop abortion, give money, support our cause, give money. Help each other, hell no.

Boulder Valley Women's Health has Plan B Boulder Valley Woimen's Health Center has always stocked Plan B and certainly has it in stock now. As the only Title X provider in Boulder County, BVWHC provides Plan B free to teens during Teen Clinic hours and on a sliding fee scale based on income to all others during regular clinic hours. Pharmacists don't "prescribe" Its important to note that the effect of the FDA's action regarding Plan B is that it is now determined to be so safe that it is sold without any prescription at all (unless you are unfortunate enough to be under 18). So pharmacists don't (or shouldn't) have any control over who gets it and who doesn't. The fact that grocery stores or pharmacies are carrying Plan B "behind" the counter, is only because of the age restriction, not because the pharmacist has any choice in the matter. The real effect of the FDA decision's is to continue to place barriers for teens who are trying to avoid an unintended pregnancy, and who already have plenty of barriers to overcome already: cost, confidentiality, access, education...

What is really harmful to the interests of Democracy is when half of the Democratic Party and their interests are totally ignored. Many Clinton supporters have been driven to Fox and other conservative news sourses because of the totally unfair and unbalanced coverage of our TWO Democratic candidates by outfits like MSNBC and CNN. The progressive blogs have become women hating thuggish places. TMP,Dkos, and Huffpo are nothing more than propaganda sites for Obama. Where is your outrage when Keith Olberman says some guy should take Hillary into to a room and come out with out her? Why isn't Brave New films doing peices of the blatent misogyny rampet in both the MSM and on the internet. Why are you not setting the historical record straight when lies are repeated over and over about the Clinton's records.My eyes have really been opened by this race and I think I can speak for many other women who are wondering if they even want to be part of the Democrat Party. I am a lifelong Democrat and a local activist and a monthly contributor to Brave New films and I am so angry at the treatment of my candidate and her supporters I am reevaluating my association with many progressive causes that I have worked for and contributed to over the years .

After just one week of this course, the preparation you (and the other moderators) put into developing it and the effort you have made in maintaining it is clearly amazing! Just responding to all the posts on the Yahoo! Groups list seems like a full-time job. It's obvious that you and Aaron and Graham have spent innumerable and (what may seem to be endless!) hours putting it all together. There is so much content, it must have been really difficult to figure out how to sequence everything. Although there's definitely a learning curve to figuring out how to navigate through all the sites/pages/wikis/lists, etc., it does eventually become clearer. Perusing the blogs created for this course is already giving me ideas on the kind of content that can be included in a personal blog, and I look forward to learning how to use blogs with my students. I definitely appreciate all the hard work that has gone into developing this course--THANKS!

When I was a child, my mother told me that the reason people have more children, even those who are underprivileged and will struggle to provide for them, is because each child represents hope. As a child, I didn't have any of the sarcastic retorts that now can come to mind. There's still a part of me that believes what she said.

I suppose the reason some people keep “banging on” about sex is that these days homosexuals are great scapegoats on which to blame national tragedies (oh, and abortion). And of course you’ll get your fair share of that lecture reading this magazine. And it’s true.

But I guess another reason (a very good reason I would say) some people are banging on about sex is that that’s an area in which the church has chosen to do its own thing without regard for Scripture (well, they will probably interpret their way right into disobedience to God, while still claiming fidelity to Scripture). I guess I can’t come up with a specific text right now that says, “Forbid all homosexuals from the pulpit” (maybe the qualifications in Timothy would come close, the “husband of one wife” part). But then again I can’t really imagine Christ giving the go-ahead to unrepentant homosexuals actively living the homosexual lifestyle without regret or remorse. And of course, Christ wouldn’t give the go-ahead to anyone equally brazen and foolhardy in their pursuit of adultery, lying, stealing, or whatever other sin you’d like. So homosexuality isn’t privileged in that respect I suppose.

So, if in twenty years the church decides to knowingly ordain men who unrepentantly abuse their wives, then we’ll be banging on about how that also is a sin and that someone who actively pursues that lifestyle is sufficiently rebellious to be excluded from the pulpit. A good way to avoid talking endlessly about that is to not ordain abusive men. And a good way to avoid talking endlessly about homosexual priests and pastors is to not ordain them either. In the meantime, I guess those convinced of the absurdity of ordaining active and unrepentant homosexuals as priests/preachers will continue to bang on about sex.

I suppose I'm inclined to agree that merely being homosexual shouldn't disqualify one from the priesthood. The sexual preferences of priests isn’t my concern. It’s their behavior. Those pursuing homosexual relationships certainly are sinners merely in virtue of that. Of course, this doesn’t mean we have to put the spotlight on homosexuality as though it were privileged in every respect. I suppose in many respects it is like many other sins (Oh, and the respect in which homosexuality and abuse are similar is that they are both sins, and that is all I meant. Of course abuse is worse than homosexuality. If you’re offended by my comparison, pick whatever other sin you please, add “unrepentant pursuit” to it, and it should go through all the same).

My reasoning on this issue is that we shouldn’t ordain people who actively pursue sin as priests. Homosexual behavior is a sin. So, we shouldn’t ordain people who actively pursue homosexual behavior. The argument is valid, so to reject the conclusion you’ll have to reject the truth of one of the premises.

Just to be clear on that argument above, it would probably be better to state it as follows, since the following is clearly valid (the conclusion follows from the premises):

1.) If homosexual acts are sin, we shouldn't ordain those who unrepentantly and actively pursue homosexual acts as preists.
2.) Homosexual acts are sin.
3.) Therefore, we shouldn't ordain those who unrepentantly and actively pursue homosexual acts as priests.

That little modus ponens is clearly valid, so to contest the truth of the conclusion, the truth of the premises have to be contested. By my lights and the authority of Scripture and the Church, the premises are solid. So, the conclusion is guaranteed to be solid. Those that disagree with the conclusion have two premises to attack if they wish. Stating the argument this explicitly allows us to focus in on our discussion and cut through a lot of rubbish in these debates.

You say, “the point is, you start from a premise that is based on interpretation that is not shared by all of Christianity so you immediately lose those who disagree with your premise, thus rendering your argument useless.”
Some who initially disagree with a premise may come to agree with it when evidence is presented. Just because a premise in an argument isn’t persuasive to the whole Christian community is no reason to think it is not a perfectly good premise worth employing in an argument. The arguments from Scripture that Jesus is divine are very good. The fact that some in the Church dispute some of the premises does nothing to subtract from the fact that they are still good arguments. It just means some people aren’t persuaded by reasonable arguments.
Also, you seem to think the only arguments worth stating are ones whose premises enjoy universal agreement. Well, can you produce an argument for that claim only using premises that everyone agrees on? You probably can’t, so I suppose your own claim enjoys no good arguments by your own standards.
You say, “is there any way to know this [the correct interpretation] for sure? unless you are catholic and you think the magisterium interprets scripture infallibly, you cannot say that the "correct interpretation" can be known. you can express your opinion and i can express mine, but we must acknowledge that we could always be wrong.”
You seem to think that to know something you have to have infallibility, that it must not be possible for you to be wrong. Let me just say that that sort of outdated Cartesian epistemology is almost universally rejected by scholars. You give no arguments for that, but simply assert it. That that standard for knowledge is far too high is immediately obvious. Of course I can know things that I could be wrong about. Right now I know my car is in the parking lot, but I suppose I could be wrong about that (someone may have stolen it). I know how old I am, but I suppose I could have been lied to and actually be a few months younger. I know my name, but I suppose every time I try to recall it my brain tricks me into thinking it’s something else, like Jill or Ted.
And might I ask you this—if you think infallible certainty is the measure of knowledge, then would you claim to KNOW whether any biblical interpretations are true? Which interpretations are you infallibly sure are correct? If none, then you by your own admission don’t know much about what interpretations are correct, which leaves you with very little confidence about most of the Bible, and hardly any grounds to talk to me.
Anyway, I have no interest in digressing into debates in epistemology. If someone is going to say that my argument is shaky because every Christian to come down the birth canal doesn’t agree, then I suppose I will stop the conversation there with a “I think that’s insane.” The way I see it, we should be concerned with these questions—Are there good reasons biblically to think God approves of homosexual relationships? Are there good reasons biblically to think God does not approve of homosexual relationships? After that, we weigh the evidence, and my bet is that it will land decisively against God’s approval of homosexual relationships.

I'm sorry that you think me referring to an infallibilist Cartesian epistemology as "insane" is mean, because I think that's probably close to the truth. If infallible certainty is required for knowledge, then we can't know our own names. And any philosophy that tells me I can't know my own name is, well, insane. People unknowingly and uncritically entertain insane philosophies all the time, and that doesn't make them insane. But of course, it doesn't mean that the philosophies themselves are not insane. It may not feel like a lick of ice cream to hear someone say a philosophy you hold is insane, but if they think that it is, then I suppose they are just speaking their minds. But anyway, I'm not committed to the word "insane" in the first place; "irrational," "unjustified," "plainly false," and "an offense to reason" will all work as well.

I would challenge any competent reader to review my posts in search for the slightest hint that I believe my views on homosexuality and the Bible are infallible. You will not find it. What you will find, however, is a high degree of confidence that my views are correct and most reasonable. To some this comes off as arrogant, as though I thought my views on this issue were infallible. My babe didn't have much of a schedule until at least 3 months and that's typical from other moms I've known. A pattern, maybe, but no schedule just yet.You may even see references to the "fourth trimester" if you do some googling. For the first 3 months or so, anything is game. You can't spoil a baby in this period and you can't do anything that can't be undone. So let her guide (feeding, sleeping, etc.) for now.And as for sleeping in her own bed - I'm with you. I was highly uncomfortable while DD was in bed. Not because of her exactly but because I was trying not to make her uncomfortable and scared of smothering her. My only advice is to put her elsewhere and swaddle, swaddle, SWADDLE. Really wish I had figured that one out sooner. We swaddled until it wasn't possible anymore (~5 months) and DD slept much better when bundled up.

This list of homework tips for parents is a wonderful foundation to build upon. The one aspect of helping children with homework that is rarely addressed is "how". How do I help my child to memorize those spelling words? How do I help him or her to comprehend what is read? How do I help the child with that paper he/she has to write. Parents often end up frustrated and feeling ineffective because they don't know how to help their children to be successful. This is especially true of parents with children who have learning difficulties.

Recent scientific research has confirmed that we all have different learning preferences and that we all learn best with different strategies. Brain research has shown that regardless of learning style, we all process information in specific ways.

For example, here's one of my favorite (and very easy) strategies:

§ Have children print information to be memorized.

§ Border key spelling words, people, places, etc.

§ Have children use two colors when working alternating the color of each fact they are writing in their notes. Color makes facts stand out as unique. If all notes are in one color, nothing stands out as unique and is therefore harder to remember.

§ Highlight important information, not EVERYTHING.

§ Alternate color gel pens, markers, crayons, etc.

Here's a strategy for studying vocabulary words:

Vocabulary Study Strategy

1. Choose a vocabulary word.

2. Print it on one side of a “flash” card. (Use index cards, heavy paper cut into strips, etc.)

3. it.

4. Ask your child to tell you what he or she thinks it means so that it draws from what your child already knows.

5. Reinforce the correct definition.

6. Print the definition on the other side of the “flash” card.

7. Stand and act out a movement for the word while spelling it aloud three times!

Start the process over with the next word on the spelling or vocabulary list.

If your child’s teacher requires that he or she write the words three times each in cursive, ask the teacher if your child can write the word two times in cursive and one time printed on a flash card. Explain that you are better able to help your child with flash cards. Some children will not mind writing the words four times each. My children, however, objected to the extra work and even insisted, “But the teacher says I have to do it THIS way!” So, I made a deal with the teacher to have one set of words on flash cards and the teacher told my child that it was Okay.

In the meantime I imagined the horrors of Iraqi's on a daily basis. Where was the justice and who were the benefactors? Yes I believe resisting the war has lost me employment, my internet server wants to cancel me (maybe due to a letter I submitted on peace published in Aljazeera this past year)and somehow I am at peace with my conscience. I gave support to conscientious objectors and to military members doing a great service for our country. I give no support for the embarassment brought to our country by the mandates of the CPA, and the representation that has taken us down a long hard road of immorality.

Tror ikke det bliver nødvendigt med P-ryge vagter, jeg tror folk hurtig vil vænne sig til
ikke at ryge indendørs.
Det sjove er at da jeg var i London sidste gang, var der rygrforbud overalt
og foran pubberne stod folk i 100 vis med deres øl og cigaretter, snakkede
og sang. Det var bare top hyggeligt. Jeg må lige tilføje at indenfor på selve pubberne
var der gabende tomt, alt det sjove skete nu udenfor. Spændende om
" gå i byen livet" vil ændre sig lige så meget i København.

Thank you, Sara, for the mention! I am so thrilled that you are enjoying the painting and that it has a good home with you and Riley. I'll tell ya, that Riley is somethin' else. He is the cutest thing ever! He looks almost just like our "Hannah." She is a malti-tzu pup and adorable. Is Riley a Malti-tzu? They look so much alike. Oh, and I like the haircut on Riley and will be taking Hannah to the groomers for the same haircut. I like the hair out of Riley's eyes and not so much below his chin. He looks so well groomed.

God's timing never ceases to amaze me. Tomorrow marks two weeks since my grandfather died unexpectedly. I'm still trying to figure out how to go about my "normal" life. I know that God will bring me through this, but to be honest, some days I am just overwhelmed. I'm not saying all of this to try to get anyone's pity or anything like that. I'm just being honest. Reading this blog entry meant a lot to me and actually was a visual way of God telling me, "I've got everything under control. It will all work out."

I love it that you never seem to have any fear. I have a chronic pain problem, not as bad as yours. But I can't exercise, and am very limited in how many hours I can be up in a day. Today I did too much and had a bad reaction, and it scared me. I guess I'm afraid it might indicate another, serious problem. It calms me to read your blog. Thank you.

I believe social network is not just social networking, but in fact exposing one's personal information, personal thoughts and beliefs more vigourously than sharing one's thoughts and ideas and information on one's own blog.

On your blog, you can limit or disable RSS feeds that your blog delivers to the outer world. You can limit the content display to different groups of people. Your blog is your own blog, not as in case of social networking platforms. There, its the 3rd part that owns all your information, and it's the members of the platform owned by the 3rd party that even the 3rd party isn't aware of... that have full access to your personal information, such as what's your overall background and who your friends are and what you do!

Geithner is absolutely the wrong person to be Secr. of U.S. Treasury. He also apparently tried to take his kids' time at summer camp as a tax deduction. Also, he played a big part in the first bailout which has had no effect whatsoever.

And I saw him on TV today, reading - Yes, READING - his simple little "apology". Not heart felt at all.

I, too, believe it's immoral for him to head Treasury. But, alas, I can't seem to weild any power here.

Know anyone who can? Because I'd sure love to talk to them!

You are right on about self-medicating to mask self-esteem issues, chris. I've often thought some form of self-analysis or therapy should be required for all middle to high school aged students. I'm only now beginning to understand those behaviors in myself. And even though I am at my best weight ever and probably thinner than most women my age, my weight and what I put in my mouth are on my mind constantly. I'm still my own harshest judge.

I agree Mia. But some understanding of self-esteem issues is critical. Otherwise, when the running stops, old habits can re-surface. You know, like when you are running to run away from something, but you don't ever figure out what you're running away from. But I do agree--just telling a kid he's a good whatever, doesn't make him good. It's the accomplishment.

The reality is Kat is probably right...but I do find kinship/support in the other kinds of comments as well. I'm not always up, and it's good to see people have a crummy day and then regroup and get on with it!

I like the idea of having enough discipline to handle a fast. But the past year, I've tried instead to maintain a regular, consistent pattern to my eating. When I tried to fast, I seemed to make up for it the next day with too much food. I do agree with you about emotional, stress eating. And when that happens, a cleansing day is probably a good idea. This is the one that nearly killed me. Because I could no longer live at home by that point, I had to drop an extra $15k on graduate school despite a full assistantship, because my stipend was almost nonexistent and I wasn't allowed to hold an outside full-time job, so I was living on loans.

I got almost *nothing* out of that last year of classes, accounting-wise. It was mostly electives and expansions on things I already knew. Reasonably good instructors, interesting material, but it didn't make me a better accountant. I got another piece of paper, that was all. And I'm going to be paying for it for another ten years, probably. :/

If I could have spent that year actually working and studying for the exam, I'd be in a worlds better place right now, aside from not being in nearly so much debt.

Oh this happened to us too, we went ahead and got an offer, and got a solicitor, and the house sale was going through, and then they pulled out!
We could not believe it!
We had to wait another two years until God gave us the house that HE intended for us to have and it was just so much better than the previous one had been!
Also one thing we were buying with the previous house was a fantastic view. Six months after the sale had stopped it was announced that this fantastic view was to become a housing estate. The fantastic view is now a 6 foot high brick wall!
God just so knew what was going on there!

On the contrary of the negative comments being pelted at the Ummels, I am one to stand right next to her and her husband in hopes of a Victory on their behalf.
She is not deficient on "Common Sense" she is "Courageous" to take on an Industry that has been "Taking Advantage" of the Real Estate Consumer in California for years! I applaud her for standing up to make a difference in this Industry!
Real Estate agents capitalize on not having to be accountable for their contractural Fiduciary Responsibility to their client. In addition,they are not held accountable for the Code of Ethics that they proudly pride themselves on. Most of these agents go out and subscribe to C.A.R. which is an Association that tells the Consumer that they are PROFESSIONALS and that you can TRUST them... Fidicuary Duty, TRUST and Professionalism those are the key words! And they should be held accountable for these words when they sign that contract with their client!
I am also in the middle of a lawsuit with my Realtor and his Broker. This began in 2005 and I am still fighting this case!
But guess what, not only was my realtor dishonest, he also had a CRIMINAL record! Oh well, I am told, some of these guys SLIP THRU the CRACKS! I can tell you right now that if I had known he had a criminal record I would have never ever hired him!
This Real Estate Industry is in a BIG MESS and if the Ummels win, (I hope they do) maybe then it will be the beginning of some much needed changes

Your story is incredible. I, too, have suffered with great back pain since I was a teenager, but mine started out due to Scoliosis, now 20+ years after having surgery to correct the scoliosis, I have degenerative disc disease - but like you, I live with it, but it doesn't control my life. It is only a part of who I am. Your story was inspirational. You have a true gift for writing and expression and will surely be an inspiration to many who suffer with illnesses on a daily basis. Beautifully said! What a wonderful story - inspirational and cause for reflection. By the way, all 3 of my young children ran to my computer to see the pictures of Riley. He is so sweet! My daughter, Sarah, just adopted a puppy - a Malti-tzu (half Maltese and half Shih-tzu). She (Hannah the puppy) is adorable, all white, big black eyes like marbles, and likes to poop under our piano. Help! She is only 14 weeks old, we've just never crate or house trained a puppy before, so we are struggling. She is so cute, though. Oh, and how do you keep Riley so white?!!

I'm a new Animal Collective fan. I never really "got" or was interested in much of their stuff until I heard this record. It is fantastic. Christian got it right...fresh, exciting and unpredictable. Interesting tidbit on Whitney Pastorek! Did you know her? Tad was in the same class at Duke as Dave Karger, the EW Oscar guy. I tried to get him to introduce me at his college reunion, but he knew my pop culture nerdiness would take over and likely embarass everyone involved. EW's music writing/coverage has been piss poor for years, but I've seen some mild improvement recently. Anyway, I'll have to give this album a listen. I am really liking the new Animal Collective! I started carrying around reusable shopping bags last fall -- I highly recommend the string kind. The benefits are numerous -- you can fit TONS of groceries in them, the handles don't hurt your hands as much when the bag is full, cashiers/baggers find them interesting, and some stores even offer small financial incentives (like $0.05 per bag taken off your order). Not to mention the warm fuzzy goodness of making a difference! :-)

The hardest part is training yourself to grab them on your way out the door!

I will never want to try some of Wayne's recommended techniques, no matter how much gas I need to save. Such practices may double your mileage, but they more than double (quintuple? dodecatuple?) your risk for getting killed on the highway. Is tailgating semis, taking exit ramps at 52 mph, and pissing off other drivers an example I want to show my kids? No thanks!

I'll stick to the conservative traditional methods: drive conservatively, at or below the speed limit, keep tires inflated, and so on. As Leszek notes, you'll still get plenty of benefits.

I still recommend reading the article, though, it's well-written and interesting. And once you're finished with it, find a few REALISTIC tips for cutting down on gas consumption :-)

As somebody who works in the low levels of Ford's engineering departments, I can guarantee you they don't care about the environment until there's a regulation in place to force them. This isn't because they're a bad company necessarily, I think it is mostly because they are incapable of making simple common-sense changes, let alone taking a revolutionary new direction in car concept and design. Once the culture of incompetence changes on the inside, the cars they output will improve immeasurably.

I do not have first-hand experience of other auto makers, but given the products available on the market today, I imagine they're all on the same page. Profit comes first, planet comes ... hmm, not even second, somewhere around fourty-ninth, I imagine.

I like that you can put it together at home, but it doesn't look like it's post consumer or post industrial, maybe scrap, which is fine too. To the 1st poster: You can always cut the rivets off, but is this material recyclable anyway? The bag should last long enough to be it's final purpose.

I don't know about this. It throws the market for good design out the window and makes it hard for competing quality designers to get paid. Also, with no fees for plans, who is paying for the engineering?

akshuga: I don't know in which state you live, but until recently, here in Florida, it was illegal to give leftover food to homeless shelters or anywhere but the dumpster. I have to give kudos to Charlie Christ for passing legislation to reverse that.

One more thing I'd like to say is that more food is wasted before it even hits the store than could ever be wasted in our homes! A trucker once told me that a grocery store can refuse a whole truckload of produce if they don't like the way it looks when they open the truck. The driver then has to dump the whole load and pay to do so. First, he will look in the yellow pages for a farmer's market who will take it cheap, or he can sell it as compost to a farmer, but if there is none, then in the trash it goes. :-(

Tap is great, but be absolutely sure to filter it!!! Tap water contains chlorine which kills bacteria in the water, but also kills the good bacteria (probiotics) living in our stomachs and intestines, leaving the body susceptible to chronic disease. That is why you should never swallow even small amounts of pool water. Most filters on the market remove 100% of the chlorine, you can check the maufacturer's box, or look online. Brita and Pur both do, I know for sure. Cheers!

Fine if you live IN this structure, but unfortunate to have to look at this floating around in the lake if you live in a house on the shore. For such an organic theme, it sure is boxy. Also, you can't really live on the ocean with this because the salt water will kill the plants.

Patch it til you can patch no more. Then remove the fabric and let the vines take over the roof. Steel is never a good idea for something that stays outside. Too late now, but next time, look for aluminum to avoid rust. If you ever need to dispose of this, someone will pick it up free if you put an ad on Craigslist. They will scrap it, or find a way to reuse it.

Your experience of having the verbally quiet kids be much more active has been replicated informally by others. I experienced it two years ago when I opened a chat room and forums in my Moodle. I was amazed and delighted to find some of my quiet students suddenly finding their voice there. I found it interesting that some of my more verbal students took much longer to get past the playing stage. Made me wonder if they were missing the feeling of having people look at them, physically give them attention through body language.

A few years ago, a colleague in Kuala Lumpur brought her math class into the lab and they used a chat room to discuss some content. She said it was the best discussion they'd had because everyone was engaged and so many more took part than usual.

I hope you'll continue to blog about your backchannel experiences.

Not that I believe him. And I'm glad that he's going to trial so that it can be determined what his involvement actually was.

However, I do think that if you're going to post a quote from someone, and then take it out of context, that it's dishonest reporting.

We're not going by what Victoria said. We're going by what we saw, with our own eyes, on the video that the attackers made. I heard one of them saying, "oooh yeah!" When one of the attackers hit her particularly hard and furious. I'm outraged by this horrendous beating. These criminals deserve to be tried as adults for this heinous crime, and to do some hard time.

And btw, it IS my business. I have a right to voice my outrage at this crime. I hope that the fact that so many good people have expressed sorrow and outrage over this, that these teenagers will meet justice.

I think that we needs laws that make participants of mob beatings face stiffer penalties. Persons involved in mob beatings should be tried for assault with a deadly weapon (mobs are deadly weapons), or even, attempted murder, since mob beatings can go as far as murder. They should get automatic long prison sentences with no possibility of parole. We, as a society, need to find a way to curtail this horrible violence in which the victims don't stand a chance for defending themselves.

I know that i had already left my opinion and how i feel about different things that just don't seem quite right about Thomas Hollier. But i couldn't read Crystal's comment and just not say OH MY GOD. U are absolutely right on. My husband and i discuss this case on a regular basis...i think, because it is just so bizarre and so sad and we just feel as though there is some involvement that has yet to be looked into. Crystal, every single thing that you touched on, my husband and i have, to say the least, overtalked...but the thing that we didn't think about was the key or the door being unlocked. It just didnt make sense to us that Krista would just like open the door to Dustin and invite him in. Dustin wasn't on Krista's friends list anywhere on either page. Ok, they may very well have started to develop a friendship, but how close could they have gotten in a month. I just put myself in that situation, and yes, i am 37 years old, but i still don't know that i would feel comfortable opening the door to #1 a man that is not my husband or boyfriend and #2 a man that is dating my boyfriends ex-girlfriend and say, "Oh, come on in and play video games." From the very beginning it was said that Navarra was threatening Krista and had a great deal of hostility toward her. Give me a break, before they stripped Navarra's page, we were able to access it, and, my God, it was scary and she was very clear that she was fatally obsessed with Hollier so why is it now being said that they were doubledating and the four of them were friendly. But, then again, who came up with that....hmmm....HOLLIER. And u mention Dustin being on Hollier's friends list. Dustin also left a friendly picture comment under one of Hollier's pictures. It was evident that Gran and Hollier were friends. And Navarra left a comment under one of Hollier's pictures about loving him and that he needs to be sure that he does not want to be with her...something to that effect....that was on December 31, 2007....just 2 weeks before Krista was MUTILATED. We could go on and on about all of the what seems to us to be obvious unanswered concerns. COME ON, i just don't understand why the MADERA POLICE DEPT have yet to look into any of this. But then again, and that's another thing, Hollier, who over and over again thanks the Madera PD for their "fine" job (because they have yet to name him)for quickly solving this case and finding the people that did this to his "soulmate" (but as my husband points out Hollier proclaims to be an atheist and wants to meet the devil. And last time we checked, atheist dont believe that you have a soul. IDK another inconsistency with Hollier) Anyway, hmmmm, maybe its just me, but i seriously doubt that God will allow Hollier's demonic soul to be with Krista's in Heaven, where, without a doubt, Krista is.

As soon as i heard about this horrific murder, i accessed Dustin Gran's myspace page before they stripped it offline all together and found myself playing detective. Before long, just by his page, i figured out who the players were. Now that it all out, there is just one thing that i want to touch on that has yet to even really been brought out, surprisingly. I am no one to judge by any means, but just based on the myspace page itself, i was not impressed with Thomas Hollier, the boyfriend, that this whole thing was apparently about. Lets just say that Gran's and Navarra's pages were not the only ones that were demonic and violent. I understand that in this country we have the freedom of religion...Hollier listed atheist....ok, under loves....his answer....killing things. And what just gave me a sick feeling in my stomach....under who do you want to meet....Hollier's answer....the devil. Ok disturbing. Again, i am no one to judge, but in my opinion....BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR. In this case, in my opinion, he met the devil. And there is a picture of him wearing glasses on the front page of the Madera Tribune. Hollier's page was extremely demonic and violent and to say the least it was very unpleasant and volatile, that is, until he changed it and it is now reads a "Tribute to Krista-Rae Pike" By all means a nicer page...again, i just want to say that i was so unimpressed with "the boyfriend" that it was so hard to feel sorry for him, but my heart ached for Krista, an innocent victim, in a very disturbing tragedy.

I was at chemotherapy last week and learned from a fellow patient who was a fireman and rescuer at the site at Top O' the World where Jessie's body was recovered - and that the "alleged" murdered and his accomplice BURNED THE BODY of the pregnant Jessie Davis and her 9 month old baby. That is why the autopsy is so slow in coming out and why the body is severely decomposed.

I am VERY upset over the covering up of evidence by this cop and his friend. Chlorox to remove blood evidence...and then...BURN THE BODY to render the autopsy devoid of evidence!!!

I want this person to get the death penalty, but I am afraid it may not even be close to that. I think it will be hard to get a hard case unless Myisha helps.

All Kids is a program thats needed and useful. The fact that the State has 5000 kids already signed up is a huge plus. Because of All Kids outreach efforts across the state, thousands and thousands of kids were able to be signed up for the existing program. I agree we need to give it a chance and take a look at the families that it's already helping.

I early voted for Whitney. It wasn't a protest vote, it wasn't a none of the above vote. I voted for Whitney because he is the only candidate on the ballot who has real ideas on how to clean up Illinois and properly fund education.
I'm proud to vote Green and anticipate voting for more Green candidates in the future once they gain established party status.

I don't understand how Whitney's positions from over a decade ago have any relevance on the current campaign. If any of you would read his policy papers or go observe a speaking event you would realize that he doesn't fall in line with the socialist party anymore. People grow up, people change. This is obviously an orchestrated attack in the last days of the campaign to bring down Whitney's support. I think it's hilarious that the only negative thing they can pin on him is from 14 years ago.

Rinpoche teaches that such things happen all the time. He also teaches that even the most seemingly significant vision can become a great obstacle. He teaches that it is best to just continue with one's practice no matter what happened in the past, or what happens to arise at present.

Rinpoche believes it is not only possible but probable that a person with no prior exposure to Buddhism could still have the visionary experience of a Buddhist deity. He is always very careful to say that there is the initial experience of the deity, after which the mind struggles with the vision in an attempt to give it a name. In the Christian countries, he believes the deities appear in their pure form and the people then label them according to their experience. He believes that very young children can see the deities quite clearly.

Hi I often buy my perfume from cheap smells but i must admit id never thought about trying an organic perfume, and certainly would like some samples next time i order, so i may use futurenatural.

Incidentally having never tried an organic perfume before, does it feel different to a synthetic one?

Yeah for Gauge! It is a huge deal! We are struggling with potty training here at our house and we've been working on it for almost a year! Davis will be 4 in January and knows how to do it, he just doesn't want to be bothered going. Hope your potty training experience with Gauge is better than mine.

That looks fabulous. It has been forever since I've been to the circus. Both my girls went during their Kindergarten year on a field trip, but I was never able to go. I can see why there were mesmerized - look at all the colors and action. Glad you all had a great time.

I completely agree with you. I wish I lived closer to my parents and brother (who live in Florida). I am fortunate that we do get to see them at least every 3 months. (In fact, that's where I am right now). Lucky you to be so close to all your family!
