This is not my fight and I'm not going near it. But since part of this is giving credit--or blame--where it is due, I'd like to point out that Robert Scoble did not write Naked Conversations. He co-authored it with me. I wrote the particular passage that you are quoting.You must have known this, since I met you at the TechCrunch party you mention. I'm pretty certain, you'll find my signature inside that book. You may want the links. I would just like the credit for my role with the book.

Thanks so much for these very kind and supportive words. We are following your advice and breaking up the trip, with the European leg starting on or about Sept.1. Just for the record, Rick Segal is indeed an American born VC. He is neither big, nor bad, nor an American resident, but is a partner in JLA in Toronto. In fact, the Canadian government is being very supportive of this adventure, letting has have meeting spaces in Canadian embassies around the world. My government, on the other hand, would probably be too busy reading my phone log to afford us such help.

I would guess that a great number of us bloggers share Craig's high esteem of journalists. If there was a bump at WeMedia, it wasn't between bloggers and journalists. It was between new media champions and old media dinosaurs. The people running media companies are not journalists. They regard journalists as an overhead problem, just one evolutionary step above the swamp creatures known as bloggers.

I'm with you on this I think it sucks. The thing about online communities is precisely that geography becomes irrelevent. This sounds to me like yet another large incumbent trying to "own" a community. They would be wiser to just host it and let the community own itself. Blog.tv is very cool and you deserve the right to watch it from wherever you are.

Hey drums,

I appreciate your point about Scoble speaking in the third person. Yep, it's different than in the blog, because, I was his partner in the book. There were two of us, and from time to time we stepped into the story of the book itself. So, it would have been difficult using the "I" voice since there were two of us, don't you think? I do regret your saying the book was not naked in tone or transparency. We went through a great deal of trouble to make the entire process of writing this book more open than has previously achieved. I would welcome any suggestios on how any next book by either one of the two authors could be more naked. By the way, that's a nice picture of you and your family, but you culd be a bit more transparent yourself, by revealing your actual name.

Perhaps it would be constructive to mention that when Peter made those statements, the prduct was in very early Alpha. Products in very early Alpha by definition do not perform at optimal levels.

For PR practitioners who are still in love with the command and control tactics of yore, I see a bright future for them in the restaurant service industry. The blogging genie is out of the bottle. He/she (genies have no sex) is taller, better looking, more trustd and more popular than traditional PR poractitioners.

First off--very weird connect. The Shawmut Diner on Rt 6A in Wareham or Fairhaven? I grew up eat cheeseburgers there.

By statute, all directions given to visitahs by Cape Coddahs are always fictitious. That's how we can telkl the insidahs from the outsidahs. For years we used to just say "You can't get there from here," to anyone who asked directions. The trouble is, that then people would never leave.

Except neither Naked Conversations (#2) nor ItSeemstome (#4) are actually PR sites. In any case, they are driving lots of traffic, which means we'll probably remain prominent because they made the list to begin with.

Nice article, but you missed a few Fortune 500 companies with blogs including HP, Ford Motors, IBM and Microsoft who now has about 1500 bloggers. Other large organizations include the BBC, Dallas Mavericks, Edelman PR, Nissan, Proctor and Gamble, Starbucks and a great many more. Blogging seems to be pervasive at all levels of business, and it seems to be an asset on all levels as well.

Thanks so much for making this happen and I'm excited to see Dublin for the first time. Regarding these one-on-ones. Both Rick and I are looking for people with great ideas about Ireland and what's going to happen there for entrepreneurs in the next five years or so. Scoble and the other 2500 Microsoft employees who blog do it on their own time, discussing what they choose to discuss. On more than one occassion, Micrposoft PR has infrmed bloggers of upcoming news and has asked them to participate in issues. But Microsoft cannot direct their blogging army to become part of some integrated marketing campaign to take on a cmpetitor.
