1. What's your endgame with Techcrunch?
2. What did you do with that Ottawa tech company?
3. Is the feud with Denton good for business for both of you?

Hard to believe that the stock can be so easily manipulated like that from a rumored story. Journalists beware.

in Yahoo! This peanut butter is del.icio.us on Mathew's comments
I agree with Brent that Yahoo! has some excellent engineers. I think most of them are frustrated by the business folks and its at their feet that the blame lies here. They're good people and hopefully this memos dislodges something there.
Keep your eye on Susan Decker. Rosensweig is too close to Terry and not respected enough by the rank-and-file Yahoo!s

in Damning Internal Yahoo Memo Leaked on Marketing Pilgrim
This memo suggests that much more clarity is needed from Yahoo's CEO. It appears to be time for Terry Semel to retire and I would suggest that Susan Decker take over.

We'll see.
Just out of curiosity, how long have you been writing for the Globe? It's been at least since the mid-90s, right?
Best wishes,
Eric

Mathew: I enjoy your stuff. You\'ve transitioned well to tech from your days of covering the west.
I think this news + the \"peanut butter manifesto\" is a sign that more changes are in the works. However, probably not fast enough. What is really required is a change at the top. I summarize why in this open letter to Jerry Yang and David Filo:
Thanks,
Eric

Yahoo has dithered on this - no question. It's unlikely that, even if they consummate a deal, it will be that great for them. Yet, it symbolizes how they've been much too slow to act in the last 12 months. Terry Semel needs to shoulder some of the responsibility for this and turn this around to Yahoo's benefit. Here are some suggestions on what he needs to do first:

This deal is more than a "tuck in" acquisition or removing a player from the social networking space. It's transformative for Google and their Second Act. It allows them to be a category-killer in a space outside of but adjacent to search. Congrats to them and I write more about the deal here: http://breakoutperformance.blogspot.com/2006/10...
