This is absurd. Yes, the oil companies have achieved record profits, but who benefits from that? It would be nice if it was mentioned that 50% of American households who have investments in stocks and mutual funds are directly benefited by this. If we are to prevent oil companies from realizing profits, why stop there? We might as well start taxing Microsoft for windfall profits, then move on to Apple and other great American industries. Get real, this is a capitalist country and criticizing a company for making money is akin to condemning a baseball team for prolonging a winning streak.
From what your post described, and not possessing too much outside knowledge of Facebook's advertising scheme, it looks to me like their system is fairly antequated. Arent most ads targeted? If Facebook cannot provide a cutting edge system for connecting advertisers with their target demographic, how do they expect to make money? Its not like they sell anything...
