in In Defense of Soulja Boy on The Black Critic
The problem is not Soulja Boy, it is the message that he is selling. Even Kool Keith (and all of his various personae) sold his sexuality with tongue in cheek, acknowledging the misogyny of the lyrics. Soula Boy represents (not causes) the degredation of all people.

I applaud your criticisms, but I do want to point out that you speak for people of all races, and that your problem with "hater-ism" applies to everyone, not just the African-American community. So, please, continue to speak out for everyone.

But, I do have to agree with Ice-T on this: Soulja Boy is hurting music. Thoughtless lyrics, awful beats, and a middle-school appropriate scatological humor. Remember, Ice-T knows more about music than just rap. His work with Body Count shows that he has an ear for a wide variety of quality music. So, his opinions do come from experience. Though, they are just opinions.

in The New Canon 5D Mark II and Installation of a Professional Video Finder - The Digital Journalist on The Digital Journalist
How do you focus at f1.4 and f1.2 with a composite resolution video output? It's already hard enough using the high res LCD in the back of the 5D2. It will be impossible to acquire precise focus at wide open apertures.

in 2008 in Retrospect on Home Office Voice
It's a pity that RSS didn't take off. It's a useful tool and avoids cluttering up an e-mail inbox. One of my New Year's resolutions is to pair down my list of subscribed feeds. This site will be staying on that list.

One thing that surprises me about 2008 is that some of the old players need to get on the Web 2.0 bandwagon. Ebay and Amazon are examples - their look and feel is still so 2000! Messy and complicated layouts and tiny fonts!

Other Pro sports started their downturn with the past few months. Paintball started its downturn two years ago. The economy is just going to make it that much worse.

in Overnight success takes a long time on Paul Buchheit
Paul,

I agree with your argument about FriendFeed. The "lite" version might be a good idea so that it is like Google where you visite the webpage and start using it. Another thing is this concept of "feed" or "RSS" that many many people are not comfortable with. My points on FriendFeed:

- FriendFeed is a good service with good intention trying to make people see what they are doing
- You can't compare the Gmail example with FriendFeed, because email has been there like yahoo mail and hotmail, so people already understood about email and it really wasn't hard for people to start using gmail because it is another email. But frienfeed is different, "social aggregator" is new so people *just* don't know or some of them don't care. They would just rather go to that site and see.
-Centralize some of the content by making users do more on FriendFeed. Pulling stuff from different sites are great, but show that FriendFeed is in control by allowing people to post, delete, update (i know friendfeed already does the comment) more, more on different areas. People need to trust the service and firmly state quality and in control aspect of Friendfeed. Right now it just seems it is pulling bunch of things from everywhere and just dropping it on the user and have them organize
-More organize the information. Now it is a bunch of lists, organize that stuff. Break it down by content, politics, military ( i know the friendfeed room ), organize. break it down by date, month, year, split the area in to pictures, blogs, services (people posted XXXDfSDF on twitter, #(#(J# on flickr) or whatever. Right now it just seems like friendfeed just pulled it and spitted it back to the user.
-Be more aggressive, expand in to different areas. If the initial idea seems not realistic, just change it the next week. Who cares, expand new service, but my main point to you is this organization of all these entries (feeds). Those need to be broken down and simplified.

SHUT. UP. For the love of God. Stop talking. It's embarrassing. You're embarrassingly inane.

Can the other two girls at least respond and say what they don't like about Julia? How about she's a horrible bitch? Never stops talking about herself? loves to make herself an embarrassing spectacle? Acts like a 12 year-old on a regular basis? Has fat thights yet continually wears short skirts? Wears enough makeup for a 50 year old tranny prostitute? There must be more.

I love how she has these page view projections/goals, yet does not in any way elaborate on how to actually make that happen. I thinks she and everyone else knows the only way she will reach that point is to continue to be an absolute fucking train wreck of a horrible person, and people will continue to look for the sociological perspective, as "exhibit A" of (insert personality disorder).

The only way she will even come close to this is by being a fucknut. Lord knows, it won't be about the actual content, which is severely lacking.

Just keep being you, glorious, narcissistic, neurotic, horrible you, miss JA. You might just meet your goals. Bring on the hate.

in Paintball Reserve - NPL / USPA plan to run national size Huntington... on Paintball Reserve
Actually, that's kinda what bothers me. I know this doesn't make financial sense. So there's two possibilities - they do not understand that this doesn't make financial sense, or they DO understand, and have some other game afoot. It's not like Chuck hasn't done the sell-money-losing-player-league trick before.

Also remember, Chuck and Tom have NEVER run major paintball events. The PSP promoters ran the events for the old NPPL and Pure Promotions ran the events for NPPL 2 and Shawn lost a pile of money running events for NPPL 3. The only thing Chuck has ever run is a membership program.

I'm sorry if the reality is disconcerting to you, but it's not uninformed reality.

Well duh. The trick is making MORE money than it COSTS to be there.
me Once again you don't know what your talking about. You think Chuck and Tom don't know that. Do you think they would bother if they did'nt look into it. you don't know the specifics of running an event or what will happen in HB, YOU JUST SOUND STUPID TALKING LIKE YOU DO

in Paintball Reserve - NPL / USPA plan to run national size Huntington... on Paintball Reserve
Think about it.

Pure Promotions was losing money running NPPL. Pacific Paintball was losing money running NPPL. Now there is even less teams and less sponsorship, what magic is suddenly going to make running events a moneymaking proposition?

Huntington beach is the MOST EXPENSIVE place to run an event, by far. That money has to come from somewhere.
me your an idiot, money in events dosen't just come from teams. Take it from someone who worked for nppl for 5 years. HB has always been our biggest event and Chuck knows there are other ways to make money in HB. You should stick to playing paintball and stop prentending to know what your talking about as far as events go.

in Paintball Reserve - NPL / USPA plan to run national size Huntington... on Paintball Reserve
You think they'll get 400 teams? Nope. They can't run enough teams to make money on HB without industry money, and there just isn't any industry money for an event like HB. Too expensive to run.

He didn't have the power to sell the league last time either, but didn't seem to stop him, did it?

What's going to happen when the Pro teams kick in tens of thousands they can't afford to lose and Huntington Beach loses money? Then what are you going to do?

I hope nobody is gambling money they can't afford to lose.

Tim i dont think an HB event will ever be a flop never has been, enough teams will come.

These 7-man players think of coaching like a 7-man game with one guy on the sideline telling the players what to do. They don't seem to understand that that isn't XBall. XBall is 500 people on the sideline telling players what to do - which is actually less coaching that 7-man has where it's the one cheater on the sideline bird dogging or making hand signals.

Because they *ARE* threatened!

The sport can't afford two leagues right now. Adding another could very well kill them both.

So, apparently this is going to be a "player owned league" with Chuck as President.

Does anyone remember what happened the last time Chuck was President of the player-owned league?

Any bets on how long it takes Chuck to sell this one?
