in How do you keep your stuff private on WiFi networks? on Scobleizer
I can secure IM with 256-bit AES encryption...using SSH Dynamic Port Fowarding. It's not that difficult. Plus, you can still use your favorite client, like Gaim.

"I was talking with a geek who’ll remain unnamed and he was telling me how easy it is for someone to sit at a Starbucks, slurp off the local WiFi, and recreate almost everything you do"

You mean, like Wireshark, tcpdump/tcpreplay, dsniff, ettercap, Cain and Abel, kismet, and ngrep? What about vulnerability scanners, like Nessus, Retina, and Sara? What about netcat, Hping2, nmap, and Metasploit?

I really love how Scoble thinks he knows something we don't. Really, Scoble? You can be attacked at a PUBLIC WIFI spot? You don't say!

Seriously, you're a joke, Scoble. Go back to your Web 2.0.

Yeah, it's called Open SSH (sshd).

Scoble, what the hell? In this post, you wrote:

"I don’t want to see blogs that, when it finally ships, says 'wait for the service pack.'"

And a few posts below this one, you wrote:

"I will recommend not installing it and waiting for the first service pack."

You should be hating your blog right about now then...

SP1 and SP2 didn't really add THAT much into Windows XP. It was mostly security patches and whatnot. But the different OS X versions might as well be considered new OS versions because of all the cool shit they managed to build within each new version.

There's no way that Microsoft could pull off what Apple did with OS X.

Heh, well, I can send and recieve email just like anyone else. At least I'm not a sucker and paying hundreds of dollars for Microsoft Outlook to be able to send and recieve email.

Which makes me pretty damn smart for saving money like that. ;)

Yes, because I'm the only one that's giving real criticism for Windows Vista.

I don't play Halo anymore, and I've never played Halo 2. You just don't know what OpenBSD can do, and you mock it like all it can do is add numbers together. Which is sad.

There's nothing convincing about Windows Vista anyways. Ooohhh, so there's a Media Center, and *gasp* shitty Voice Recognition! Wow! Ugh.

It's always good to know your next OS is going to ship with shit you don't care about and use up all your resources for it. Thanks, Microsoft.

I love 100% CPU usage from my OS! *walks away in disgust*

Getting rid of bloat in the OS does mean you have to get rid of all the features. Sure, you might have to cut a feature or two from it, but what I mean is to re-work the code and strip away everything that makes it bloated. Why should feature X use 75% CPU power and 40% of RAM when it can use much less?

And about system resources, my BSD machine is currenly using 8MB of the available 192MB of RAM. My BSD box can do anything and everything Windows can do. Now tell me again why I need 1GB of RAM to use Vista properly.

You know, you can keep this up all day, but the people that know their shit are going to keep blasting Vista for good reason. It sucks.

That's why Mac OS X 10.5 will be out soon. Think of all the different versions of OS X that have come out while Microsoft can't get Vista right.

And about needing a more powerful computer to run Vista...why? Why does an Operating System need to use so many damn resources? Why? Answer that.

Example (making the quote up)

"The wii is great. It's lots of fun to play."

Wow, that Nintendo exec sure did convince me. I'm glad I don't have to find out for myself if it's true or not.

That's why I like E3 like it is, because you can go and demo the new games and hardware for yourself. You know, objectively, not what some CEO tells you. And if I couldn't go, I trust a non-biased company like GameSpot to report back to me their honest thoughts on the games/hardware, and give me lots of videos showing me how it works.

in Big conferences are dead… on Scobleizer
Because we all know that a blog from a CEO is much more compelling than actually getting to play the games or see the new hardware in person. Soon, the internet will be embeded into our brains and speeches from CEOs will be downloaded into our brains at night while we sleep.

It's been 5 years since Microsoft started working on Vista. And it's STILL not finished, and probably won't be for a long time. WTF?

Here's to hoping for Duke Nukem Forever on my Vista PC. :)

Still, I could care less about class. Not everyone has a powerful GPU in their computer. My ATI Radeon 320M IGP isn't powerful enough to run Glass, and that's pathetic. I know it's not a powerful chipset, but I was able to play and beat Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 on that chipset.

I don't understand why "everyone else" wants shit. Maybe it's because they're to stupid to understand it's shit.

Windows Vista is the wrong direction for Microsoft. Instead of putting in MORE bloat, they need to seriously re-work Windows, and make it lean and mean. Make it faster. Take out the bloat. Make it able to run with speed.

Microsoft thinks that by added a resource-intensive glass theme, and by trying to overlay more crap on top of Windows, that they're making it better. Actually, they're making it much worse.

For example, I'm contstantly trying to cut down on bloat. I'll take a lightweight app more times over than some powerful, popular app. I use Pine (inside cygwin on my Windows machine) for my email. It's fast as hell, and you wouldn't beliving how this sucker flies, even on my shitty Pentium 3 1GHz (my nice laptop needs a new HD).

Point is, it's time to start actually WORKING on the next version of Windows. I don't want more damn bloat, I want a lightweight, fast, stable OS.

in Why Ozzie doesn’t think the Web is the be all and end all on Scobleizer
It's $400 dolllars for the Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Edition.

OpenOffice, AbiWord, Pine, Thunderbird, etc...FREE

That's $400 I don't have to spend. So that's one big reason why I hate Outlook, because of that fact.

Pine deals with email. I'm not sure what kind of email YOU send.

What, is Plain Text too hard for you to grasp? ;)
