in Police hunting for armed man on Daily News of Newburyport
I was in the ICS school (I am a student) when we were told that there had to be a lockdown procedure. We were soooo scared. We had to sit in the corner (All 30 of us) of our room with lights off, shades closed, and doors locked. All we were told was there was a man with a gun on the loose. It was probably nothing but lookout.

I just picked up my son from ICS, He said the same thing...they had to turn off lights, close the shades and sit away from the windows near the chalk board...younger grade though I am assuming...They were not told anything (in fact he asked when he got in the car...whay was I so late in picking him up) he was told to sit quietly, and then they played a game!

uhhh, sorry, but bands like TV on the Radio, The Walkmen, Rilo Kiley, and Of Montreal are FAR from "independent" considering they are on pretty big labels that are either owned by major labels or pose as independent labels. All these bands make quite a bit of money and have a ton of people working for them that do all their booking and probably wipe their asses for them too. So equating them to "independent" or "DIY" is just plain wrong. Not to mention they are all heavily promoted by the corporate giant, Urban Outfitters, especially TV on the Radio.....not very DIY there, sorry.
And everyone knows that the Republic, the bands that play there, and all the people who go there are just fucking cheesy and if you're defending this shit, then you're probably a cheesy fuck yourself.

Republic New Orleans
INDIE VS INDEPENDENT
The word indie is a major point of confusion, because it is often used to describe two very different ideas: the first is being independent from a major label (independent) –and- the second is having an indie sound and/or approach to making music (indie). The bands (and their labels) that the previous writer noted as having played Republic are TV on the Radio (DGC), The Walkmen (Gigantic), Rilo Kiley (Saddle Creek, Team Love, SubPop, Barsuk and WB), and Of Montreal (Kindercore and Polyvinyl). These are all indie bands, and, with the exception of Rilo’s recent move to WB and DGC’s affiliation with Interscope, all of these artists are signed to truly independent labels. In fact, these artists’ past and present labels are known for being progressive and artist-oriented. It is my opinion that there is nothing wrong with having a team of people working to expose your music or to make money from your music, and these activities don’t make an artist a sell-out, mainstream, or un-indie. It just allows their music to be heard and for the band to make a living doing what they love.
REPUBLIC
Republic books almost exclusively indie bands. As noted above, some touring artists are signed to labels, but all have an indie mindset and are considered by most to be indie. In addition to dozens of touring indie bands, Republic also books scores of local, unsigned indie bands each year including The City Life, Rotary Downs, MyNameIsJohnMichael, Glasgow!, Antenna Inn, The Revivalists, Big Rock Candy Mountain… These artists are pure indie.
DIY
The bands that the previous writer noted as having played Republic may not have a DIY approach now that they’re signed, but this writer is confident that they used DIY methods to get to where they are today. As a side note, the New Orleans Indie Rock Collective and the bands that played NOLA INDIE ROCK FEST take a Do-It-Yourself approach, because they don’t have the team of industry professional or resources to do it any other way.
CHEESE
I admit that some people that go to Republic on our dance club nights can be pretty cheesy, but these cheesy people rarely come to Throwback night and never to our live shows. On a personal note, the only thing worse than cheesy people are the super-elitists that think they’re better than them…..that’s so not indie.
